Chapter 433: Chapter 430: The True Ability of Hailbeth
Ronald didn’t think much of anything else.
As he watched the enemy rapidly approaching them, his fingers gently rubbed to activate the power of the "Divine Comedy."
The spell was successfully activated.
Just then, around this ’giant’, a massive piece of the ruins’ debris rose into the air, targeting the creature’s head and smashing towards it.
Bang!
It was a rather deep sound.
Faced with the unexpected impact on its face from the architectural remains, the faceless giant didn’t have time to react and was severely tilted by the blow.
Its center of gravity shifted, and the massive body knelt halfway to the ground.
But then, new changes began to appear on the giant.
Waves rippled across what was once a smooth head that showed no wrinkles, and human-like features began to emerge, indicating that the giant planned to add something to its own face.
But... this time, its appearance was not that of the old man it had been before.
Instead, it was the likeness of a woman!
After a few seconds of transformation, the appearance on the head finally stabilized. Ronald was very certain that it was the same as that of Halberd, the mermaid beside him!
"..."
Even Ronald’s temporary companion could recognize it.
As the one who had worn this visage for so many years, Halberd obviously couldn’t contain herself.
The mermaid’s face turned even uglier.
Her gaze locked onto the giant mimicking her own appearance; without turning back, she said to Ronald in a voice so cold it trembled:
"Wuling man, why don’t you pick up a weapon from behind to use? The spell you used earlier doesn’t seem suitable for this thing, does it?"
Ronald understood the implication behind Halberd’s words.
On the surface, it seemed the mermaid meant that there were plenty of human corpses in the altar behind them, many of whom held weapons. Now was a good time for Ronald to pick one up to use.
But in reality, Halberd was preparing to use something that shouldn’t be seen by others.
She had given him a temporary excuse to leave because she didn’t want Ronald to witness it.
Turning to walk back as he spoke, Ronald asked:
"You’ll be alright on your own, right? How long can you hold out?"
"One minute, one minute according to your human time."
"..."
Stepping back into the altar they had just left, Ronald glanced around.
Because death had come so suddenly, the bodies on the ground were arranged neatly, still in the positions they held during their ritual. Given that these people were responsible for the disaster with the typhoon and on the island, Ronald certainly had no intention of respecting their legacy.
He approached the circle inside the altar.
After contemplating for a moment, he picked up a simple single-handed sword from beside a middle-aged man. Drawing the blade from its sheath, he could see simple patterns etched upon it, within which stable and calm magic power hid.
Testing it the way he knew how,
Ronald immediately understood it was a mystical weapon that enhanced the strength and sharpness of the blade, with the most straightforward function—resulting in considerable spell compatibility.
If the wielder had any other spells, wanting to temporarily imbue them into the blade was almost assured without the worry of spell rejection.
"Not bad at all..."
Rumble—
Just as Ronald assessed the weapon in his hand, a huge surge of water erupted outside the altar he had left behind, and the floor beneath him shook violently. This commotion seemed as if a flood had suddenly burst into the underground ruins!
He had just taken a minute to distract himself...
What earth-shattering thing had Hailbes taken out?
Equipped with "Bradshaw’s Railway Guide," Ronald’s sense of time was absolutely accurate. He chose the perfect moment and walked out of the altar with a sword in one hand.
It turned out that Ronald’s hearing was fine.
The ruins space beneath the island, which had just been a picture of dilapidation and antiquity, was now completely submerged by a flood that had come from who knows where in that one minute.
The altar where Ronald now stood.
It was spared by the flood because it was located centrally at the highest altitude.
He looked around blankly, and all he saw was the raging torrents of water in a constant frenzy, the giants that had been running toward them now being tossed about in the wild currents like helpless fishing boats faced with storms at sea.
As for Hailbes, the origin of all this.
The mermaid lady stood calmly on the water, her hands empty and raised in front of her, concentrating magic power around her body.
For Ronald, this scene was acceptable.
Even taking Ronald himself as an example, a fully unleashed "Divine Comedy" also had the attack range to assault and capture strongholds.
But there was just one thing that he couldn’t understand at all.
Despite Hailbes brewing a spell, the water currents raging in the island ruins had no trace of magic power, as if they were naturally formed!
What kind of joke was this?
The ruins were brightly illuminated by the white mist above, but within his field of view, there was no sign of destruction anywhere that connected to the open sea. Even if taking a step back, the volume of sea water that rushed in in just one minute shouldn’t have been possible.
What kind of means did Hailbes use
to create such a scale of miracle within a single minute!
Just as Ronald was completely puzzled, and even his thoughts were beginning to grow bizarre, the spell-casting Hailbes spoke:
"Man from Wuling, do you have any more aggressive spells?"
Hearing this, Ronald immediately pointed to the giant still in the water:
"Do you want me to attack it?"
"Correct," Hailbes nodded succinctly, and then continued to explain, "I will control the seawater so that it can’t resist at all, but it’s impossible to kill it completely in a short time. I will now use the spell to suppress it completely; you should have no problem dealing with it, right?"
Hearing this, Ronald looked at the one-handed sword he was holding.
It seemed very timely.
He had just picked a weapon that suited him well, and now there was a use for it. He hesitated to act when facing Krakens, giant sea monsters tens of meters in length, but dealing with a twenty-something meter giant was no problem for him.
With a serious gaze fixed on Hailbes, Ronald nodded in response:
"I certainly have no problem; leave this to me."
"Good."
Hearing Ronald’s promise, Hailbes’s attitude was very straightforward.
She suddenly stirred with her raised hands, and the accumulated magic power merged into the seawater with her movements.
Subsequently, seawater spiraled upward, obeying Hailbes’s motion, and formed a whirlpool that completely engulfed the giant and lifted it into the air.
Watching the giant, who had nowhere to leverage and could only struggle in vain against the water and the air,
Ronald nodded slightly, then rubbed his fingers on the ring.
"To think it’s laughable to trap one’s adversary with a maze personally forged by its designer!
I have the vast sky to take me to any place I desire.
..."
