Chapter 29 - 29: Ask

"Halo, Isabel," David said, greeting her in a light tone.

He couldn't remember the last time he had spoken to her, but that time Isabel had spoken first.

"David!" The woman greeted him as well. "Do you live in this building?" She also asked, making David show a strange expression.

It seemed that she hadn't even guessed that he was Audrey's younger brother.

Or maybe she guessed but didn't try to come right out and say it.

"This is my apartment," David replied, pointing at the door beside which Isabel stood.

The latter finally seemed to understand.

"So you're Dr. Audrey's younger brother," she said, showing a surprised expression again.

Of course, the students would call David's older sister Dr. Audrey because she did have that title.

Maybe next year she will get the title of Professor.

"Yes..." David nodded to Isabel.

"It seems that you were in her class, I don't know where she is now, but I also forgot to bring the key, so I can't open this door," he said.

Isabel's expression became strange when she heard that.

Actually, she was also a little hesitant to enter the apartment if it made her alone in the apartment with Audrey's younger brother who turned out to be David.

Even before meeting David, she had planned to go home several times.

David shook his head, choosing not to comment.

After that, he took out his cell phone and called Audrey.

"Sis, where are you now? When are you coming home?" David asked.

"I'm already on my way, wait about 30 minutes," Audrey replied.

"30 minutes? Are you out of town?" David wondered.

The traffic at this hour was usually very smooth, it shouldn't take up to 30 minutes to get from any end of Paris to this apartment, as long as it was completely within the city.

"It's work," Audrey replied without elaborating before disconnecting the phone.

This time, David turned on his phone's speaker, so Isabel could hear it.

"Are you sure you want to keep waiting?" David asked her.

"Yes," she replied.

After that conversation, there seemed to be nothing more to talk about with the woman.

David was silent and ended up leaning against the opposite wall, thinking what he needed to do next while playing with his cell phone.

He had two questions now. Did he need to try to get her heart like his power wanted? And if so, what steps did he need to take?

Unlike him, Isabel preferred to read one of his books.

Probably about 4 minutes after they had not spoken, David suddenly felt a gaze from Isabel.

He spontaneously looked at her and it surprised Isabel because she thought David would not look at her. Her gaze quickly returned to her book, seeming nothing strange at all, like she was just glancing at David to confirm if he was still standing opposite her.

However, David was sure she wanted to pay attention to him.

This kind of situation probably wouldn't happen in high school because he was the inconspicuous type.

In university, he became very conspicuous because of Jane.

And even without that, he should be very conspicuous in Isabel's eyes now that they were alone together here, there was really no one else.

"By the way, Isabel, do you have a boyfriend?" asked David who was still looking at her.

He wasn't sure where the idea came from to ask that, but one thing that was clear was that he had the confidence to ask about this.

In high school, he was sure there was no way he would be as bold as he was now.

Asked about it, Isabel instantly shifted her gaze from the book she was reading to David.

"No, I've never been in a relationship," she said.

"This is surprising considering how popular you've been," David replied because it was indeed surprising information.

In high school at that time, almost all the popular guys had said they liked her, and David couldn't believe none of them had confessed their feelings for her. Maybe they all did.

"I wanted to focus on my studies in high school, so I decided not to date," Isabel replied, explaining calmly.

"What about now?" asked David in response.

He found the interactions with her quite enjoyable, perhaps because he looked up to her so highly in high school yet on the other hand he had no chance of getting close to her.

Of course, David was a bit pessimistic as Isabel's college life was probably much busier than her high school life.

However, her answer really surprised him.

"Maybe I'll start trying. At this age, sometimes it's a little difficult if we don't have a partner."
