My Wife Turns Out to be an Empress of the Dynasty
Chapter 816 - 816: Xue Kuang's Request

Gu Lan's face showed confusion, but Xue Lengyan didn't provide much of an explanation. When she took a step forward, Gu Lan followed closely behind.

In just a short while, they arrived in a dimly lit starry sky.

Gu Lan didn't pay attention to anything else and instead focused on the formation that had materialized in front of them. Inside the formation stood a person whom he knew all too well—the Fifth Elder, Xue Kuang!

Seeing Xue Kuang here surprised Gu Lan, and a look of confusion crossed his face.

"This guy?"

"He's here to find you, but he was first discovered by our clan's stronger members!" Xue Lengyan explained.

Gu Lan was extremely puzzled. He's looking for me?

With an indifferent glance, Gu Lan drew out the Hongmeng Sword. While he didn't know what this guy wanted, he wasn't taking any chances. The guy's strength was not weak, so it was better to be cautious.

Upon seeing Xue Kuang, Gu Lan noticed a change in his expression as well. Before Xue Kuang could speak, Gu Lan coldly asked, "What do you want here?"

"I have a request for you!" Xue Kuang said.

The words shocked Gu Lan.

"The Fifth Elder of Xuanyuan Clan has a request for me? If this gets out, won't I be ridiculed by the world?"

Gu Lan didn't know what Xue Kuang was up to, but he wasn't interested in wasting words. With a tremor of the Hongmeng Sword, Gu Lan released his full aura.

"No more talking. If you want to fight, I'm ready anytime!"

To Gu Lan's surprise, however, Xue Kuang didn't seem inclined to fight. Even with the Hongmeng Sword poised at his neck, he showed no signs of aggression.

"I didn't come here to fight; I came to ask something from you!" Xue Kuang said, suddenly kneeling on the ground.

This act left Gu Lan completely baffled. He wasn't sure if the person in front of him was really the same Fifth Elder he had encountered earlier. Back then, this person had seemed eager to tear him apart, but now he was behaving this way. Gu Lan couldn't help but question what was going on.

"Just tell me what's happening here," Gu Lan said, his voice cold, though the killing intent in his eyes had lessened a little.

Seeing that Gu Lan had relented, Xue Kuang hurriedly spoke, "Our clan is sending the Fourth Elder, so please show mercy if you encounter her!"

Gu Lan had already expected Xuanyuan Clan wouldn't let things go easily, but he hadn't anticipated them coming so soon.

Once Xue Kuang finished speaking, Gu Lan responded indifferently, "Why should I show mercy if Xuanyuan Clan is looking for trouble with me?"

"I will promise you anything, just spare her life!" Xue Kuang's voice carried a hint of desperation.

Xue Kuang had never begged anyone before, but he had no choice now. For the Fourth Elder, he was forced to lower his head.

Gu Lan was even more confused. The reason Xue Kuang had come here was simple: he had felt the terrifying power of Gu Lan.

Earlier, he hadn't thought much of Gu Lan, but after their previous battle, he realized the difference in strength was far more than just a little. Especially when Gu Lan used his blood aura to infiltrate him—he was no match for it. If not for his quick escape, he would have already been dead.

The Fourth Elder's strength wasn't as formidable as his, but her expertise lay in formations. However, if the formations weren't active, they too would face certain death.

Xuanyuan Clan had repeatedly tried to eliminate Gu Lan, so Gu Lan wasn't about to let them have their way.

Gu Lan gave Xue Kuang a cold glance and then swiftly delivered a powerful slap.

Xue Kuang hadn't expected this attack. Before he could react, he found himself tens of thousands of feet away.

"Today, I won't kill you because you're injured. If I see you again, I won't show mercy!" Gu Lan's voice was chilling.

"If Xuanyuan Clan dares to come after me, I'll make sure they never return!"

With that, Gu Lan turned and left.

Xue Lengyan was equally surprised that Gu Lan hadn't killed him. Though she didn't understand why, she wouldn't have let him go if it were her.

A severe injury was the best time to strike. Leaving him alive was a potential problem.

"Since he's from Xuanyuan Clan, you should leave soon," Xue Lengyan said coldly, without turning around.

"He might show mercy, but my people may not."

Xue Kuang finally withdrew his gaze from Gu Lan and, with a downcast expression, disappeared in a flash.

Once his presence was no longer detectable, Xue Lengyan walked forward.

"Why didn't you kill him? Leaving him alive could cause trouble!" she asked, her voice carrying an icy tone.

Gu Lan's expression remained cold as he replied, "It's not the right time yet."

Xue Kuang hadn't seemed like he was lying earlier.

Gu Lan had already made up his mind. Since this was the case, why not kill two birds with one stone?

"I'll need you and the Blood Clan's strong to help me defend the palace and ensure its safety!" Gu Lan said.

He couldn't be sure what kind of powerful people Xuanyuan Clan would send this time, but he had to be prepared.

He didn't want to be caught off guard like last time.

Gu Lan couldn't afford to use his Blood Demon Kung Fu recklessly—if he did, he might end up dead.

"Master Gu, rest assured. I've already instructed my subordinates. They are well-prepared!" Xue Lengyan responded.

Though their relationship was merely one of cooperation, Gu Lan still trusted her to handle things efficiently.

Without further words, Gu Lan left.

Moments later, he returned to the palace.

As he stopped, Gu Simu walked out from the palace. However, this time, she stopped a few dozen feet away from him.

"Father, your injuries have healed!" she said.

"I'm fine now, my daughter," Gu Lan replied.

He took a few steps forward, but Gu Simu instinctively stepped back.

Seeing this, Gu Lan felt a pang of guilt.

"I couldn't control my strength before. Please forgive me this time, I won't do it again!" Gu Lan said, half-squatting down.

When she saw that there was no sign of wild energy emanating from him, Gu Simu stepped forward.

"I believe you, Father!"

"My Lord!" Before Gu Lan could speak, Zhongren's voice came from outside the palace.

Zhongren looked flustered, with a serious expression in his eyes.

"Powerful figures from Xuanyuan Clan have arrived. Please, my Lord, come and take a look!" Zhongren urged.

Hearing Zhongren's voice, Gu Lan's expression darkened, and killing intent flickered in his eyes.

With a flick of the Hongmeng Sword, Gu Lan released his full aura and stepped into the sky.

As soon as he halted, he was captivated by the sight of a stunning figure in the distance.

He stared for a moment, his mind suddenly blank.

Under his gaze, the person turned around.

With a single smile, it sent ripples through Gu Lan's heart, as though a flood had surged through him.

"You must be Gu Lan. I am the Fourth Elder of Xuanyuan Clan, Humei," she said.

Her words brought Gu Lan back to his senses.

Shaking his head, the strange sensation in his heart disappeared.

"Xuanyuan Clan again? You guys really can't leave me alone. Since you're here, let's see what you've got!" Gu Lan said coldly.

Now he understood why Xue Kuang had begged him. It wasn't difficult to figure out. That guy had surely been charmed by her beauty.
