Chapter 451: Chapter 448 Conversations about the Matter from All Sides
In fact, it wasn’t just the Investigation Bureau that rushed to the office building.
Faced with such a bad influence from a serious incident, the other more important official forces in Spring City also immediately sent people to support, arriving in place within just three minutes after the Investigation Bureau.
Among them were two senior clergy from the church, senior officials from the police department, and a specially appointed military officer directly from the city defense force.
The clergy and police department were one thing, being the most common maintainers of order in the city, and also forces that Ronald often dealt with. However, the appearance of the last force instantly gave him a sense of crisis.
Ronald had never imagined
that the person sent by the military to handle this matter would be an old acquaintance of his.
— Patricia!
Ronald certainly knew about the close relationship between the Nicholas family and the military, but meeting Patricia here tonight still exceeded all his expectations.
Patricia was truly straightforward.
No sooner had she arrived, she immediately fixed her serious gaze on Ronald... and on Isa accompanying him.
Residing in Spring City as well, Patricia naturally kept track of Ronald’s movements during this time, and this new apprentice Miss Philis whom Ronald had taken in...
It was only upon meeting her today that she realized just how pitiful yet charming the girl from the rumors was. Confronted with a girl who possessed both a perfect figure and beautiful looks, one couldn’t help but empathize; any man would probably find it difficult to refuse having such a girl work under him.
Not to mention she was an apprentice!
Under the influence of their innate roles, a master could almost have his apprentice do whatever he wished, and this was simply a temptation delivered to the doorstep!
While Patricia was appraising Isa, Ronald on the other side was genuinely flustered.
He didn’t consider himself adept at fine time management, nor was he a master of handling personal emotions with management science. Engaging in conversation with Patricia under these circumstances was truly challenging for him!
Noticing the current state of the two, Isa smiled without a care.
She even playfully nudged Ronald on his waist with her elbow:
"Hey, Ronald, she’s looking at us."
"..."
After giving Isa a sharp glance, Ronald quickly got his thoughts in order, and then started yelling to attract everyone’s attention:
"Ladies and gentlemen, Philis and I were the first to arrive here!"
"Regarding everything that happened in this office building, we have witnessed it all from start to finish. To ensure the accuracy of information concerning this incident, I will now give you a detailed description of our earlier encounter..."
Ronald confidently recounted his and Isa’s experience, interweaving some of his own conjectures about the event. However, when the topic reached ’no cult magicians were found in the office building, could there be some issues with the ritual?’,
a priest standing by spoke up in a reminding tone:
"Mr. Ronald, we understand the reasons for your and Miss Philis’s actions. But to say that no one presided over the ritual is a bit odd. Surely there can’t be a grimoire within this building that we haven’t discovered yet, can there?"
The priest’s meaning was quite clear in his words.
He believed in what Ronald had previously stated, but based on his knowledge of various mysterious arts, he thought it inconceivable for a ritual spell to take place without anyone officiating.
And he even considered other possibilities.
What if these delusional cult magicians activated the ritual using their own grimoire?
If this speculation matched the actual situation, then could it be that Ronald and Isa, who arrived here first, had already secured the grimoire for themselves, which is why they now concocted such an absurd outcome?
The question was sharp, yet it adhered closely to common sense.
When the priest voiced this suspicion, there was a suggestive undertone in his words, indicating he didn’t believe Ronald’s answer was reliable.
Unfortunately, that was the truth.
Faced with such a question, Ronald could only manage a wry smile as he tried to come up with an explanation.
However, as he was organizing his thoughts, something unexpected happened. Another investigator, aside from Isa and also part of the discussion panel, suddenly spoke up:
"Priest Kampa, I’ve had the lie-detecting spell activated the entire time, and everything Mr. Ronald has said so far is true."
With those words, the air in the room turned three degrees colder in an instant.
Given their professional responsibilities, it was certain that a investigator would not jest or show bias in this matter.
So could it be that the cult magicians had mastered some new type of spellcraft?
Or perhaps right under their feet lay a powerful grimoire unnoticed by all— an evil spellbook belonging to those cult magicians!
"..."
"Anyway, discussing this further is futile."
In the midst of the complex atmosphere, the youngest of the three investigators, Eileen, spoke up. She let out a slight sigh and pointed to the ceiling:
"Father Kampa, please take these unfortunate common folks back for healing first. As for the follow-up investigation concerning the cult magicians, let’s stick to the usual procedure and leave it to us."
"I respect your opinion."
Seeing how the investigator set the tone for this matter in just a few words.
The priest didn’t say anything further and left with his people, ready to go and aid the unlucky commons.
Watching the two priests leave side by side, Patricia, who had been silent until then, took a small step forward:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the Knight Commander has informed me that this place requires significant military support. If there’s anything you need me to do, please just ask."
As soon as Patricia finished speaking, Eileen immediately responded:
"Miss Nicholas, our investigation into this matter isn’t over yet, and the details..."
Patricia had no interest in listening to Eileen’s polite evasions any longer and interrupted her:
"If that’s the case, we still have our duty to ensure the safety of Spring City. Let’s first eliminate the other strongholds the cult magicians have in the city. The pursuit of them latter can be left to the investigation bureau. That shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
Faced with Patricia’s decisively strong statement.
Eileen and the previously speaking investigator said nothing.
After a few seconds, the oldest of the three investigators finally responded to Patricia:
"Miss Nicholas, of course, there’s no problem at all. Please have faith in the investigative bureau’s capabilities."
"However, considering the suddenness of the incident, we should have a proper plan of action. I will arrange the tasks for everyone, which I trust you can understand."
Patricia gazed intently at the investigator for a few seconds.
Then she nodded seriously:
"To protect the innocent civilians of the city."
"Go ahead."
