My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World -
Chapter 350: Baelzor’s Eyes
Chapter 350: Baelzor’s Eyes
After my group and I walked for a few hours, we managed to get to a small hill that divided the forest from a field covered in a thick layer of snow that reached my knees.
The only reason we weren’t flying was because the warriors told me that the devil had creatures that went around scouting different areas.
At first, I thought they were talking about lesser demons, but they described these monsters as large, floating eyeballs.
Apparently, everything those eyes spotted was also seen by the devil, so if we started flying carelessly, we ran the risk of telling Baelzor of our presence here.
We had the option of using an invisibility potion, but since we could only use them once every twenty-four hours, I thought it was wiser to save them in case of an emergency.
Once we reached the snowy field, we could see the mountains in the north, but we still had quite a long way to go.
"What if we fly really high? Could those eyes see us?" I asked the warriors.
However, since they couldn’t fly, they didn’t know the range of the creature’s visions and couldn’t give me an answer.
"I mean, if we keep this pace, we’ll reach the mountain in two days... maybe even more," I said, trying to come up with a quicker method.
After a few minutes, I decided that we would all drink an invisibility potion, carry the warriors, and fly high in the air. Then, we would rush to the mountain and get as close as possible in those thirty minutes that the potion lasted.
It was a bit of a gamble since we didn’t know if the potion would end its effects while we were in an awkward place or if the eyes could see beyond our invisibility.
Nonetheless, I believed it was worth the try, and after we all downed the potions, I carried Bjorn while Vespera carried Magnus.
We were holding them under their arms, which was a bit difficult since they had pretty big and strong arms that didn’t let me get a good hold of him, so we used gravity magic to make them lighter and easier to carry.
After flying up a few hundred meters, we started moving at high speeds as we flew to the northern mountain, getting hit in the face by the cold wind that made my nose a bit runny.
Not even ten minutes later, we spotted an obsidian orb flying in the distance.
"Those are the creatures!" exclaimed Bjorn, who I was still carrying in the air.
’That thing?’ I pondered.
It was pretty far from us, so I wasn’t able to detail the spheric monster until we got closer to it.
It was an eye the size of a large beach ball covered by thick obsidian skin that seemed to be made of rocks. The iris was crimson red, and I could sense some demonic energy emanating from its body.
The eye was flying at the same altitude, which was impressive, as it implied that Baelzor had air defenses to protect himself from flying enemies.
Luckily, we had one less concern to worry about when we realized that the eye couldn’t see us while invisible, so we kept moving away from it.
When we had about a minute left for the potion’s effect to run out, we descended into the middle of a thick forest that was wholly covered in white from the snow.
The pine trees were pretty tall, and we didn’t have much visibility from the sheer volume that surrounded us. However, that was actually good for us.
Bjorn and Magnus said that the forest was called "White Woods," and it supposedly led all the way to the bottom of the mountain in the north. Nonetheless, that didn’t mean that we were close to it, as the forest was pretty sizeable.
Knowing that we couldn’t use another invisibility potion until the next day, we kept walking for a little more before it got dark.
As soon as the sun hid, the temperature dropped very low, so I decided it was time for us to stop and rest for the next day.
In the middle of the White Woods, mostly surrounded by pine trees and a thick layer of snow, I built a shack where my group and I would comfortably fit.
Inside, I placed an enchantment to keep the shack warm and cozy to protect us from the temperatures below 0 degrees outside.
The warriors told me that the White Woods had snow storms frequently, which was why it was always covered in such a thick layer of snow.
That night wasn’t any different, as we could hear the roar and whistles of the strong, icy wind hitting the outside of our shack.
While we were resting and eating, I sent a voice message to Melina, telling her about the flying eyes of Baelzor and the fact that most people had been brainwashed by him.
In return, she sent me a message saying that she and her group had made it safely to Vista and had a talk with the king of the country.
Apparently, she was received by Sage Louie, accompanied by Luca and Florencia, who were happy to see that Melina was safe after the news from Guanghua spread all over the world.
I sighed with relief, knowing that everyone was okay, and took a nap next to Yoru to use him as a pillow.
The following morning, I was the first one to wake up after I heard a sound coming from the door, and it was Vespera trying to open it.
The snowstorm had utterly covered our shack and blocked us from getting out. Still, it wasn’t much of a problem in this world, as Vespera used water magic to melt the thick layer of snow that was blocking our door.
The sun was pretty bright, which wasn’t that common to see this early in the morning. Nonetheless, the warriors were the ones to explain to me that the days in the north lasted longer than the nights during that season.
"Well, that’s not too bad for us. The longer the day, the more we can keep moving without stopping..." I said to my group, who seemed to agree with me.
