Chapter 392: This could be huge

"Project Ascendant Metal Golem?"

"Yeah..." Eldrin nodded, a flicker of fanatic excitement lighting up his eyes. "My Lord, you probably already know that the Tower faction’s standard military units are mostly based around Arcane Constructs, right?"

"But within that overarching category of Arcane Constructs, there are actually three major branches: Arcane Beings, Metal Golems, and Arcane Engines."

"Arcane Beings include units like Genies, Master Genies, Arcane Eagles, Simurgh Eagles, and so on. Metal Golems cover things like Gold Golems, Iron Golems, Diamond Golems. And Arcane Engines? Those are your Stone Gargoyles, Colossi, Arcane Colossi, Titans, and the like."

"Now here’s the thing—both Arcane Beings and Arcane Engines have their own full progression trees, all the way up to 13th-tier Legendary Units, and even 14th-tier Mythic Units. But Metal Golems? They’ve got nothing at that level."

"And that’s exactly why the ’Project Ascendant Metal Golem’ was launched."

"Archmages—some even Supreme Mages—who were obsessed with and specialized in the Metal Golem lineage, they weren’t satisfied with that gap. So they started this massive, centuries-spanning initiative to create their own Legendary and Mythic-tier Metal Golems."

"This all happened way back, before the era of the Seven Cities Alliance. I only found out about it because I stumbled across some ancient historical records that mentioned it..."

"So... did it work?" Ethan asked instinctively.

But the moment the words left his mouth, he froze—then gave himself a light smack on the forehead.

Seriously? Just look at the current state of the Tower faction. If the project had succeeded—if they’d actually managed to create new 13th-tier Legendary Units or, hell, 14th-tier Mythic Units—there’s no way that would’ve stayed under wraps. Legendary Units might be rare, but Mythic Units? You can’t just hide something like that. Like people always say: if it ever existed, there’d be traces of it somewhere.

Trying to keep something like that completely secret? Impossible. The very idea doesn’t hold water. There’s no such thing as a wall that doesn’t leak.

"Yeah... it probably failed," Eldrin said with a sigh, shaking his head. "Since the fall of the Seven Cities Alliance, countless ruins from the pre-Alliance era have been unearthed, but none of them have shown any sign of success—no records, no remains, nothing."

"If anything, the more we’ve uncovered, the more one particular theory has started to gain traction."

"What theory?" Ethan asked.

"That in the later stages of the ’Project Ascendant Metal Golem,’ those ancient Archmages and Supreme Mages started pinning all their hopes on something called the Ebonite Crystal."

"Ebonite Crystal?!" Ethan’s whole body tensed, his eyes wide with shock.

"Yeah..."

"Almost every Metal Golem comes with Magic Resistance—and I’m not talking about some external buff or enchantment. It’s built-in. Even the golems themselves can’t wield magic. We call this kind of trait Absolute Magic Resistance."

"Any unit with Absolute Magic Resistance is completely cut off from magic. No spells, no magical abilities—just brute force melee. And that’s one of the biggest weaknesses of the Metal Golem line."

"My Lord, let me give you an example. The Behemoth race? Their melee power is terrifying, sure—but what’s even scarier is their Rage trait. The more damage they take, the more devastating their attacks become. They can even unleash suicidal strikes that ignore defense entirely. Technically, that’s a form of magic too—classified under Mind Magic."

"Same goes for Black Dragons. They’ve got insane magic resistance—some of the stronger ones can tank Tier 5 spells head-on. But like the Behemoths, their resistance is external. And all dragons have their signature breath attacks—Draconic Force—which is pure magical energy."

As Eldrin spoke, Ethan’s eyes flickered with realization. Then he suddenly cut in, "So... the core idea behind creating Legendary and Mythic-tier Metal Golems is figuring out how to give magical power to beings that are fundamentally immune to magic?"

"Exactly!" Eldrin looked at him, clearly impressed, then nodded. "The Ebonite Crystal has incredibly high magical conductivity, and its fusion and compatibility properties are nearly perfect. That gave people hope—maybe, just maybe, it could let Metal Golems channel magic despite their Absolute Resistance. And since Ebonite Crystals can be artificially produced, if it worked, they could’ve mass-produced Legendary Units—maybe even Mythic Units—in a short time."

"But unfortunately, from the end of the pre-Seven Cities Alliance era, through the founding of the Alliance, and even now in the Tower faction under the Silver Empire... no one’s ever pulled it off."

"I mean, we’re talking about Legendary and Mythic Units here," Eldrin added with a wry smile. "If they were easy to make, they wouldn’t be called Legendary or Mythic, would they?"

Ethan shook his head, exhaling slowly. "Alright... let’s go check it out."

"Master!" Elynn suddenly spoke up, her voice firm. "Maybe we should wait a bit. Prince Cicero and the others should be arriving soon. Once they’re here, we can go together—it’ll be safer that way."

"It’s not that serious, is it? We’re just going to take a look. It’s not like we’re weak or anything..." Ethan said with a helpless chuckle.

"No, absolutely not! This is about your safety, and I won’t take any chances!" Elynn shot back without hesitation.

"...Alright, alright..." Ethan sighed and nodded, giving in.

"My Lord," Eldrin chimed in, "I brought along some 9th-tier Genies and 10th-tier Master Genies. How about we send them in first to scout things out?"

But just then, Eldrin’s expression shifted slightly as he added, "If the Creature Dwellings are guarded by 1st to 10th-tier units, they should be fine for recon. Even if it’s 11th or 12th-tier, they might still be able to escape... but if it’s..."

He trailed off, not finishing the sentence.

But Ethan’s eyes lit up instantly. "Then it’s settled—let’s give it a shot!"

"Yes, my Lord!" Eldrin nodded and moved quickly to carry out the order.

It wasn’t long before he returned—his face a mix of shock and barely contained excitement.

"How’d it go?" Ethan asked.

"My Lord... the guards at those Creature Dwellings are no joke," Eldrin said in a low voice, though his eyes gleamed with exhilaration. "The 9th-tier Genies I sent in were wiped out almost instantly. The 10th-tier Master Genies barely lasted thirty seconds... I’m guessing the guards are at least 12th-tier."

"Otherwise, there’s no way they’d be that powerful."

"12th-tier Creature Dwellings?!" Ethan’s whole body tensed, a surge of adrenaline rushing through him.

If that was true, then this trip was already worth it. The value of a 12th-tier Creature Dwelling was undeniable—just one step below the legendary 13th-tier units. This could be huge.

"Wait, where’s Karnak?" Ethan asked suddenly.

If Karnak were here, this would be a perfect job for him. After all, he was a twice-awakened orange-ranked Legendary Hero. With his strength, he could definitely get in and out with critical intel.

"No idea," Eldrin replied, shaking his head. "We split up earlier, and I haven’t seen him since."

"Then we wait," Elynn said again, her tone gentle but firm.

Ethan let out a soft sigh, a wry smile tugging at his lips. But deep down, he felt a warm sense of comfort. He knew Elynn was just looking out for him, and he appreciated it more than he let on.

And so, they waited.

Not long after—

Cicero returned!

And with him came Auremax, the Gold Dragon army, and a massive force of 1st to 10th-tier standard units.
