Mystic Overlord: Reading Gives Strength
Chapter 336 - 335 Prelude

Chapter 336: Chapter 335 Prelude

Early the next morning.

Ronald left a portion of Moore’s body as samples hidden in the house, then packed the rest into a box before heading alone to the headquarters of the investigation bureau located in the power company.

As one might expect, the investigation bureau reacted as it should.

Given the situation of Ronald, a holder of the "Divine Comedy," personally visiting.

The investigator in charge cautiously inquired about various pieces of information and performed a very detailed examination of Moore’s body in front of Ronald, informing him of the corresponding results.

But then...

Things became somewhat delicate.

As a holder of the "Divine Comedy," Ronald indeed had a significant presence and could produce good effects in whatever action he undertook.

Even so, the investigation bureau could not be entirely unreserved with Ronald.

Just as real-life police capturing a major criminal wouldn’t just randomly pull a few people from a local martial arts gym to secure the scene due to a manpower shortage.

It related to serious issues concerning information secrecy and power dominance.

—And the result this situation led to.

—Was the response given to Ronald by the investigation bureau.

—It wasn’t convenient to inform him of specific details.

...

It was within expectations.

Ronald understood their behavior very well, so he merely invited the bureau’s people to his house that evening.

He then returned alone to his rented apartment.

Ronald first went to the balcony to draw the curtains, thoroughly cleaned up the messy house, and then leisurely took out some of the manuscript papers he had sorted the night before.

Having leisure time to plan on paper facilitated thinking.

Facing the enemy who had abducted Lumielle directly from his house the previous night.

That holder’s actions didn’t differ much from Ronald’s initial hostility toward the "Nine Commandments."

The conflict between the two sides had now escalated to a point where it was completely irreconcilable.

The consideration now was how to act.

To deal with the holder of the "Nine Commandments."

Rash actions were undoubtedly unadvisable.

Not to mention that the enemy could find his house on the same night he took Lumielle away...

There was a good chance the enemy was still monitoring him from somewhere.

They simply hadn’t made their move because of some reason.

Himself exposed, the enemy hidden.

This situation was quite troublesome.

As he pondered, Ronald quietly recited lines from "Divine Comedy":

"Its name is Styx.

The dark waters flow downward, streaming to the dim and rugged cliffs below.

..."

As the ability to detect emotions spread out.

Ronald’s movements froze in place.

Because in the independent washroom on the other side of his bedroom, there was unexpectedly someone’s emotional disturbance!

"..."

People from the "Nine Commandments"...

Had they become daring enough to infiltrate his own home?

While astonished, Ronald continued to control his spell.

The black mist he had summoned silently spread out, quickly engulfing the location of the washroom.

Then, a familiar female voice came from the direction of his bedroom:

"Wait, Ronald, wait!"

"It’s me! It’s me!"

"..."

Hearing that voice, the black mist Ronald had just summoned instantly slackened, then slowly crawled on the ground and returned in front of Ronald.

With an expression that seemed to say he didn’t know what to say,

Ronald finally turned toward the bedroom and asked,

"Hey... Thor, why are you here?"

"And you didn’t even bother to let me know in advance?"

"I came because I heard about what happened here last night."

In response to Ronald’s inquiry, wearing Thor’s appearance, Heloise came out from the bedroom. She first glanced at the balcony that blocked the sunlight and then walked up to Ronald generously:

"It’s reasonable to check on a friend who was suddenly attacked, right?"

"Reasonable..."

Ronald threw Heloise a look and then spread the papers out on the barely standing desk.

"It is reasonable indeed."

"But the speed at which you gather information is quite impressive."

With a slightly awkward smile on her face, Heloise nodded,

"You’re making fun of me, just basic professional etiquette."

While joking with Ronald, Heloise also noticed his movements. She walked around to his side of the desk, and then she saw what was on the papers.

The pages showed a part of a street map and a considerable amount of text explanation.

Almost subconsciously, the girl slowly read aloud from it:

"Considering the response speed of ’Astronomy,’ the other party probably has real-time surveillance, which suggests their possible range of activity. Including three urban areas around the riverbank and, considering the ability to cross the Wis River, so the adjacent urban area is chosen as the second focus region..."

Reading bit by bit from it, Heloise couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow:

"Ronald, I remember you aren’t some kind of weird organization’s assassin, nor a professional intelligence officer, right?"

"Just a bit of basic analysis." Ronald had no doubts about Heloise’s information-gathering skills as she managed to find him the next day, so he simply explained, "Originally, I planned to capture that guy named Lumir at my place and interrogate him."

"But last night, an original holder from the ’Nine Commandments’ went outside and snatched him away. ’Astronomy’ is a code name I gave him."

"..."

"It’s really annoying when that happens."

Listening to Ronald’s narration, Heloise also threw another question as she lamented, "So, are these writings meant to snatch that Lumir back?"

Ronald shrugged noncommittally:

"There might be more than just Lumir that I want to snatch back."

Saying this, Ronald paused for a few seconds before speaking again:

"By the way, Thor."

"I have a question to ask."

Heloise looked as usual, "What’s the question?"

Ronald continued, "After an original holder has passed the trials, besides completely mastering an original tome, is there another way to hide the tome? I mean the kind that can’t be found on their body."

"..."

Upon hearing this question, Heloise’s expression suddenly turned serious.

After a moment of thought, she quickly grasped the hidden information in Ronald’s words:

"So, after you had kidnapped that Lumir last night, you didn’t find the original tome you were looking for on her?"

—Heloise indeed guessed right.

On the way back to the mansion with Lumir yesterday, Ronald had searched her body, but found nothing.

Able to use the spells of an original tome.

Yet, unable to find the tome itself on her.

This situation was even more convenient than Ronald using original tome spells himself.

However, facing Heloise’s question, Ronald still asked one more thing:

"You even know she had an original tome?"

"Don’t underestimate my professionalism." Admitting straightforwardly, Heloise continued to explain Ronald’s earlier question, "As far as I know, it is indeed possible, though there are only a few very limited cases when it happens."

Ronald nodded slightly, "I would like to hear the details."

Picking up a pen from Ronald’s desk without hesitation, Heloise wrote on the paper while quietly elaborating,

"Besides completely controlling an original tome and wanting to hide it, there are only two methods I know of."

"Either the holder’s body itself has some characteristics, or the tome they control provides a rather special magical power. It’s said that the tome of her Majesty the Queen is of the second type..."
