Chapter 145: Chapter 144 Mistletoe Manor
An hour before nightfall.
On the road where No. 29 Forest Lane is located, numerous private and rental horse-drawn carriages frequently travel to and fro, then stopping here.
At this moment, the Investigative Bureau’s celebration is underway.
Naturally, there is a continuous stream of mysterious society personages from all walks of life interacting.
Due to the natural advantages their abilities provide, they have a better chance of advancing socially than ordinary people. Thus, in order to placate these special members of the Blenheim City’s upper middle class, the Bureau chose to host this banquet.
Although it’s called a banquet, it also serves to stabilize public sentiment.
It was at that time that a very common rental carriage came slowly from a street in the southeast.
Clip-clop—
With the driver reining in the horses, the carriage came to a steady halt by the side of the road.
Quickly, a man and a woman jumped down from it.
As these two partygoers appeared, the guards and guests at the entrance of the mansion couldn’t help but turn their eyes toward them.
After all, this man and woman.
In terms of appearance and charisma, they were exceptionally striking.
The man appeared to be around 20 years old, tall and straight, with handsome features; the woman, meanwhile, radiated a vibrant energy, with beautiful looks. Standing together like this, with just a bit of simple dressing up and not even a touch of makeup, they inevitably attracted attention.
This man and woman, of course, were Ronald and Patricia, who had set out together.
Speaking of which, Patricia’s attire tonight was strikingly similar to Ronald’s.
A fitted short-sleeve jacket wrapped around her shirt for the upper body, while the lower body was dressed in smart riding breeches paired with long boots.
There were no earrings, necklaces, or rings of any kind to be seen on her person.
The young girl’s clear demeanor was equally pure and devoid of any impurities.
"Sir, here is your fee."
Turning to hand the fare to the rental carriage’s driver.
Exchanging smiles, Ronald then offered his right arm to her:
"Well, let’s go in."
"Of course."
Patricia responded and promptly took Ronald’s right arm with confident grace.
Together, they walked into the mansion on No. 29 Forest Lane.
The mansion, named after the mistletoe, first presented itself as quite expansive. Even in a high-class neighborhood like Forest Lane, it possessed staggeringly broad lands.
Upon entering, the first sight was the lawns laid out along both sides of the path. Even in the winter season, the owner of the mansion had managed to bring in grass that could maintain its greenness, neatly and thoroughly covering the extensive courtyard.
This allowed the place to offer a rather nice visual experience to guests even in the dead of winter.
Following the flat path paved with bluestone, connecting the main gate,
A serene yet majestic mansion emerged at the end of the view.
"..."
Ronald and Patricia arrived right in the midst of the entry phase. By now, the ordinary invited members of the mysterious side had mostly arrived.
Without qualifying to enter the mansion’s interior, they were interacting and conversing with each other on the outer grass.
There was indeed an atmosphere of socialization among them.
But as for truly important figures, none were to be seen here.
At least on the side of the Investigative Bureau.
Apart from the basic staff maintaining order and security, not a single official member was present.
Under these circumstances, the mysterious side personages naturally also observed the entering guests.
Ronald and Patricia,
invariably became the center of attention.
Those who had seen Ronald, and were well-informed, naturally knew of his performance outside of Blenheim City not long ago, so they understood this man was a powerful, mysterious Caster.
And those who had seen Patricia, well, there was even less need to say.
For the families that had lived here for generations, what a Nicholas meant to them was all too clear.
Thus, having barely taken a few steps, even before reaching the party area on the manor’s lawn,
on this stone corridor outside, some of the mystical community’s members who were engaged in conversations started to approach them actively.
"Miss Patricia, it is an honor to meet you,"
"Mr. Ronald, how fortunate indeed!"
"..."
Patricia displayed a very adept attitude towards these kinds of social events, whether it was a brief greeting or some utilitarian approaches, she responded to each one, while her tone remained polite and yet not lacking in elegance.
This familiar attitude was clearly a skill honed through numerous social occasions.
By contrast...
Ronald was not so successful.
Although he had had some social experiences, those were at most along the lines of everyone pooling together their annual bonuses to go on a public expense trip to Antarctica. As for such a proper occasion, he really wasn’t accustomed to it.
For instance, when someone came up and started with a sentence like: ’My family’s XXX had once in Joyce with XXX done XXX, Mr. Ronald, you are truly XXX.’
He was completely at a loss for words!
Luckily with Patricia by his side providing cover, Ronald managed not to make any blunders. But walking down this path, Ronald did manage to become a familiar face among Blenheim’s mystical community.
Perhaps it would make things easier when he had to deal with certain matters in the city in the future.
"..."
At the end of this somewhat novel journey, standing in front of the main building of the Mistletoe Manor,
Ronald looked back.
Those in attendance at the party from the mystical community weren’t dressed like the witches and wizards of fairy tales, with their peculiar and varied outfits. Instead, they had all chosen quite exquisite and lavish clothing.
If one didn’t make the announcement to the public, any ordinary person passing by would have just seen it as a gathering of high society members.
After all, they were the "seeds" that had grasped the knowledge of the mysterious side.
Beyond that veil, they were nothing more than people living their lives here.
"..."
"Ha..."
Intertwining genuine sentiments with his cordial smile, Ronald gently shook his head and then entered the mansion with Patricia.
No sooner had they passed through the porch than everything opened up before their eyes.
As a manor building capable of hosting such a large gathering, Mistletoe Manor presented a ballroom as soon as one passed the front porch, sprawling just as generously in size.
The luxurious interior decoration was omnipresent, and Ronald took a quick look around, even feeling as if he were inside a Baroque style structure.
Meanwhile, likely because tonight’s party host was the Investigation Bureau,
near the resplendent decorations inside, one could also frequently see some added animal or plant embellishments, which indeed lent the place that mystical quality it ought to have.
As for the guests who had already arrived...
Unlike the ones who could only be seen on the manor’s lawn.
Those seated here mostly looked exuding self-confidence, both men and women carrying an air of composure on their faces.
In other words,
this was the upper echelon of Blenheim’s mystical social circle.
