Chapter 394: Magic Charge
Chapter 394: Magic Charge
Even though Auremax is insanely powerful, there’s no way he should be able to one-shot a 13-Tier Legendary Unit just by messing around.
But that’s exactly what happened.
That earlier attack? Yeah, Auremax was just playing around.
Or more accurately—he was holding back.
He probably didn’t even use 30 to 40 percent of his usual strength.
And yet, he still managed to instantly obliterate those weird-looking Diamond Golems...
Which could only mean one thing.
Those strange Diamond Golems?
They weren’t actually 13-Tier Legendary Units.
At best, they were probably some kind of rare, hidden 12-Tier Royal Unit.
Once that clicked, Ethan just waved his hand and gave the order. "Gold Dragon army, team up with Auremax and take that Creature Dwelling!"
"ROAR!"
"ROAR!"
"ROAR!"
...
"Yes, my great and glorious Lord!"
The Gold Dragon army surged forward, and in no time at all, alongside Auremax, they took down the Creature Dwelling with ease. And right then, a system notification chimed in Ethan’s ear.
"Congratulations, player Valkarion, you’ve discovered a 12-Tier Royal Unit Creature Dwelling — Ebonite Diamond Golem Foundry! Would you like to claim it?"
"Claim it!" Ethan didn’t hesitate for a second.
Ding!
"Congratulations, player Valkarion, you’ve successfully claimed the Ebonite Diamond Golem Foundry!"
[Ebonite Diamond Golem Foundry]
Allows you to contract and recruit 12-Tier Ebonite Diamond Golems.
Recruitable Units: 1/0
Note: Each unit requires 2 Diamond Golems and 100 units of Ebonite Crystal.
Recruitment Date: 1st of each calendar month
Recruitment Cost: ...
"Ebonite Diamond Golem, huh?" Ethan muttered, eyeing the name of the new unit. Then he immediately hit the recruit button.
"Recruit!"
The available unit count at the Foundry instantly dropped to zero. And right then, a massive figure appeared before Ethan—an Ebonite Diamond Golem, its entire body practically encrusted with shimmering Ebonite Crystals.
[Ebonite Diamond Golem]
Tier: 12
HP: 10,000
Attack: 98
Defense: 101
Damage: 174–253
Magic Damage: ...
Innate Abilities:
Magic Resistance – 95% resistance to Tier 1–3 magic, 65% to Tier 4, and 15% to Tier 5.
Sluggish – Moves slowly.
Magic Charge – The Ebonite Diamond Golem is infused with a massive amount of Ebonite Crystals. These crystals allow it to temporarily channel and amplify magical energy through a process known as Magic Charge.
Three innate abilities. Ethan immediately dismissed the first two—they were pretty much the same as a regular Diamond Golem.
But that third one—Magic Charge?
Now that was something special.
"Use Magic Charge on that spot!" Ethan ordered sharply.
"Yes, my Lord!" the Ebonite Diamond Golem responded with a nod. It turned, raised its massive fist, and slammed it hard into the sheer cliff wall of the deep abyss canyon.
At that exact moment, Ethan, Seraphina, Auremax, and the others all saw it—or rather, felt it.
The instant the Golem’s fist struck, streams of magical energy surged out from the Ebonite Crystals embedded in its body, flaring to life and fusing directly into the attack.
BOOOOOOMMMMM—
The impact was thunderous. The sheer force of the blow blasted a massive crater into the cliffside, sending chunks of rock flying and dust billowing into the air.
But instead of celebrating, Ethan, Cicero, Auremax, Eldrin, and the rest fell silent.
Their eyes flickered with thought.
Each of them clearly deep in contemplation.
Then, after a moment, Ethan broke the silence. He turned to the Ebonite Diamond Golem and asked, "Do you know how you were created?"
The Golem paused, then answered in its deep, mechanical voice, "Apologies, my Lord. I do not know..."
No answer. Just as Ethan expected.
That was the nature of Metal Golems. They didn’t have souls. They weren’t truly sentient beings. Their intelligence, their way of thinking—it was all artificial, programmed into them.
In the end, they were just machines.
Robots, really.
Not even close to being alive.
And that came with its own pros and cons.
The upside? Absolute loyalty. No fear of death.
They fight only for you.
The downside? Well... moments like this.
When they’re just a little too damn dumb.
As for the other constructs—those Arcane Beings and Arcane Engines—well, they were a different story. The Arcane Beings had souls, and their intelligence was off the charts. The Arcane Engines, on the other hand, were somewhere in between Metal Golems and Arcane Beings.
But they still didn’t have souls.
That said, if one day, a Metal Golem or an Arcane Engine were to somehow develop a soul of its own... then from that moment on, it would be considered a true living being.
And more than that—it would qualify to become a Hero Unit.
"Let’s keep looking," Ethan said, shaking his head. "If one Creature Dwelling survived, there’s no way it’s the only one left in this place."
"Yes, Master!"
"Yes, my Lord!"
...
With that, the group split up again, fanning out to search the area.
Only Cicero and Elynn stayed behind with Ethan.
"Cicero," Ethan said suddenly, glancing at the towering golem nearby. "What do you think of this Ebonite Diamond Golem?"
"I... honestly?" Cicero hesitated, then spoke bluntly. "It feels like a failed prototype."
"A failed prototype?" Ethan’s eyes narrowed slightly, though he didn’t look surprised. Truth be told, he’d been thinking the same thing.
"Yeah..." Cicero nodded slowly. "It’s like someone just slapped a bunch of Ebonite Crystals onto a regular Diamond Golem. It’s crude. And honestly? It doesn’t really add much."
"Exactly," Ethan agreed with a sigh. "Strictly speaking, there’s not much difference between this and a standard Diamond Golem. Sure, it’s got that Magic Charge ability, but it costs more than twice the resources to make. It’s just not worth it. Two regular Diamond Golems would be way more effective than one of these."
"But," Cicero added, his eyes gleaming with thought, "I think this might be a stepping stone. A concept. Right now, the Ebonite Diamond Golem feels more like a rough combination than a true fusion. But if someone could fully integrate the power and properties of Ebonite Crystals into the core design of a Diamond Golem... then yeah, I think it’s possible. They might’ve been trying to create a new 13-Tier Legendary Unit. The only question is—did they succeed?"
Ethan turned to him, intrigued. "You think there might be a hidden 13-Tier Legendary Unit Creature Dwelling somewhere in this Plane World?"
"Maybe," Cicero said with a shrug. "I don’t know for sure. It’s just a hunch."
