Chapter 54: Chapter 54- A Rat?
"Kurgh!" With a sudden crash, the window shattered—shards scattering like glass rain—as a powerful hand clamped around his neck, lifting him clean off the ground. The grip was vice-like, crushing and precise. He gasped, hands clawing at her arm, struggling to breathe.
"Cruxius!" Ytrisia’s voice cut through the tension, sharp with alarm, as the moonlight illuminated the intruder from the side.
Cruxius squinted through the sting of glass dust in the air—and froze.
And then he saw her.
Goddamn.
A mature beauty.
Not some armored tank or tactical getup—she wore a short, tight skirt that barely covered her thick ass.
Black thigh-high boots hugged her long, meaty legs. Her top was practically painted on, cleavage front and center, bouncing with every breath. No padding, no shame.
Just tits out and proud—heavy, firm, practically spilling out with every subtle move. Her waist was tight, hips wide, body built like a wet dream on steroids.
Cruxius’s eyes locked onto her curves, slowly moving up to her face—long hair, yellow eyes, turning toward him and widening as if she knew what he was about to say. With a smirk, he quipped, "Ytrisia, don’t be jealous, but she’s got more meat than you."
BANG!
’Tch. What a jealous woman’, Cruxius thought as the world began to slow down and flip upside down.
The superheroine who had grabbed his neck blurred from his vision as if she had been hit by a speeding car.
His body remained mid-air before crashing hard to the floor.
Thud
Swoosh
A wave of energy surged through the room, hurling documents into the air and rattling the very floor beneath them.
Cruxius realized Ytrisia had just punched the beauty—whose face he couldn’t remember.
He was pretty sure he’d remember someone like her.
"...What are you doing here?" With a cold glare, Eventide turned to Volta—the superhero she instantly recognized by her purple hair with hints of blonde, betraying her identity.
Eventide was clearly caught off guard. She had tracked the message source to this location and burst through the window, ready to interrogate the man.
But before she could act further, the one who attacked her was none other than another estranged superhero.
"It should be me asking that," Ytrisia shot back, narrowing her gaze. She glanced toward Cruxius, now on the ground, holding his neck.
The attack was a clear violation—especially coming from someone affiliated with the Hero Association. Volta met her glare with equal intensity.
The Hero Association enforces a mandatory training program for all heroes—two years of courses covering everything from abilities and gates to monster encounters.
During that time, Volta and Eventide had been batchmates.
Volta chose the Blac family’s subsidiary; Eventide vanished for several years before returning and joining the Association.
This wasn’t their first meeting.
But the situation was now crystal clear: Eventide had just attacked Cruxius with lethal intent.
It was no longer just confusion—this was a cold confrontation.
Either way, neither of them was very close, given their rivalry due to being first and second rank power holders.
"It’s none of your business," Eventide snapped, her eyes glowing as she shifted energy in preparation for another move.
But sensing Volta’s growing power as she seemed to absorb the kinetic energy produced by her body, which was about to tremble at the molecular level, she retracted her hand.
"It is now. You dared attack the heir of the Blac Corporation just like that," Ytrisia stated firmly. She didn’t understand why Cruxius had covered his face, but after her words, she saw him facepalm in frustration—as if she had just ruined something.
’!?!’
"Wh-what?" Eventide’s voice trembled in disbelief at Volta’s revelation. She had been ready to fight or take the man away, but now... Now she was stunned.
’Even you, Ytrisia?’ Cruxius sighed in defeat and began to unwrap the cloth from his face.
He had carefully covered his appearance to avoid recognition—knowing full well that superheroes, given their reflexes and recent exposure to his press conference, would otherwise recognize him and instantly stop if they were to suddenly attack him.
This would eliminate any mishap when he wanted them to make a mistake.
And Ytrisia had just thrown a wrench into all of it—just like Darithi earlier, who had outed him as Ytrisia’s "stalker."
Still, he wasn’t too disappointed.
The superhero he thought would be some bulky guy turned out to be a ridiculously hot woman in an outfit more suited for a strip club than a battlefield.
"Y-you..." Eventide’s voice faltered as she stared at Cruxius. Seeing his face shocked her to her core.
She hadn’t expected to attack the heir of the Blac family.
’No... what have I done?’ Her yellow pupils trembled. Even now, the memory of the press conference and her sudden attack painted a damning picture.
The realization of her mistake dawning on her.
She could already see the media headlines:
"The Hero Association attempts to assassinate the Blac family heir, who pointed out the atrocities committed by the association. Is this an era of dictatorship, or are we humans just insects?"
Forget headlines—the repercussions would be massive.
And all of it was her fault.
In the worst case, she would be thrown out of the association to calm the anger of others, making all her efforts go in vain.
’No, I cannot leave the association like this—’
’...What the hell is this rat doing here?’ Cruxius’s eye twitched as a familiar interface appeared before him. In disbelief, he looked towards the woman whom he now recognized.

"B-but that phone—" Eventide tried to clarify the misunderstanding while having a small doubt about how that phone, which should have been with the man who sent the message, was present on Cruxius, but he cut her off.
"So, the Hero Association did send someone after me, huh?"
