Chapter 444: Chapter 441: Heaven Knows What They’re Thinking
Ronald was in the basement, comforting Sir Philips.
It took less than five minutes for the servant who had gone to inform Elaine at the main banquet to return here, with Elaine and Heloise naturally following him.
They had just walked into this dark basement filled with laughter.
Almost simultaneously, Elaine and Heloise wrinkled their noses, a hint of caution flashing in their eyes.
Seeing the expressions of the two girls, Ronald naturally got up and approached, "Elaine, we had found previously that these guys were still holding a cult ceremony, and it wasn’t small in scale. The investigator who was in charge here has gone to notify others. He left a message asking you to interrogate these people."
"Um-hmm," said Elaine, nodding her head with a composed expression.
While Heloise leaned in to whisper to Ronald, the young investigator walked straight to the laughing cult magician, extending her hand to grab his chin.
Crack—
The laughter stopped abruptly.
Inside the cold and silent basement, a few people with better hearing all heard the sound of bone breaking, and that could only have been the cult magician whose chin Elaine had just seized.
Now that his chin was crushed, was interrogation still possible?
Just as Ronald was considering this, Elaine started to employ even more brutal methods.
The young and beautiful investigator-girl had taken on the task of interrogation.
But she had no intention of questioning him, not at all.
After crushing the cult magician’s chin with her left hand, her free right hand swung in a great arc and slapped the face of the man in her grasp.
Slap!
The next second.
A crisp and loud slap sounded on the cult magician’s face.
Ronald clearly saw several teeth flying out of the man’s mouth, his cheek swelling immediately, to the extent that even his jaw completely sagged.
Less than five seconds into the meeting, Elaine had started with a series of vicious actions.
It was utterly impossible to discern any intention of interrogation from her.
Caught in such abrupt savagery, the other bound cult magicians were also left stunned.
They naturally knew how ruthless an investigator could be toward them.
But to resort to such measures without even conducting an intelligence interrogation—was the investigator planning to kill them outright?
However, in the moment that everyone was dumbstruck,
Elaine, still dragging the cult magician in front of her, revealed a satisfied look in her eyes.
Then, as if throwing away trash, she tossed the man aside and turned to pull another cult magician forward.
"What... what are you doing?" Faced with such a situation, the cult magician shrank back almost instinctively.
And it was this movement that caused Elaine to flash a triumphant smile.
"It’s you."
As her words fell, Magic Power unknowingly began to coil around her hand.
The moment she grabbed the cult magician, the prepared Spell on her palm gripped his face and took effect immediately.
Emotion and the effectiveness of the Spell influenced each other.
The cult magician, who had previously managed a commanding expression, gradually became expressionless.
After about five or six breaths passed, saliva uncontrollably dribbled from the corners of his mouth, clearly losing his senses.
"Uh..."
Bang—
Seeing that her Spell had fully taken effect, Elaine did not cease her actions.
She shifted her gaze to the last conscious cult magician’s face, pointed her toes, and delivered a whip kick. Only after seeing that he too had lost consciousness did Elaine turn to look over at Ronald.
"It’s about time; we can begin the interrogation."
"You... please continue..." Ronald appeared somewhat dazed, lifting his hand to gesture for Eileen to proceed.
Eileen was presumably not in this situation for the first time.
She nodded quietly, and the girl turned around and began to inquire:
"Speak, divulge your plans regarding this ritual."
"..."
The cult magician maintained a blank expression.
But under the influence of the spell, he still discerned the meaning of Eileen’s words and began to answer in a hazy tone:
"In order to save the vast ignorant populace, the Red Robe commanded us to operate in fifteen separate teams and conduct the summoning of the Swollen Demon at predetermined locations, to prepare the food of redemption for everyone."
Eileen’s gaze sharpened:
"The Swollen Demon... the food of redemption..."
"Explain the origins of these two entities."
The cult magician continued to answer honestly:
"The Swollen Demon is a servant from the higher realms, born from a flesh-mixing ritual. It will cook food with its own flesh and use an Illusion Technique to control people nearby to spread it and will eventually self-destruct during the cooking process; the food of redemption is prepared by the Swollen Demon, a special offering that is free of Magic Power, looks normal and is delicious. Anyone who consumes this food will be marked by a great existence as a believer eligible for redemption."
Upon hearing this, Eileen fell silent for a few seconds before exhaling:
"Huff..."
"Alright, now tell me the designated locations for your rituals."
The cult magician immediately responded:
"In the White Star District at Lorbo Mansion, at the cafeteria of Wil University in the Riverside District, at the Berlent family’s house at number 24 Oyer Street in the Organ District, and on Stinky Shoe Road in the Border Forest District..."
One location after another was recited by the cult magician.
Eileen took out paper and pen and noted each one.
After the last name had been mentioned, she stood up straight, satisfied, then looked towards Sir Philips, who was still seated on the chair:
"Sir Philips, I have finished asking my main questions. Do you have anything you’d like to ask?"
"I... I trust the authority of the Investigation Bureau." Philips opened his mouth, intending to say something. But he stopped his original speech midway and gave a wry smile instead, "The banquet upstairs still requires my hosting, after all. I’ll leave the matters here to Miss Eileen."
After finishing his statement, the emerging noble of influence turned his head and left the basement.
In his departing silhouette, it was clear he no longer had any curiosity about this place.
Watching Sir Philips depart,
Ronald also understood the choices that the emerging noble had made. Aside from feeling contemplative, he approached Eileen:
"Eileen, didn’t this guy also mention someone in a Red Robe giving orders? Aren’t you going to ask about that?"
Hearing the question, the young investigator girl showed a hint of helplessness on her face.
"Mr. Ronald, that’s what you don’t know."
"These cult magicians have always been as leaky as a sieve when it comes to the confidentiality of their plans, but strangely protective when it comes to certain key figures. Don’t believe me? Watch..."
As she spoke, she turned her head and asked the cult magician:
"Hey, tell us about your Red Robe."
"..."
"Uhh... Ahhh!"
The cult magician, previously expressionless, suddenly stiffened.
Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly spat up blood and collapsed to the ground, lifeless.
Pointing at the cult magician who seemed unlikely to survive, Eileen curled her lip:
"Look at that."
"Who knows what goes on in the minds of these cult magicians?"
