My Wife and I Became Sages in Another World
Chapter 104: Distressed Soldiers

Chapter 104: Distressed Soldiers

It had been a few days since I left Melina at the academy and taught Triana the ropes of her new job.

After I made sure that everything in End Town was in order, I visited the temple where I had built the statues of the gods, remembering that I should add Asys to the mix now that I had met him.

Luckily, it took me literal seconds to complete the sculpture with magic, and when I left the temple, I saw a group of villagers that were waiting for me to be done so they could pray to the newly added statue.

Temples in the Sephyr Kingdom didn’t have priests or anything similar to them. The devotion that people had for the gods came from within them, which I thought was interesting.

I had heard that certain nations in the world took religion more seriously and had churches dedicated to different gods with priests and nuns that would receive the believers.

But in the Sephyr Kingdom, even with the absence of a religious institution, many people were devoted to the gods.

After hearing their praises for the Asys’ sculpture, I went back home to prepare myself since I would be traveling all over the country, training the knights’ orders.

Of course, I wasn’t going to stay with each order for months, or I would have literally been there for years. Instead, I had to travel to build their facilities, teach them the basics, give them a routine, and then go to the next.

Gina had become my personal maid by royal decree, so I couldn’t tell her to stay at the capital, and asking her to stay home in End Town felt a little cruel since the battle maid seemed to enjoy being outside.

For the time being, I asked her to come with me and help train the knights. She was at a much higher level than them anyway, so I thought she would be an excellent sparring partner.

Thanks to Vespera adding the enchantments to her uniform and hunting armor, she was able to fly along with me to the other cities without trouble.

There were seven knights’ orders, but since the 4th was already good with their training, we only had to visit six of them. To make it easy, we went in order, starting with the 1st order stationed at the capital.

Commander William, who looked like a handsome but arrogant dude, ended up being quite the nice guy.

Usually, showing my magic to others led to weird conversations and doubts since a lot of people were unaware they could cast magic without saying words. However, William watched me as if he was studying every single move I made.

Honestly, it made me wish that all knights were like him. He was a person who understood that I knew something he didn’t and was willing to learn. That was all I asked out of the people I taught.

After we were done teaching the 1st their new training routine, we were ready to move on to the 2nd, which was currently without a commander since Garret had been sent to the 4th.

Nonetheless, our work there ended up being easier since they already had our training routine, so we made sure that they were following it properly.

When we got to the 3rd order in Glorya, Commander Sara acted just as William, except the woman actually brought a pen to take notes.

’That works too...’ I thought, slightly amused at the woman who looked so serious and badass taking notes.

When we visited the 5th, the knights that specialized in small weapons and faster combat, I gave them the same routine but changed a few things since their body builds were different.

I also taught them spells that would help them more than the other traditional knights.

The 6th order was meant to be split between different towns and settlements, but they had all gone to their headquarters for the training routine, which saved us a lot of time.

Lastly, we visited the 7th at the border, who were also following our routine already, with Commander Valentina on the lead.

That night, my companions and I decided to spend it at the border and return home in the morning. But before I went to sleep, I used my voice crystal to call Melina so she could tell me about her classes.

She told me that she had met her two roommates. One was a princess from an eastern country called "Kyotora," and the other was an elf girl who was the daughter of the current chief of elves, which pretty much meant she was an elven princess.

"Huh? So they put all the princesses in one room?" I asked Melina on the voice crystal.

However, she told me that it was a complete coincidence that they all enrolled at the same time since she expected to share the room with other nobles but not princesses from other nations.

"I thought elves didn’t like hanging out with humans..." I commented, thinking mostly about the elves from the fantasy novels I used to read in my past life.

They were always depicted as nature-loving creatures who hated humans, and while I was aware that they existed in this world, I had never seen one.

I had seen dwarves, and they were pretty much exactly how I imagined them, so I thought elves would stay somewhat isolated from humans.

Melina realized that I didn’t know what I was talking about, so she explained to me via voice crystal about the elves’ relationship with the humans.

From what she said, there was a human who long ago managed to strike a deal with the elves.

At the time, the elves were isolated in their own settlements and forests, as I expected they would be. However, the person who talked to them convinced them that humans weren’t as bad as they seemed, incorporating them more into society.

That event happened around 300 years ago, and since elves lived way longer than humans, they still remembered the pact from back then. However, humans started to forget about it, and eventually, elves were being taken as slaves.

The chief of the elves decided to play it safe but still keep the deal they made with that human. So, instead of rejecting all humans, they only denied the nations that discriminated against them.

"So, it’s safe to say that the Sephyr Kingdom is on good terms with the elves?" I asked the princess as she told me the story.

"Yep. Sephyr, Kyotora, and Balinesia are the elves’ allies," she replied.

Balinesia was another nation in the eastern continent that was really close to both the dwarven and elves’ countries, so it seemed natural that they had a good relationship.

"Wait. Doesn’t Kyotora have their own academy?" I asked the princess, who confirmed my suspicions.

However, she explained that the first prince was already attending their academy, so the second princess decided to go to the one in Sephyr.

It was pretty much the same as Melina and he brother Darius, except her brother was the one who traveled to the academy in Kyotora.

After talking to Melina for a little longer and telling her about all the work we had been doing the past few weeks, we ended up falling asleep while still on the call until the following day.

The next morning, I woke up due to a commotion I heard outside, making me quickly stand up and check it out.

It turned out to be a group of foot soldiers from the Droman Empire who had just arrived from traveling through the Illusive Woods and were crossing the border into our kingdom.

The soldiers looked distressed, mumbling that they had lost two men in the forest after they were attacked by illusions.

’Attacked by illusions?’ I pondered, listening to the men talk.

They were sent to the Sephyr Kingdom by their empress, who had been skirmishing against the forces of the Kalusia Kingdom for a week in their borders and wanted to ask the king of Sephyr for help in their battle.

"Wait, what? The Kalusia Kingdom is attacking the Droman Empire?" I asked, just to confirm their story.

They explained that the forces of the devil Zagor had crossed the desert and were trying to invade their bordering towns, but they were able to defend themselves thanks to the fact that all their soldiers were in bad shape from traveling in the desert for days.

’This is bad... Zagor is trying to expand his dominion. If he conquers the Droman Empire, then we are next...’ I thought.

First, I wanted to see if I could find the two missing soldiers in the forest. But contrary to them, I was going to fly over it and check from a distance since I was a bit skeptical of the area.

When I first encountered the woods, it just gave me a peculiar feeling that I shouldn’t be crossing the place alone, so I followed my gut and didn’t venture inside. However, if I could find the missing guys, I could get some sort of clue as to how the place worked.
