Chapter 142: Chapter 141: A Bargain Husband Not Used is Wasted
After hanging up the phone, Li Qing breathed a sigh of relief, as if a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. She walked back to Jiang Wei’s side, "I’ve thought of a way. Just relax and finish shooting today’s scenes well. I’ll go and ask the director for a leave on your behalf. You’ll take tonight’s flight back to Jiang City."
Jiang Wei looked up at her, her furrowed brow still not relaxed, "Going to do what?"
Li Qing smiled mysteriously, not answering her question, and pulled her up from the couch to push her into the bathroom, "Go brush your teeth and wash your face. Focus on shooting well today and don’t think about anything else. Leave everything to me."
-
"Director, your lunch box."
Director Zhang was sitting behind the monitor, carefully checking for any issues with the scene that had just been filmed when he heard a female voice behind him. Shortly after, a lunch box appeared in front of him.
He turned around and saw Wen Qiao placing the lunch box and then stepping back a good distance.
"Why are you standing so far away?" Director Zhang frowned slightly, "You might as well shout to me from the ground beneath your tent."
"...."
Wen Qiao pursed her lips and played with the stray hair in front of her forehead, taking small, hesitant steps towards Director Zhang.
It wasn’t that she wanted to stand so far away; she just didn’t dare to get too close to Director Zhang.
His stern demeanor while filming reminded her too much of her high school homeroom teacher, her ultimate nightmare, the darkest mark on her fragile young heart.
Additionally, since she was forced into the role of the Female Lead, Director Zhang was particularly strict with her. Sometimes, he would just stare at her, and she would break out in a cold sweat.
Jiang Yao had booked a return flight to Jiang City for tonight, for three days, which meant they definitely had to ask the director for time off. She had intended to have Jiang Yao ask Director Zhang for leave, but the girl was even more reluctant to speak with him. As soon as she heard they had to ask for leave, she was faster to run away than anyone else.
True sisterhood—shared fears and all.
With no other choice, Wen Qiao had to step up to the challenge herself.
Wen Qiao was fully aware of her position as a late arrival. Recently, she’d been involved in an incident that caused a sudden cast change, and although it wasn’t her fault, she played a part in it. People tend to displace their anger. Though Director Zhang didn’t explicitly show it, Wen Qiao still had to tread carefully.
So she had chosen midday to bring Director Zhang his lunch, hoping to casually mention her request for a leave. That should do the trick.
"Director, I’d like to ask for some time off."
She had expected Director Zhang to scowl, chastise her for creating so many problems so soon after shooting started, as if to say, "How dare the Female Lead, with so many important scenes, ask for a three-day leave," and so on.
Because Jiang Yao had told her, while Director Zhang seemed approachable normally, when it came to filming, he became utterly unyielding, as if possessed. He once had a movie with a major male lead, and the Female Lead, who didn’t have many scenes, wanted two days off. Director Zhang had told her to leave the set.
Wen Qiao had it all planned out. If Director Zhang refused her, she would have Fu Jinghen communicate with him.
After all, why waste a husband, even if he’s just for show?
But Director Zhang just gave a noncommittal "hmm" and then turned back to monitoring the footage.
Wen Qiao: "?"
Was it really that easy?
He wasn’t going to lecture her?
