Chapter 398: Kaiin Thiadex
[Ebonite Colossus Hatchling Spark]
Status: Ready to Hatch
"A unique, unclaimed Ebonite Colossus Hatchling Spark has been discovered. Ignite the Spark and form a contract to recruit it?"
Hatchling Spark?
Ethan blinked, then it clicked.
This had to be something like the Green Dragon Egg—just a different name for the same kind of thing.
"Recruit!" Ethan nodded without hesitation. The moment the word left his mouth, the ground began to tremble beneath his feet.
Then, from deep within the Ebonite Colossus Foundry, a blinding surge of magical light burst forth—so intense it lit up the entire chamber. A strange rustling, cracking sound followed.
The massive, jet-black, translucent egg—
It had started to shake. Tiny fractures spiderwebbed across its surface.
"Vmmm!"
"RUMMMMMMBLE..."
As the egg continued to crack and fall apart, the fragments of its magical shell suddenly ignited—black flames licking up from the pieces. Then, as if drawn by some unseen force, the flames twisted upward into the air.
They spiraled in midair for a moment,
Then were pulled straight into something hidden within the shell’s remains...
Moments later, the black fire faded away. The egg was gone. In its place stood a small, obsidian-black figure—like a golem sculpted from living diamond.
It radiated an intense magical aura,
But not the kind that clings to the surface like armor or enchantment.
No—this power came from within. It pulsed outward from its core, just like Seraphina, Cicero, and the others—beings born with magic in their very essence.
At the same time, the little black diamond golem looked around with wide, gleaming eyes—curious, cautious, taking in the world around it... and then, it locked eyes with Ethan.
"Don’t be scared, little guy..." Ethan smiled warmly, opening his arms and scooping the creature up like he’d done it a hundred times before.
"Master, is that...?" Elynn asked, her voice tinged with awe.
"Yeah..." Ethan nodded, eyes narrowing with a grin. "Looks like we’ve got ourselves a new friend. If I’m right, this little guy’s a Hero Unit. And not just any Hero Unit—a Crimson Ultimate Hero. Isn’t that right, buddy?"
He ruffled the golem’s tiny head with a playful hand. The little creature let out a high-pitched giggle and clung tightly to Ethan’s fingers, clearly delighted.
It was already attached to him—
Like it had chosen him the moment it opened its eyes.
"Crimson Ultimate Hero?!"
The words hit like a shockwave. Not just Eldrin and Karnak,
Even Cicero raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Sure, to someone like Cicero, a Crimson Ultimate Hero wasn’t that big a deal—unless it was one of those Tier-14 Mythic Units. But still, he knew how rare they were.
This was no small thing.
To stumble across one here, of all places?
Yeah, this was a hell of a lucky break.
Meanwhile, Ethan was still studying the little black diamond golem in his arms. And as he held it, he felt something stir deep inside him—a warmth, a resonance.
A connection.
It was the same feeling he’d only ever had with Seraphina, Cicero, Elyra, and Kyros.
"Just as I thought... this must be the power of a Soulbind Contract," Ethan murmured, a smile spreading across his face.
And with that, he opened the creature’s status panel with a flick of his hand.
"Alright, little guy... let’s see what you’ve got."

Additionally, it can form dual-layered magical armor on both the surface and inner layers of its body, boosting defense by 10%–50% randomly.

Ethan stared at the little guy’s stat panel, eyes wide with disbelief.
It was like looking at a supercharged, ultra-upgraded version of Karnak.
First off—Magic Immunity, Magic Infusion, and Diamond Plating. Those three talents alone gave this little golem a defense profile that was absolutely insane.
Ethan even pulled up Oakenmaw’s stats—the Ancient War Tree, one of the most notoriously tanky units in the game—just to compare.
And the verdict?
Kaiin’s defense might actually outclass Oakenmaw’s.
"Even though both the Ebonite Colossus and the Ancient War Tree are melee-type units," Ethan murmured to himself, eyes still fixed on Kaiin’s stats, "the Ebonite Colossus is clearly built to an extreme. Its defense is so overwhelming, it practically overshadows its offense entirely..."
Back in Emerald Castle, the Ancient War Tree clan had always been the go-to tanks—the frontline defenders. And that made perfect sense. Just think about the lineup of their Tier-13 Legendary Units:
Behemoth.
Kirin.
Gem Dragon.
Green Dragon.
Ancient War Tree.
Behemoth? That one was easy.
They were pure berserkers—born to brawl, live to fight. Defense? Not even in their vocabulary. They were all about raw, unfiltered aggression. You didn’t send a Behemoth to hold the line—you sent it to break one.
Kirin and Green Dragons? Sure, they were warriors too, but they leaned more toward hybrid roles—melee and magic combined. They could hold their own in close combat, and they could sling spells when needed. Defense-wise? Passable, maybe. But it was never their strong suit.
Their entire skill set leaned heavily toward offense.
Then there were the Gem Dragons. Now, those guys had decent defense, no doubt. But using them as tanks? That would be a total waste. Among the five Legendary Units, Gem Dragons were hands-down the most well-rounded, the most powerful overall. You didn’t stick them in the front to soak hits—you used them where it counted most. Precision. Power. Strategy.
And honestly?
Even with their solid defense, they still didn’t quite match up to the Ancient War Trees.
Which is exactly why the Ancient War Tree clan had naturally taken on the role of frontline tanks in Emerald Castle. It was just the logical fit.
But now?
Looking at Kaiin...
That role might not be theirs for much longer.
Because the Ebonite Colossus?
Its defensive capabilities were on a whole other level.
