Chapter 458: Auremax vs Azareth

Chapter 458: Auremax vs Azareth

"What, are you threatening me now?!" Ethan narrowed his eyes, his voice sharp.

"No, no, no, not at all," the Inferno Arch Devil Azareth said with a lazy wave of his hand, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Just a friendly piece of advice, that’s all. Honestly, from our perspective, the only ones even worth targeting are those three idiots from the Light Alliance. As for you? A newly risen lord?" He chuckled darkly. "We’ve seen your kind come and go more times than I can count. Not many of them are still breathing."

He let out a mock sigh. "Such a shame, really."

BOOM!

But just then—something changed.

A heavy thud echoed through the air.

A corpse came hurtling out of nowhere, slamming into the ground and kicking up a thick cloud of dust.

Looking closer—it was the body of a 13th-Tier Legendary Unit. An Inferno Devil.

Azareth’s smile didn’t fade. He still looked amused, like he couldn’t care less. But even so, he slowly circled the fallen body, then shook his head with a hint of regret.

"Quintis, huh?"

"What a damn fool..."

As his words trailed off, he tilted his head back and looked up at the sky.

Hovering above was a massive figure, radiating a terrifying, furious magical aura. A Gold Dragon, its eyes cold and locked onto him.

There was no mistaking it.

It was Auremax.

"Gold Dragon, huh..." Azareth muttered, then smirked again. "Didn’t expect to find one this powerful here. Looks like I underestimated you all."

THUD.

At that moment, Auremax descended slowly, landing with a heavy presence. He turned to Ethan and bowed his head respectfully.

"My apologies, Master. I arrived late. But from here on out, please allow me to handle this."

He turned his gaze toward Azareth, his voice sharp and full of disdain. "This Inferno Arch Devil? He’s not even worthy of speaking to you directly."

Ethan blinked, surprised for a moment.

Then his eyes narrowed as he looked at Azareth—who, for the first time, showed a flicker of irritation in his expression.

Ethan let out a cold laugh and nodded. "Auremax, he’s all yours."

"Yes, my Lord," Auremax replied with a nod.

Then he turned fully to face Azareth, his eyes gleaming with icy fury. A terrifying surge of Draconic Force erupted from his body like a volcanic explosion, shaking the air around them.

"Inferno Devil?"

"You think you can act tough in front of my Lord? You’ll have to get through my claws first!"

BOOM!

The moment the words left his mouth, Auremax vanished in a flash of golden light, shooting straight at Azareth like a missile. Azareth reacted instantly, drawing his curved demon blade and slashing forward with brutal force.

Sparks exploded in midair as Auremax’s claws clashed with the demonic scythe. The two forces locked in a dead heat, neither side gaining ground.

But Auremax was clearly faster.

ROAR!

With a thunderous roar, he opened his jaws and unleashed a beam of multicolored magical energy—a concentrated blast of Draconic Force—straight at Azareth.

But Azareth’s body flickered, space around him warping as he teleported away in an instant.

"Oho! Damn, that’s some serious power. Too bad you can’t even—wait, what the—?!"

Azareth’s mocking voice cut off mid-sentence.

Because no one expected what happened next.

That terrifying beam of energy—somehow—also teleported. It reappeared silently behind Azareth and slammed into him with full force.

A massive explosion erupted in the sky, a mushroom cloud of magical energy swallowing everything in its path.

But Auremax frowned, his eyes narrowing. "Still didn’t hit him?"

"Scary... so scary..." Azareth’s voice echoed again—but from a completely different direction.

Even Ethan, watching from the sidelines, furrowed his brow and turned to look.

There, floating effortlessly in the air, stood Azareth once more—completely unharmed, his demonic scythe resting casually on his shoulder.

Like nothing had happened at all.

"It didn’t hit him? No... wait, looks like it did—barely." Ethan’s expression darkened as he squinted at Azareth’s back. There, faintly visible, were some scorched and cracked marks. But the damage was minimal—so minimal it was almost not worth mentioning.

