Chapter 127: Chapter 126: Visit the Set
"Enough, don’t talk about it anymore." Jiang Yao’s heart ached, "How would you know if you never tried?"
Wen Qiao: "..."
Suddenly, I find your reasoning quite compelling.
"It’s really unexpected that President Fu looks so... but actually turns out to be so..." Jiang Yao sympathetically patted Wen Qiao’s hand, "You’ve been wronged."
"Actually, it’s not that—"
"Even though President Fu isn’t great in that aspect, it’s okay, he’s rich, good-looking, and high-status, already way ahead of most men." Jiang Yao’s tone shifted, "Being with him, you’re not at a loss."
Wen Qiao felt it was time to drop the subject and reminded aloud, "We should head to the set."
"Right, right, we should hurry, don’t be late."
Watching Jiang Yao’s flustered departure, Wen Qiao sighed.
President Fu, it’s not that I don’t want to explain for you, but I’m truly powerless.
Please don’t blame me.
The scene to be shot today was about the severe drought in the south. To stabilize public morale, Prince Jing was preparing to send the Crown Prince to survey the situation in his stead.
After Huo Cheng learned of this news, he schemed to have Princess Rong Huan take him along.
Director Zhang was highly efficient. The actor playing Prince Jing arrived at the set today, an experienced thespian with a kind and benevolent appearance.
Wen Qiao greeted the senior actor before heading for make-up.
After several days of adjusting, the cooperation among the crew had improved, especially between the two leads, Wen Qiao and Ye Shengnan.
Ye Shengnan, who had recently won the Best Actor award, was naturally impeccable in his acting.
Wen Qiao was a newcomer. Although his acting was still somewhat unpolished, he gradually matured under Ye Shengnan’s guidance.
Once they had finished make-up and hair, Director Zhang started filming.
Huo Cheng sat on the palace steps, staring at the distant city walls, lost in thought.
When Princess Rong Huan came out and saw Huo Cheng’s silhouette, she felt inexplicably forlorn. Picking up her skirts, she walked over and sat beside him.
"Huo Cheng," she called out softly.
"Hmm?" Huo Cheng came back to his senses, saw that it was Princess Rong Huan, and stood up to bow. But she stopped him.
"I’ve told you before, when it’s just the two of us, you don’t have to treat me as a princess."
Huo Cheng, unusually, did not insist and they sat side by side.
A while later, Princess Rong Huan asked, "Huo Cheng, is something troubling you?"
Huo Cheng didn’t immediately answer, and Princess Rong Huan wasn’t in a hurry. She rested her head on her knees, breaking off a twig and mindlessly doodling something in the dirt.
After a moment of silence, Huo Cheng turned and saw that she had written his name.
He smiled slightly, "Is the Princess writing my name?"
Princess Rong Huan then realized her subconscious act and, flustered, smeared Huo Cheng’s name away, her voice stiff, "No, you saw it wrong."
"Is that so?"
"Yes, you saw it wrong!"
The smile on Huo Cheng’s face grew as he watched her ears turn red with shyness. Unconsciously, he raised his hand wanting to touch them but stopped himself last minute, the smile fading.
After a while, he spoke again, "Have I ever told the Princess that my hometown is in Zhezhou?"
Princess Rong Huan turned to him, startled.
Zhezhou, the place hit hardest by the drought, faced famine, the people’s suffering was indescribable, refugees scattered in all directions.
Looking at Huo Cheng’s forlorn profile, Princess Rong Huan felt an oppressive discomfort in her heart.
She had heard before that Huo Cheng’s parents died because of the famine caused by the drought.
