Chapter 407: Battle Angel

Chapter 407: Battle Angel

To be honest, Ethan thought these Dragonblade Knights really didn’t have much going on upstairs. Yeah, they were kind of brain-dead. But that actually made them easy to deal with.

All you had to do was hit them where it hurt—exploit their weaknesses.

And what were those weaknesses?

Simple.

They claimed to be the embodiment of justice and light, defenders of peace, upholders of order, the last line against the evil Devils and Black Dragons. Fine. But where was the proof?

Was it their kill count? Their battlefield achievements?

Okay, sure. Let’s go with that.

But then, what about the Emerald Castle’s record? Or more specifically—his own?

It blew theirs out of the water.

They bragged about taking down seven Dungeon Lords and Infernal Lords?

He’d killed over a dozen—and even managed to drive back a Dungeon King.

They claimed to have slain over three hundred units of Red Dragons, Shadow Dragons, Devils, and more than fifty Tier-14 Black Dragons and Inferno Arch Devils?

Well, he’d done several times that.

The numbers didn’t lie. The stats were right there for everyone to see.

Crystal clear.

And now they were accusing him of shirking responsibility? Of standing on the sidelines?

Really?

When he’d done more than any of them?

What did that make them, then? Useless dead weight?

Ethan smiled, calm and easy.

But for Dragonblade Knight Veyra—who always held herself up as a paragon of justice, a guardian of order, a champion of light and righteousness—his words hit like a slap in the face.

No—more than that. It was humiliation.

She stood there in silence for a long moment.

Then, jaw clenched, Veyra finally muttered, "I’m sorry. I misjudged you..."

"No worries," Ethan said with a casual shrug. "Happens all the time. I misjudge people too. In fact, before I came here, I was wondering... If your Castle faction is so powerful, why do you keep losing? Why are you always getting your asses handed to you?"

He tilted his head, smiling like a cat playing with a mouse.

"Maybe it’s because your so-called heroes... are just that incompetent. Don’t you think, Lady Veyra?"

His tone was light, but the words were sharp—dripping with mockery.

And yet, strictly speaking... it wasn’t even mockery.

Because the facts were right there. The numbers didn’t lie. The difference between them was obvious.

Compared to Emerald Castle, Veyra really was weak. Ineffective.

He was just stating the truth.

Maybe a little bluntly, sure—but truthfully all the same.

And Veyra? Her face had gone pale.

But she couldn’t argue back.

Her ideals—her belief in truth and light—were both her strength and her Achilles’ heel.

Because someone like her, who worshipped the light, could never deny the truth.

So now, all she could do was stay silent.

And let Ethan tear her down, one word at a time.

Seeing how things had just played out, Roland couldn’t help but let out a quiet sigh of relief—but his expression was complicated, a wry smile tugging at his lips. After all, Veyra was one of their own. Watching her get completely shut down like that... yeah, it stung a little.

And to make matters worse, Ethan’s jab about being "incompetent" hadn’t just hit Veyra—it had splashed right onto him too.

Because if Veyra’s achievements were already miles behind Ethan’s...

Then where did that leave him?

Even further behind. Practically a joke in comparison.

Did that make him even more useless? Even more of a deadweight?

But Roland wasn’t as green as Veyra. He’d been around the block a few more times, knew how to roll with the punches.

He shook his head, brushing off the sting.

No point dwelling on it.

Instead, he stepped forward and addressed Ethan with a respectful tone. "Lord Valkarion, we’re here today because Lord Cain asked us to deliver the next phase of the Castle faction’s strategy to you."

"Go ahead, I’m listening," Ethan said calmly.

Roland nodded and continued, "Lord Cain and Lord Mikael have decided to abandon the territories of the Holy Vanguard Empire, the Divine Bow Empire, and the Holy Griffon Empire. They’re pulling back all forces and consolidating around the remaining four empires—namely, the Royal Griffin Empire, the Holy Blades Empire, the Sacred Sentinel Empire, and the Divine Priest Empire. The plan is to regroup, fortify, and then look for an opportunity to counterattack."

"Wait a second..." Ethan raised a hand, cutting him off mid-sentence. His brows furrowed. "Who the hell is Mikael? And what’s this about seven empires? Are you telling me Cain’s got six other powerhouses under his command, just like the Holy Griffon Empire?"

"No, not quite," Roland said, shaking his head slowly. "Lord Cain only commands three empires: the Holy Blades Empire, the Holy Griffon Empire, and the Holy Vanguard Empire. Of those, the Holy Blades Empire is the core—it leads the other two."

"As for the other four—the Divine Bow Empire, the Divine Priest Empire, the Sacred Sentinel Empire, and the Royal Griffin Empire—those fall under Lord Mikael’s domain."

"Mikael is one of the Castle faction’s Battle Angels. He holds a high rank and is incredibly powerful—stronger than Lord Cain, in fact."

"Battle Angel, huh..." Ethan’s eyes narrowed slightly, his expression thoughtful.

He knew about those titles—Wisdom Angel, Battle Angel, Power Angel, and so on.

They were the elite Angel heroes of the Castle faction.

Each one was a Hero Unit, and their strength was on par with the King-tier powerhouses from the evil factions.

And if you were talking about Judgment Angels, Verdict Angels, or Divine Angels—those were the real heavy hitters. The top-tier Archangels. The kind of beings who could go toe-to-toe with Overlord-class enemies from the Inferno, Dungeon, or Necropolis factions.

From what he understood, titles like Battle Angel, Power Angel, and Storm Angel were all combat-specialized. Which meant their raw power and individual combat ability were likely even higher than the rest.

Thinking about that—and connecting it to the so-called "plan" Roland just laid out—it all started to click.

They wanted to throw Emerald Castle into the meat grinder.

Use them as cannon fodder.

And at the same time, force them to step out of the shadows and onto the front lines.

Ethan’s eyes glinted coldly as he asked, "What about the enemy? What kind of strength are we talking about?"

"Three King-tier enemies," Roland answered without hesitation, his face grim. "Two from the Inferno faction—Inferno Devil Baelthar and Malgrath. The third is a Dungeon King, a Red Dragon named Ashendar."

"And?" Ethan pressed, his brow tightening. "What’s their power level, specifically?"

Roland hesitated for a moment, then said slowly, "Inferno Devil Malgrath is an ancient and extremely powerful Demon King. He’s likely stronger than Lord Mikael. As for the other two..."

"Red Dragon Ashendar is probably on par with Mikael—maybe even a bit stronger."

"Inferno Devil Baelthar is a younger Demon King, so he’s a bit weaker than Mikael."

Ethan’s mouth twitched. He looked like he’d just bitten into something sour. "So what you’re telling me is... Cain—the guy you didn’t even mention in that power comparison—is actually the weakest of the bunch?"

"Watch your mouth!" Dragonblade Knight Veyra snapped, her face going pale. "You will not insult Lord Cain!"
