Chapter 212: Cherry Blossom Field

Chapter 212: Cherry Blossom Field

The following day, after staying at Yumiko Port, we took the group of students to the outskirts of the city, where the carriages that would take us to the capital were waiting for us.

The ride was supposed to be one full day, so we would have to stay one night on the road. However, we were told that the trail from the port to the capital was not only safe but it had a nice view.

During that time, I showed the students a method of training magic that they could do while traveling so that they wouldn’t spend too long without practicing.

All they had to do was cast a small orb of magic from whichever element they had the most affinity to and keep it from dissipating.

This meant that they had to keep providing a steady amount of MP to the orb to keep it alive, but not enough for it to damage anything.

While on the road, I occasionally flew high up to check our surroundings. I knew that they told me it was a safe trek, but there was nothing wrong with me looking out for them anyway.

As nighttime slowly came down, the carriages stopped, and Melina and I built a camp with earth magic for everyone to use.

If this had been an exam, they would have had to build their own camping tents, but since that wasn’t the case, Melina and I were able to construct our usual rooms for everyone to get a good rest.

Surprisingly, we were in the middle of a cherry blossom field next to a small hill, and once we climbed it, we were stoked at the view before us.

A field that extended into the distance with hundreds of cherry blossom trees and a wind that blew their pink leaves all around the area, giving the sight a more colorful and vibrant look.

After having a large hot pot for everyone to share, along with a bowl of rice, the students and chaperones went to their rooms to rest while I stayed outside for a bit longer.

I wasn’t feeling that sleepy, so I returned to the small hill next to the camp and sat down to watch the moon gently illuminating the pink fields.

"Can’t sleep?" said Melina, who had snuck up on me.

"Yeah. I guess I’m a bit excited..." I replied.

As I placed my hands against the ground and leaned back, Melina sat beside me, placing her hand on top of mine, making me blush for a moment since it felt warm and soft.

"Oh, I bought this in town..." Melina said as she opened her void pocket, bringing out a teapot and two small cups.

The tea inside was still hot, evident from the steam that came out of the hole, which made me believe that the princess bought it and stowed it away instantly to keep it warm.

"It’s green tea. They import it to Sephyr too, but I heard that it’s much better here..." she continued, pouring it into the cups.

While carefully sipping our tea and admiring the view, I couldn’t help but stare at Melina and think about how beautiful she looked under the moon and the cherry blossoms. However, it was interrupted when she let out a sigh.

"What’s wrong? You don’t like the tea?" I asked.

"No, no. I love it, actually... It just..." she stopped for a moment.

"The taste is very familiar. Almost nostalgic..." she said.

’Well, of course, she finds it familiar since she used to love it in our past lives...’ I thought, but I stayed silent as she kept talking.

"It was the same with those seafood rice balls. It was definitely my first time trying them, but I felt like I had eaten them before... Is that weird?" she asked.

"I..." I tried to speak up, but I didn’t know what to say to her, so she kept going.

"It’s not just with food. It happened when I met you, too..." she continued.

Melina explained that before meeting me, she used to have dreams where she found herself somewhere else with a man who had a scar on his face.

’A scar?’ I pondered, a bit shocked that she said that since I used to have a scar on my face in my past life, courtesy of the beatings I received from my father.

She couldn’t recall the details of the dream, but the one thing she remembered was that it always had a sad ending, which would make her wake up in tears.

"Every time I dream about the man with the scar, I get these beautiful scenes that make my heart flutter, only for it to end tragically..." Melina said.

She elaborated that she had been having these dreams before meeting me, and while their frequency had reduced, she still had them occasionally.

"Back then, when I asked for a meeting with you... It was because I heard you had the same name as the man with the scar..." she confessed, clutching her sleeping gown tightly.

"Am I crazy?" she asked, giving me a sad smile.

If there had ever been any sliver of doubt in my heart that Melina wasn’t my reincarnated wife, then it was completely gone now.

She had just confessed that she was having dreams about our past memories, but of course, she didn’t see them as such.

’Why would Phelena make me keep my memories but wipe hers?’ I pondered.

"You are not crazy, Mel..." I replied, making her turn to lock eyes with me.

"D-do you really not remember anything?" I softly asked while clutching her hand.

Melina gave me a solemn and beautiful smile, tightening her grip on my hand and keeping her gaze locked with mine.

"I don’t..." she replied with small tears under her eyes.

"But I do know what feels right, and being with you has always made me feel comfortable and warm." Melina finished her sentence, leaning her head against my shoulder.

"I feel the same way, Mel..." I said, embracing the princess under the moonlight and cherry blossoms, consoling her for the few tears she shed.

’One day, I’m sure she will remember everything...’