"This guy’s this much trouble? No wonder Cain and the others are under so much pressure... If just an Ace Unit is this hard to kill, then what the hell happens when we’re up against a Crimson Ultimate hero?!"

Azareth was strong, no doubt about it.

But at the end of the day, he was still just an Ace Unit.

A top-tier soldier, sure—but still just a soldier.

And yet now?

Even he was this much of a pain to deal with. So what about those Crimson Ultimate-ranked Inferno Devil heroes? Just thinking about it made Ethan’s scalp tingle. He didn’t even want to imagine it.

"You’re impressive, I’ll give you that," Azareth said, eyes locked on Auremax. His face still wore that manic grin, but now there was a flicker of caution behind it. "Didn’t expect you to have evolved to the point of wielding a domain... You’re a terrifying one, aren’t you?"

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Suddenly, two more figures appeared out of thin air—two of the three 13th-Tier Legendary Ace Inferno Devils from earlier.

Drevak and Malrik.

And they looked like hell—bloodied, battered, barely standing.

"Lord Azareth, we have to go!" one of them said urgently. "There’s a Crimson Ultimate Green Dragon hero on the battlefield. None of us can take it down. If we don’t retreat now... we’re screwed!"

"Is that so?" Azareth’s eyes flickered, then he gave Auremax one last long look... before turning his gaze to Ethan.

And then—he smiled.

A slow, seductive smile.

"Think about what I said earlier. You’ll come around, won’t you? Hahahahaha... Let’s go!"

With a burst of manic laughter, the Inferno Arch Devil Azareth turned and vanished into the air.

And with him, the rest of the Infernal forces began to pull back—hundreds of 13th-Tier Inferno Devils, 14th-Tier Arch Devils, and swarms of Infernal Legions that darkened the sky like a plague of locusts.

"My Lord, should we pursue?" Auremax asked, his voice low and tense.

Ethan hesitated for a moment, then shook his head.

"No. Let them go."

If this had been the Dungeon faction, he probably would’ve ordered a full pursuit already. But this was different. With their ability to teleport at will, chasing them would be a waste of time and energy.

Better to let it go.

Besides...

If it were the Dungeon faction, they probably wouldn’t have run in the first place.

Honestly, the only ones who could force them to retreat... were themselves.

BOOM!

Suddenly, a violent gust of wind tore through the air—and in the next instant, Seraphina blinked into view, landing right in front of Ethan.

"Master, they ran!" she huffed, clearly frustrated.

"Ugh, those bastards are so damn slippery! Like rats! They just kept running and running, never fought me head-on! I’ve been chasing them forever and only managed to kill about a hundred or so... The rest all got away! So annoying!"

Yeah... she clearly hated this kind of enemy.

The kind that refused to fight her directly, always buzzing around like flies, poking and prodding and then vanishing before she could land a proper hit. It drove her nuts.

For someone like Seraphina—who had zero patience—this kind of battle was pure torture.

She’d rather get her ass kicked by a stronger opponent than deal with this kind of drawn-out, irritating fight.

Still, even with all that, she and her Green Dragon army had managed to take down nearly 200 units of 13th-Tier Inferno Devils and several 14th-Tier Arch Devils. A massive win, by any measure.

Ethan couldn’t help but laugh, half amused, half exasperated.

After a few words of comfort to Seraphina, he turned to glance at Orryn, Oakenmaw, and the others nearby.

He was just about to speak—when he froze.

Because something caught his eye.

Orryn’s evolution progress had... had actually—

[Orryn]

Race: Green Dragon

Tier: 13

Overall Rating: 13th-Tier Legendary Ace Unit (82%)

"Wait, 82%?! Am I seeing that right?" Ethan rubbed his eyes hard, stunned. "How the hell did it jump that much all of a sudden?!"

If he remembered correctly...

Not long ago, Orryn’s evolution progress was only at 75%. And now? It had shot up by 8% in such a short time?

That... shouldn’t be possible, right?!
