My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 328: The Temple’s Secret Passage

Chapter 328: The Temple’s Secret Passage

The day after the trial of the corrupt nobles, Renjun had to keep meeting with more families to compensate or punish them, depending on why they were there.

Before he started, we asked him if he knew anything about the core that was supposedly hidden under the palace.

Renjun told us that he had heard the story of an ancient treasure buried under, but he thought that it was just a tale as he had never seen it.

He explained that he had walked all over the underground tunnels and knew them well enough to avoid getting lost. Even then, he had never seen an ancient relic down there.

I was about to ask him to give us access so that we could inspect the tunnels, but Nessa interrupted us first, saying that she had seen a strange door inside Phelena’s temple.

The temple was relatively close to the palace, so if it somehow had an underground passage, it was possible that it reached under it.

"I found the door at the back of the temple, but it was sealed with some strange magic..." said Nessa.

She explained that if the door hadn’t been sealed with that spell but with demonic energy, she would have been able to open it with no problem. Nonetheless, it was something she hadn’t seen before.

While Renjun kept doing his job as the new emperor, our group visited the temple to check out the mystery door.

The place had already been cleaned out of all the mangled and deformed corpses that Nessa found, but the walls were still painted with blood splatters, and there was a pungent stench of death that was a bit overwhelming.

At the back of the temple, there was a statue of Phelena with the top half missing, leaving only her legs, which were also splattered with blood from Vyrazul’s victims.

Before we continued, I used earth magic to fix the statue, the same one I had used in our temple at End Town, and it took me about five seconds to fix it.

Melina used wind magic to open all of the windows and double doors of the temple, making the air from outside flow through the temple to get rid of the smell.

I also used water magic to spray water on the blood splatters all over the walls and floor, using my hand like some sort of power-washer from my past world.

We didn’t really have any obligations to fix the place, but I would be lying if I said it didn’t bother me seeing Phelena’s temple in that state.

After we were done cleaning and remodeling the inside, Nessa guided us to the back, where she found the magic door.

It looked like a door from our past world with a round handle, and the wood had a strange pattern carved on it.

Right next to it, there was a plaque on the wall with English numbers written in letters that said, "Two, Four, Six, Eight, —"

"Umm, ten?" I muttered aloud, making the engravings on the door glow and blink momentarily.

"Uhh, nothing happened..." I said, placing a hand on my chin and inspecting the door closer.

"Wait, Ichi. Look..." Melina interjected as she read the same plaque that had the numbers now showing a completely different question.

"Three, Six, Nine, Twelve, —"

"Fifteen!" Melina said loudly, making the engravings on the door glow once again as the question faded, making a third and last one appear on the plaque.

"What do you get from mixing red and blue?"

"Purple..." I replied, making the door’s engravings glow brightly and hearing the sound of a lock opening.

The plaque didn’t show any more questions, and when I turned the handle, we made our way inside the mysterious room.

It was small and dark, with only a small circular platform that seemed to be made of hard stone and had a button in the center.

Seeing that there wasn’t much space for our entire group, we asked everyone to wait for us in the temple while Melina and I went down.

Yoru was coming with us since he was inside my shadow, but we also took Nessa with us as she was the one who found the place, and she seemed pretty curious about it.

After we all stood on the circular platform, I pushed the button, and it started going down slowly like an elevator, making us use light magic to illuminate the surroundings as we were going pretty deep down.

The elevator stopped after five minutes of descending underground, and we found a long hall with metallic frames and walls illuminated with magic.

We couldn’t see the end of the hall, but it was the only path we could take, so we started walking along the corridor that didn’t even seem to belong in this world.

It took us a little over thirty minutes of walking to reach the end, which was a massive room that looked somewhat futuristic, even though it was all powered by magic.

The walls were laminated with white metal, and the frames produced light that made it seem like they were LED lights from our past world. However, they were just crystal frames with light enchantments on them.

From the aesthetics of the place, I could tell that it was Alejandro who built it, as he was the one who brought all of this sci-fi-looking stuff into this world, including the world titan, which was very obviously based on a mecha from comics.

In the center of the room, there was a pedestal with a large blue orb that produced a faint glow and a weathered book right beside it.

I picked up the book and gently opened it so that it wouldn’t dissolve to dust, and the first page read: "World’s Titan Core Instructions for Dummies. Written by: Alejandro."

It was relieving to know that the orb we found was, indeed, the core we were looking for, but thinking about having to read a book of instructions made by Alejandro was a bit concerning.

It wasn’t that Alejandro was a bad person or anything. On the contrary, he was definitely a super smart and powerful sage who saved this world once and helped in its development.

Still, he had this infamy between reincarnators of leaving innocuous clues behind that could be pretty annoying, especially if it were an urgent matter that left us with little time to solve them.
