My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 352: The Glacial Nomads

Chapter 352: The Glacial Nomads

While my group and I were in the unnamed settlement in the glacial area, we met Osvif, who was a father figure for both Magnus and Bjorn.

There were twelve more people who lived in the settlement, with two of them being young children. A 10-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy.

I was surprised that they managed to live here for this long while we saw other towns that were wholly abandoned and destroyed.

Osvif explained that their settlement didn’t have a name as they were always moving to different spots of the glacial area.

Whenever there was a shift in the fishing locations, the entire settlement would move along to the best area where they could rebuild their igloos quickly and fish their meals.

The main reason the people there never got targeted by the devil was because he had simply never found them, which, honestly, was pretty impressive.

The warriors told Osvif that we were on our way to the "Ice Crossing," and the old man raised an eyebrow with concern, saying that the bridge was no longer there.

I didn’t know what they were talking about, so I inquired a bit more.

Our plan was to go to this area in the north to travel west safely without crossing through the capital.

However, the east and the west areas of the north weren’t fully connected with each other, and it had a long, natural bridge made of ice that people could cross from one side to the other.

They called the bridge the Ice Crossing, but as Osvif said, it was no longer there.

"The Lava Dragon produced a crazy amount of heat not long ago, and the bridge got drowned by the water..." Osvif elaborated.

’The Lava Dragon...?’ I thought.

I had heard about a dragon living in the north, but I didn’t know that he was active like Arashi was.

I asked a bit more about the dragon, and Osvif said that the mountain that split the glacial area on the west was called "Black Ice Pinnacle," and it was the home of one of the oldest dragons in the world.

He didn’t know why, but a few months prior to our arrival, the dragon released a massive amount of energy that shook the seas and covered the ice bridge, making it unpassable for the people living there.

We would have to cross the Black Ice Pinaccle if we wanted to reach the settlement where the members of the Dawn’s Defenders were waiting for us, so I thought about paying a visit to the Lava Dragon.

Still, I wasn’t sure if that was the best idea, considering we didn’t have much of a reason to bother it.

We only met Arashi because she was the one taking care of one of the relics we needed for the World’s Titan, and we had to go through her trial to be able to talk to her.

’Hmmm, I’ll talk it out with my companions later...’ I thought.

After we built an igloo for ourselves to look exactly like the ones they had, I pulled some food from my void pocket to share with them.

The people living there had a diet that consisted of fish, algae, and "snow yams."

<Snow Yam

Only grows in areas below -10 degrees Celsius.

Toxic if eaten raw.

Slightly more bitter and starchy than other types of yams.

Great source of energy.>

It was my first time seeing a vegetable like that, and just as the "inspect" window said, it didn’t taste that good.

They combined the snow yams with fish and algae so that the vegetable would soak some of its taste and hide the bitterness behind it.

Still, it wasn’t like they just couldn’t eat them, as they were pretty much the only carbs they had in their diet.

Wanting to give them something different while I was there, I made a huge hotpot for everyone to enjoy, which I thought was the best option with how cold it was outside.

I added boar meat, potatoes, carrots, and a few different spices that I had gathered from my travels. Then, I made a large portion of white rice to accompany it.

Osvif praised me, saying that he had never tasted something so good, not even while he traveled all over the Northern Empire.

The kids were eating with big smiles on their faces, and thinking that they had never had something sweet, I took some pieces of chocolate and fruits for them, too.

Honestly, I felt pretty happy seeing them eating with such happiness, and their appetites must have been strong since they finished the entire thing.

Still, I felt pretty bad thinking that they would only get to eat something like that while I was there, and I decided to give them a delivery tablet. That way, I could send some more food for them from anywhere.

It’s not like it would cost me anything to do so—they were only twelve people, I had enough food to feed thousands inside my void pocket, and my supply only got larger the more I traveled.

Once we were done eating, all of the settlers thanked me for the food, and we went inside our respective igloos to sleep.

While I didn’t feel much of the cold with my enchanted poncho, I could tell that it was still freezing inside the igloo.

The settlers had magic lamps inside their homes that had a fire enchantment, and while it helped them a little with the cold, it was definitely not enough.

*sigh* "This is going to bother me if I don’t do something about it..." I muttered.

"What is?" asked Gina, who was trying to sleep next to me and the warriors.

The settlers advised us to cuddle each other while sleeping to make the cold more bearable during the night, but we didn’t need to be so close together as I placed an enchantment inside the igloo to keep it warm.

I thought about putting the same enchantment on the others, but these people were nomads who kept moving to different locations, so it would only benefit them for the time they spent here.

I opened my void pocket and pulled out some iron ore that I had saved up for years, then I molded it with magic into a lamp and added an alternative version of the warming enchantment.

This version would make the inside of any structure the lamp was in to feel much warmer. In other words, it was an upgrade to the ones they used.
