Chapter 301: Chapter 300 Thor
Ronald believed that Thor was a persona Raphael often used.
Because as soon as she announced that identity, Thor immediately pulled out a heap of related setups for this persona, even listing the timing and scenario of her meeting with Ronald to prevent any potential trouble later on.
However, when she concluded the introduction, Thor’s explanation still unavoidably gave Ronald a sense of déjà vu.
"So, remember, Ronald."
"My identity is also ’Green Spot,’ a thief of considerable fame active on the Ratoya Continent. Be careful not to let it slip out in your daily life."
Leading the way, Ronald’s eyebrows involuntarily furrowed together:
"If you didn’t want me to tell, you shouldn’t have told me in the first place."
Nevertheless, Thor didn’t care at all about Ronald’s attitude.
Slipping a dagger about forty centimeters long into her trousers, she stepped forward and slapped Ronald on the shoulder, then said with a rather cocky tone:
"Doesn’t this show how close our relationship is?"
"..."
"Whatever you say."
Watching Thor, whose personality seemed to change with her appearance, Ronald really had nothing more to say.
Then, locking onto their target, the two of them started to follow along the riverbank.
After nightfall, there were still many people moving around on the streets of Springs, such that they all dared not act too conspicuously, only running on the road at a pace that seemed normal.
If one had to describe it.
It was like a group of office workers who had drunk too much after work, indulging in wild abandon on the public streets.
Although nobody would bother them, it did indeed attract attention.
Faced with such a situation, Thor scanned her surroundings and swiftly came up with an idea.
"Ronald, that kid is escaping along the Wis River, right?"
Ronald nodded, "That’s right. Got any ideas?"
After confirming this with his companion, Thor immediately pointed ahead:
"Not many people under the bridge up there."
"How about we jump down and hitch a ride?"
Following the direction Thor pointed, Ronald saw that it was a large bridge constructed over the Wis River.
According to the information he had gathered,
This bridge, known as Con Bridge, was a place used for important gatherings during parades and festivities in Springs.
However, it wasn’t typically very busy.
"No problem, let’s go."
With a clear goal in mind, Ronald and Thor quickly picked up their pace.
While the ships on the Wis River wouldn’t sail too close to the shore, typical bridges wouldn’t stop two stealthy Caster companions either.
Thus, they effortlessly hung onto the underside of Con Bridge, beneath which were the Wis River’s ships that passed by at regular intervals.
It was then that Thor, next to Ronald, released one of her hands from the bridge and patted his shoulder, pointing ahead.
"How about we take that one?"
Thor pointed to a coal barge, the most common sight on the Wis River.
Ronald readily nodded in agreement:
"No problem. But be careful, don’t lose grip with one hand and fall... Hey!"
"What are you doing?"
Ronald was about to warn Thor when her extending hand showed no sign of retracting; instead, she wrapped it around his shoulder.
Eventually, her other hand let go, and she leaned toward him, hanging onto Ronald like a koala.
After several seconds of silence, Ronald spoke up again:
"..."
"What do you mean by this?"
Hearing his question, Thor pressed her cheek against Ronald’s shoulder and said with a voice close at hand:
"A girl can’t just jump into the coal, can she? That would be way too dirty."
"So, Ronald, let me ride along, okay? I’ll get down as soon as we’re on the ship."
"Besides, haven’t you ridden on me before?"
Ronald answered straightforwardly:
"Please don’t make statements that can be misinterpreted!"
As Ronald finished speaking, Thor countered almost instantaneously:
"If you don’t refuse, I’ll take that as a yes!"
"..."
Immediately thereafter, Thor exerted strength in his limbs, clinging onto Ronald even more firmly, completely looking like he wasn’t planning to let go no matter what.
Facing such a situation and glancing at the coal ship swiftly approaching below them,
Ronald could only resign himself to the outcome:
"Don’t breathe on my neck; it tickles."
Thor cheerfully whispered in reply:
"No problem."
The minor interlude did not affect Ronald’s actions.
Focusing on the coal ship’s location, as the bow passed by them, Ronald let go with both hands and leaped forward, snapping his right fingers inconspicuously.
Puff—
Right on target, Ronald dove into the coal bunker of the ship’s cabin, and the black coal successfully concealed the white glow emanating from him.
However, during this process, Thor showed no intention of letting go.
Instead, he plunged into the coal pile along with Ronald.
A few seconds later, muffled voices emerged from the black coal:
"..."
"Ronald, you’re glowing?"
"Haven’t you seen a defensive spell before! Let go already, didn’t you say you would let go earlier?"
"I’m a girl, you know!"
"Isn’t it perfectly normal to be too scared to let go?"
"Do you think I believe that nonsense?"
"Hehe—"
Thus, having successfully hitched a ’free ride,’ Ronald and Thor had a rather leisurely pursuit experience.
Chasing along the Wis River, neither side dared to use their real skills,
so their speed was not much different from that of the coal ship, allowing them to maintain their distance from each other.
Eventually, others spotted Ronald and Thor’s tactic and began to imitate them, hitching similar ’free rides.’
But such chases always come to an end.
As night gradually fell, the pursuing group had traveled a considerable distance.
The coal ship entered the port, ready to unload its cargo.
Ronald and Thor had no choice but to leave the vessel.
Meanwhile, further ahead, the young man who had escaped with the tome hadn’t returned ashore but instead slipped onto a ship in the dock’s passenger area.
Following the indicators of their scouting ability, Ronald and Thor also arrived at this place.
This was a sizable passenger cruise ship.
Standing on the dock, they even had to look up to see the name printed on the ship’s body:
——[White Rose]
At that moment, Thor, standing by the side, slightly bowed his head and pondered:
"White Rose..."
"I remember this is a cross-ocean passenger ship; the kid is planning to leave the Latocio continent!"
Ronald also realized the other’s intention and nodded in agreement:
"That indeed is a wiser choice."
"Far from this city and continent, changing one’s identity is the best way to protect oneself."
