Chapter 153: This is No Accident!
Chapter 153: Chapter 153: This is No Accident!
There was no doubt that Hayakawa Kashi regarded Slatter, the music master, very highly. They had walked for less than ten minutes when a subordinate called, seemingly to inform her that things had been arranged.
Hayakawa Kashi acknowledged, "Let her wait for me there."
After Little Arrogant Study Girl hung up the phone, Shirakawa Sawahei finally asked, "Something up?"
"Yes."
"So where are you going now?" Shirakawa Sawahei asked one more question. He had originally told Miss Kaori that he would treat her to a drink, and now halfway through, she suddenly had business to attend to. Wasn’t this as if the heavens intended for him to freeload her?
Buying something would be good, at least to reciprocate for being treated, since coming out with a girl for a meal today and not spending a penny would instead earn him the label of a kept man.
"Going for a drink." Little Arrogant Study Girl raised her eyebrows, "Shirakawa, are you regretting?"
"Of course not... is everything okay on your side?"
"What could possibly be wrong?" Hayakawa Kashi retorted.
"Alright then..."
Shirakawa Sawahei thought for a moment and suddenly remarked, "I long suspected your family was wealthy, but seeing today, it seems they’re even richer than I thought."
"Surprised?" Hayakawa Kashi didn’t deny it, just glanced at him lightly, "I thought you knew everything."
"...cough cough... Hayakawa, you’re joking..."
He certainly could know everything, but the prerequisite is that your affection level must be high enough.
However, Shirakawa Sawahei didn’t have the guts to say this out loud. He shook his head and said, "Had I known, I wouldn’t have invited you for a drink. It feels like I’m humiliating myself in front of wealth."
Hayakawa Kashi pressed her lips, "Shirakawa, it’s surprising that you’d say such a thing."
"Isn’t it the truth?"
"Yes and no." Miss Kaori walked on her own, stopping in front of a pedestrian red light, "Do you think wealth guarantees happiness?"
"..."
If Miss Kaori’s character were more comical, she might have said the next line: "No, the happiness of the wealthy is beyond your imagination."
Fortunately, this first study girl wasn’t characterized that way. As the green light lit up, her hand casually hooked behind her as she walked slowly, her tone carrying a faint sense of detachment, "Sometimes having more isn’t necessarily a good thing."
Shirakawa Sawahei felt a stirring in his heart and suddenly wanted to say something, but a glaring flash caught the corner of his eye.
A mysterious foreboding gripped him, as simultaneously, a shrill electronic sound came from Hayakawa Kashi’s body.
It was the sound of the alarm; the surrounding bodyguard team had detected the warning!
Hayakawa Kashi quickly composed herself and made a swift decision. While raising her eyes to observe the surroundings, she rapidly attempted to retreat.
It must be said, the girl’s reaction was cool-headed, as if she had undergone such crises many times before. Shirakawa Sawahei, having identified the source of danger, quickly yelled, "Careful!"
A runaway truck howled its way forward, its dazzling high beams disorienting to the point of causing a daze. The truck surged forward, almost grazing past Hayakawa Kashi’s body!
If the truck were even slightly faster, or the warning had come somewhat later, the pretty girl before them might have turned into a tragic accident victim.
What a close call!
Before Shirakawa Sawahei could even catch his breath, there was sudden movement from the co-driver seat of the runaway truck, where a pitch-black gun barrel appeared from a window crack, clearly fixed on Hayakawa Kashi from the very start.
First using the truck’s high beams to disrupt vision, the car accident failing, they immediately executed a second plan!
This was no accident, but an assassination!
An assassination attempt on Hayakawa Kashi!
His pupils suddenly dilated, instinct prompting his hand to quickly reach for Hayakawa Kashi’s slender frame.
Hayakawa Kashi also spotted the gun, yet strangely, her face didn’t show the dread of impending death but rather a sense of calm, tinged with regret and loneliness.
At this distance, it seemed the girl faced certain death.
She reminisced about her past, recalling how as a child, she felt none of her peers could keep up with her thoughts, leaving her with little interest in communicating with them. Many remarked on her pride and iciness, but they had to admit that this girl named Hayakawa Kashi possessed the capital for such pride; if you couldn’t match her, she deemed you unworthy of her gaze.
When one stands at the mountain’s peak, it’s hard to communicate with those at the foot or halfway up.
In this world, it seemed there was nothing she couldn’t tackle, the only difference was whether she cared to do it.
Ironically, she had smooth sailing throughout her life, recognized as the prodigy of the Hayakawa family and their future, only to be plotted against during her first assigned business plan.
How many would mourn, or would they struggle to contain their mirth at her funeral? How would they conduct her funeral?
If she survived, surely they’d be both hateful and afraid?
Thoughts flickered through her mind like playing in reverse. Some say that before death, one’s life flashes before their eyes like a movie. It’s as if heaven allows you a walk through life but doesn’t let you take even memories with you.
The death knell tolled fast, the opponent clearly unwilling to let her reminisce gently, as the silenced gun didn’t roar thunderously; a slight crack and a vibrant blood bloom flourished in midair.
Her frame tumbled as tires screeched, distant brake screeches pierced the air, and the girl’s consciousness faded to black amidst the din...
...
Asano Nazuki sat quietly in a richly decorated music hall, waiting for Hayakawa Kashi’s arrival.
Her expression was displeased, almost bearing anger on her face. To her, the wretched woman had called her over merely to toy with her.
Your piano skills are clearly formidable; why summon me? Are you belittling me!
And what about that supposed Italian maestro, gallivanting without a care. Truly vexing. If it’s merely self-amusement, fine, but dragging me along!
Treating me as a tool should have limits, right? Even Shirakawa Sawahei was slightly ashamed while freeloading off me!
Annoyed, she’d waited a long time, yet Hayakawa Kashi never appeared, until a family secretary hurried over, delivering an astonishing message.
"The young lady was attacked... she’s been taken to the hospital, Second Miss..."
Asano Nazuki’s small face froze for a moment, her expression gradually turning cold. Slowly rising from the piano, her pallor invoked concern.
"Take me there." she commanded, her eyes frosty void of warmth, mirroring the demeanor Hayakawa Kashi once projected.
