Chapter 57: Chapter 57- Anger, Lust, Greed, Ego (2)

’Friends?’

A simple thought repeated itself in Ytrisia’s mind as she walked alongside Cruxius through the hospital hallway. His pace was hurried, heading toward the elevator after they both safely landed from the hoarding board.

Behind his stride, she silently wondered if Darithi had already reached outside the dean’s office to secure his safety.

As they approached the lift, Cruxius stepped in first and then stood silently behind her once she entered—not a coincidence.

He said nothing, and neither did she.

She was staring ahead, and he was looking at her tight, curvy ass.

Unbeknownst to his perverted gaze, she focused on his earlier words and couldn’t shake the strange, unspoken feeling they stirred.

Just that evening, she had found out he was stalking her. A few hours later, he had used his family’s influence to pressure her into going on a date. And now—just like that—he claimed they were just friends.

Something about this entire situation—or perhaps about him—was clearly off.

Standing in the confined space of the lift, Ytrisia felt the need to address it.

Maybe this was all just a misunderstanding that needed to be cleared up before it grew worse.

She turned slightly to face him. He stood calmly behind her—composed, hands in pockets, seemingly indifferent to the attack he’d just suffered from a superhero.

"Cruxius, I got a call from the Blac family’s butler," Ytrisia said, turning back to the front and closing her eyes.

She didn’t call the butler her godfather. Not now. That man acted more like the Blac family’s butler than a father figure—always following the orders of his young master.

"Sorry? Why?" Cruxius responded casually, pretending he hadn’t been paying attention—because he definitely wasn’t.

His eyes seemed fixed on her booty, spine, and waist, visually measuring her body shape.

He remained seemingly oblivious, even to the mention of the Blac family and their plans for a date.

There was a faint smirk forming on his face. As if he wanted her to bring it up, he played with her perception of his intentions just for this.

He confused her into not understanding who was right—she, who believed he made the butler call her; Darithi, who knew him too well to tell the truth; or he, who was oblivious to all this.

"...They called me to go on a date with you," Ytrisia said, not expecting him to react.

But he did.

How could he miss the chance?

’!?’

She felt his arm grip her suit from behind as he yanked her toward him, turning as their eyes met. His eyes, though, seemed focused on the result of her fabric getting tighter.

’Tch, curse that bra.’ He met disappointment as there were no dots curved over the latex on those two soft mounds.

His expression shifted, visibly taken aback—making her wonder if he genuinely hadn’t known.

Though he was taken aback, it was by his disappointment at not seeing her small, cute two cherries—though she thought otherwise.

Her gaze lingered, searching his face for a trace of sincerity.

She just wanted some clarity, some understanding. Things were already complicated enough between them.

"What!? Are they kidding me?" Cruxius blurted out, now focusing on the matter at hand as he grew bored.

Bored and seemingly casual, he let his perverted side fill the emptiness as he tried to forget the pain assaulting his body. He jumped from a building and was lifted by his neck before being thrown onto the floor—all as a normal human.

The best medicine to forget all this, especially the anger born from pain on Eventide, was to act perverted a bit.

Anger, Greed, Lust, Ego—all these four emotions are supreme.

So, whenever one tries to control his senses, he switches on the other one.

In the end, killing Eventide out of anger might make things worse for him, so it’s best to toy with Ytrisia using his lust.

He immediately pulled out his phone and dialed a number. The call connected in seconds. Instead of holding it to his ear, he switched it to loudspeaker.

Would Ytrisia question why he put it on speaker?

Who knows?

// Greetings, Young Master. How may I be of help to you? //

A calm, respectful voice came through the speaker. There was no mistaking it—Ermond, the butler of the Blac family.

"Butler-in-law," Cruxius said with a half-laugh, ignoring the frown Ytrisia shot him for referring to her godfather with that strange title.

"Do you know what you just did?"

// Due to the effects of aging, I might be facing some difficulties with my memory. I would appreciate it if you would tell me exactly what I did. //

"Why did you tell Ytrisia to go on a date with me?" Cruxius said firmly, his voice laced with slight anger, intending to clear Ytrisia’s doubts about whether he had ordered Ermond to arrange the date.

’...Was he really not the one?’ And, to her surprise, Ytrisia, hearing his voice and watching him, felt doubt that maybe she had wrongly suspected him.

From his tone, it appeared he really wasn’t the one who ordered Ermond regarding this marriage thing.

// The head of the family gave strict instructions for you to date her, young master. //

Soon enough, the polite voice of the butler turned into a more composed one, as if firmly telling a child to follow the words of an elder.

"What the...? Has that old man gone senile?" Cruxius frowned.

// Cough. Young master... that’s— //

It appeared the butler was taken aback but did not argue about the matter. After hearing how the head of the family ordered him to overwork, he too doubted that the man had gone insane.

"Cruxius..." Ytrisia seemed surprised, hearing such a tone from him, watching as visible anger formed on his face, his jaw clenched.

"Why the hell would he think she could ever love me?!" Cruxius snapped, clearly berating himself, if only slightly, as though he’d get enough chances to settle this score later. For now, he acted as if he was undeserving of her.

"Come on, you old men—" click. He cut the call, ruffling his hair in frustration and shoving the phone into his pocket in anger.

"That idiot... can’t he understand his own son has a problem?" Cruxius shook his head in defeat as the doors of the lift slowly slid open.

"What do you mean—" Ytrisia, looking at him, was about to inquire why he made it sound as though their relationship couldn’t work because he was unworthy. As if they could never be together because of his own inadequacies.

However, before she could finish her words, the open elevator revealed a bloodied figure.

It was a fleeting moment when her amethyst eyes caught sight of a clearly wounded man. Behind him stood Darithi, approaching the lift, while the man tried to escape into the elevator—just before his eyes met hers.

No, more precisely, they met Cruxius’s.

"Leave me!" Alvian, head stumbling, was trying to run into the elevator. But as the door slid open, he came face-to-face with the man who had done this to him. His eyes widened, terror seizing his heart.

"—Augh!—y-you, you monster!"

Alvian’s feet clearly hesitated, retreating back due to fear. However, his pupils trembled the moment he spotted that devilish smirk on Cruxius’s face as he rolled his eyes before, without letting words come out, molding his lips enough to tell him the word Cruxius taunted:

:: Idiot ::

"Argghh! I will kill you!"

Swish

Before Ytrisia could wrap her head around what was happening, the guy covered in blood lunged at Cruxius like he was out for blood. His hands tightened as he swung directly at him.

And Cruxius?

He had two options:

Either get punched, degrade himself for a woman, and appear pitiful,

Or knock out Alvian, make him unconscious, and use this opportunity to blame everything on Eventide’s morphing ability.

What would he choose?
