Chapter 67: Chapter 66: Does the Princess Want to Marry?
"Oh, all right."
Rong Huan pouted slightly, somewhat displeased, but still followed the instructions.
Huo Cheng trailed behind her, and as they stepped forward together, their elongated shadows cast by the sun intertwined on the ground, mysteriously harmonious.
"It’s terrible, it’s terrible, something’s wrong with the Princess!"
The maid Xingguo rushed in from outside the hall, her face extremely panicked. After entering the hall and spotting Rong Huan, she ran over and knelt before her with a thump.
Rong Huan put down her brush, poured a cup of water and pushed it toward her: "What has happened to make you so rushed?"
Xingguo picked up the cup and gulped down the water, then coarsely wiped her mouth with her sleeve and spilled out what she had just heard: "The neighboring country wants to propose marriage to our Princess, and the Crown Prince of that country has seen your portrait and fallen in love at first sight, wanting to marry you as his Crown Princess Consort."
"Ah?"
Standing at the doorway, Huo Cheng straightened up a bit upon hearing this, and discreetly glanced at Rong Huan.
Xingguo continued, "But, it is said that the Crown Prince is debauched and extremely lustful, currently having five or six concubines, and his eldest illegitimate son is already six years old. Moreover, there is fierce internal strife in their royal family. This marriage proposal, while seemingly aimed at reinforcing friendly relations between the two nations, is actually to solidify his own position as Crown Prince."
Rong Huan’s immediate reaction was to look towards Huo Cheng standing at the doorway. At that moment, as the sun set, Huo Cheng stood against the light at the door, the setting sun outlining his figure smoothly and clearly, yet Rong Huan could not discern his expression.
She lowered her eyelids slightly, and said calmly, "I understand, you can go out now."
Xingguo hesitated for a moment but looked at Rong Huan, who smiled faintly at her: "I’m hungry, go to the kitchen and bring me something to eat."
"Oh."
Once Xingguo had left, Rong Huan called out, "Huo Cheng."
"Mm."
The same as any other day.
Rong Huan beckoned, "Come here."
Huo Cheng paused, then walked over.
Rong Huan pointed to the seat opposite, "Sit."
But Huo Cheng did not sit down, Rong Huan frowned, reached up, and pulled his wrist down, "I told you to sit, are you deaf?"
Unable to resist her, Huo Cheng sat down opposite her.
Tension filled the air around them, and it was Rong Huan who broke the silence first. Blinking at him, she asked bluntly, "Do you want me to marry the Crown Prince of Li Country?"
Huo Cheng: "Do you want to marry, Princess?"
Rong Huan, unsatisfied with Huo Cheng’s response, retorted, "I’m asking you if you want me to marry, why are you throwing the question back at me?"
"This concerns the relations between two countries; your servant shouldn’t answer."
Rong Huan nearly boiled over with frustration at Huo Cheng’s intractability, a fire rising fiercely in her heart. She pointed to the door, "Get out."
Huo Cheng lowered his eyelids slightly, bowed and rose from the cushion, and walked out.
Seeing that he really didn’t linger at all, Rong Huan’s eyes widened in disbelief. She grabbed a teacup from beside her and hurled it at his back.
The teacup struck Huo Cheng’s back, stopping him in his tracks. He turned around, bewildered, looking at Rong Huan, who defiantly said, "What are you staring at? I was aiming at you."
"Okay, cut."
Director Zhang’s voice carried through the megaphone across the entire set.
Wen Qiao shook her slightly long sleeves, propped herself up from the cushion, not asking the director how her performance had been.
