Chapter 321: Melina’s Memories (Part 2)
While Melina was unconscious after hitting her head, remembrances of her past life started to appear before her clearer than ever.
She had seen some of these scenes in her dreams, but now, she truly felt like they were much more than that.
In one scene, she found herself inside a college lecture hall with a professor teaching a lesson.
Melina stood in the middle of the classroom, waving her hand in front of the people around her to confirm that they couldn’t see her, and when she gazed to the side, she spotted the same light brown-haired woman with emerald eyes.
She was attentively taking notes when she bumped her elbow with the desk and knocked down a pen, which was picked up by a man sitting next to her.
"Here you go..." said the man with dark hair and facial scars.
The green-eyed girl blushed and thanked him for his consideration, and as she grabbed the pen from his hand, time stopped, and the entire scene was frozen, leaving the silver-haired Melina confused as her head kept throbbing with pain.
’This is how they-, no... This is how WE met...’ she thought.
The entire scenery shifted around her, showing her small snippets of old memories where the two individuals were having a great time together.
They were walking in the university courtyards, studying at the library, and playing carnival games. Most of these things were unknown to the current Melina, but her brain could tell that she had lived all those moments before.
In one of the memories, she saw the man sitting in front of a piano with the old Melina sitting beside him, listening to him playing a tune.
The current silver-haired Melina recognized the melody in an instant, as it was the exact same that Ichiro had recorded in the music box that was given to her as a present.
"You liked it?" The old version of Ichiro asked.
"That was beautiful! Are you gonna name it?" his wife asked.
"I already did. It’s called Melina..."
Just as Ichiro answered, the current Melina remembered the time she heard the song in End Town, and the clouds that were hiding her past memories were finally clearing out.
From there, all of her past knowledge kept flowing into her brain, and while she felt overwhelmed by it, she couldn’t help but shed a few tears for the old memories of Melina and Ichiro in a completely different world where they got married and traveled the world together.
’I remember...’ Melina thought.
Another scene showed her old parents and the moment they met Ichiro, which was a heartwarming moment as they wholeheartedly accepted him as part of their family.
She remembered what had happened to the past Ichiro and how his relationship with his family drove him to escape his home and live with a man who taught him martial arts.
During the times that these remembrances were just dreams, Melina couldn’t help but think that the scars on the dark-haired Ichiro looked a bit intimidating, even though she knew he had the face of a gentle person.
However, now that she could remember every detail, she thought the scars weren’t that bad.
When Melina was starting to feel happy about her old memories, the scenery changed to show her last moments with Ichiro.
They were inside a car driving on a European street at night, wanting to get to a small town where they would be staying for a few days.
Unluckily for them, the truck that was driving on the opposite side of the road had problems with its brakes, and for whatever reason, it swerved off his lane and crashed head-first against their car.
Witnessing the last moments in her past life, she couldn’t help but cry out loud after seeing Ichiro’s face full of despair and tears.
She kneeled and covered her face with shame, feeling awful about having left Ichiro alone when she knew they were the happiest when they were together.
Suddenly, the scenery changed once again, but not to another remembrance but to a starry field that made it seem like she was standing on an invisible floor with constellations of stars surrounding her.
"You must wake up, Melina..." a woman’s voice echoed.
The silver-haired princess raised her head full of tears and scanned her surroundings, seeing a figure standing too far for her to detail them.
In the blink of an eye, the tall woman stood before Melina with beautiful hair as blue as the sky, wearing a silky white dress that showcased the side of her legs.
"Goddess Phelena...?" Melina muttered in disbelief.
She knew how the goddess looked thanks to the statues that Ichiro had built in End Town, but she never expected her beauty to be so ethereal and majestic.
"Wh-what is happening? Why am I here?" She asked, wiping her tears and standing up from the invisible floor.
"I would have preferred you regained your memories in a more peaceful manner, but I have little time, so I’ll make this brief..." Phelena replied.
The goddess explained that she was the one who sent Melina’s spirit to reincarnate in her world as a princess.
"You see. I can only choose one person to become my child every few hundred years, but this time, I wanted to bring two..." the goddess continued.
Phelena wanted Ichiro and Melina to become sages in her world, knowing that the two of them would be able to clear it from the devils that plagued it.
In the past, there weren’t as many devils threatening her world, so one sage chosen by Phelena was enough to put an end to them.
However, there were more of them this time, and after she had been watching over Melina and Ichiro in their past lives, she thought that the two of them would be the perfect candidates.
After Melina’s death, Phelena devised a plan in which she would be able to bring them both to her world.
Her limitation didn’t allow her to have more than one child at a time, which led her to choose the Sephyr family to become Melina’s new parents.
The main reason she brought Ichiro to the world as a twelve-year-old was so that he would be the same age as Melina, wanting nothing more than for them to get together again.
Phelena was worried at first when Ichiro asked her to send him somewhere far away from people, as she wanted to send him close to Melina.
The goddess knew that there were far more remote areas in the world she could have chosen, but not wanting to separate Melina and Ichiro even further, she sent him to End Forest since it was in the same kingdom.
Of course, being born in the world made it so that Melina couldn’t remember her past life. Still, her experiences had been so defining that her spirit never forgot those moments and kept replaying them whenever she slept.
Melina was puzzled and amazed at the truth that dawned on her, but she didn’t have time to ask more questions.
"You must wake up, Melina... He needs you," said Phelena, extending her hand and warping all of the space around them.
