Chapter 65: Six against one – the absolute power of a god-like being

Hakuto, Chantal, Akashi, Itsu, Shin, and Rika.

Six against one.

And yet, despite their numbers, they know they’re the ones trapped.

The ones at a disadvantage.

Drakhul’s devastating power is proving to be something far beyond their reach.

And his immunity to the Sacred Flame only makes things even worse.

Hakuto breathes a sigh of relief upon seeing his father not only emerge alive and well from the house but already ready to join the battle against a monster infinitely stronger than anything they’ve ever faced.

Just seeing his father standing there is enough to calm Hakuto’s heart.

Even though deep down, he knows it all too well—even the legendary Shin Tendo can do little against someone like Drakhul.

And yet, there he is, stretching his arms and legs with nonchalance, as if getting ready for some casual sports event.

Akashi stares at him, a strange mix of awe and a hint of admiration flickering in his eyes.

Shin Tendo isn’t just known on Earth.

In fact, it’s even more famous on N’Raeth.

News of the countless massacres he’s carried out—eliminating demons and other overwhelmingly powerful beings—has spread across worlds.

His name became a warning.

A legend.

Something mothers would whisper to their young to make them behave:

«Keep being naughty and Shin Tendo will come take you away!»

In short, he’s the boogeyman of the demon world.

Akashi suddenly dematerializes into swirling petals of red energy—they spiral toward Shin at incredible speed.

Drakhul doesn’t wait.

He reacts immediately, charging in that direction with a feral burst of power.

But just as he moves, Itsu appears in front of him, blocking the way.

He intercepts the undead’s charge head-on.

But it’s not enough.

Drakhul leaps high into the air—a fast, sudden jump.

Itsu had braced to take a hit, muscles tense and ready.

He didn’t expect Drakhul to jump over him.

But the undead is intercepted midair—Rika slams into him.

The mist of glowing violet and red particles always surrounding Rika in her demonic form thickens.

It becomes dense—solid like a wall.

Drakhul crashes into it like an unstoppable train.

And shatters it as if it were nothing.

But that brief impact slows him down—just enough for...

–SWISH!

Chantal’s massive blade of blood-colored metal slams into Drakhul’s right arm.

Hakuto’s diamond-forged sword strikes the left.

They attack from both sides, perfectly in sync.

But even with all the strength behind their strikes, the blades barely pierce his rotting flesh.

Just the faintest, hair-thin scratch.

Suddenly, Drakhul spreads his arms wide.

The blades of Hakuto and Chantal shatter, exploding into countless fragments.

Both are left staring in disbelief.

Only the hilts remain in their hands.

Rika draws sharp arcs of energy with her index finger—they slice through the air, one after another, striking Drakhul.

But they vanish on contact, leaving behind only superficial scratches.

Itsu, still beneath them, leaps upward.

He joins the fray to support his companions.

A sharp, orange bone spear extends tightly in his hand.

He aims to impale Drakhul from below.

But a violent burst of flame and energy explodes from Drakhul’s body—it blasts Rika, Hakuto, Chantal, and Itsu far away.

Their bodies are flung through the air, landing violently after flying for several meters.

Now they lie sprawled on the ground.

Itsu’s Innatus form absorbed just enough of the blast to let him stand up right away.

Hakuto and Chantal follow, a second later, with more effort.

Only Rika remains motionless, lying on her back.

She tries to stand, but her legs give out, collapsing beneath her.

She crashes back down, out of strength.

Drakhul prepares to strike again, but suddenly, he freezes.

His hands go to his neck.

Akashi’s dagger is still embedded there, and it’s spreading.

The roots are expanding throughout his entire body.

Despite the Corrupted Flame trying to resist, they keep growing, like roots searching for nourishment in the soil.

That’s when Drakhul finally notices them.

Drakhul can’t feel pain.

That’s why he hadn’t noticed the roots earlier.

A normal being would be writhing in agony by now.

Meanwhile, Akashi has already reappeared beside Shin.

«Shin Tendo, the legendary Monster Reaper who’s slaughtered more of our kind than anyone else in human history... kinda strange seeing you fight for the lives of two vampire succubi.»

Shin simply shrugs.

«Let’s just say it’s my way of making up for past sins...

And to make sure a certain imprisoned entity never sees the light again.»

Akashi smiles faintly.

«Normally, I’d be shocked to hear a human say something like that.

Only the highest ranks of the cult know how to awaken Nyratalir.

But you’re Shin Tendo... so I guess nothing should surprise me.»

«The Eye of the Fallen One, huh? So that must be... Drakhul Volkom?»

Shin narrows his eyes, shaking his head.

«Unbelievable that someone managed to bring him back. I was hoping that mess had been buried for good, millennia ago...»

«Seems the rumors about you aren’t just rumors after all. You know N’Raeth better than most who actually live there.» Akashi replies, genuinely impressed.

«So, any ideas? I managed to plant my dagger inside him—it constantly drains his energy. But his power is so immense that what I’ve taken so far is barely anything. Still, we just need to immobilize him for one second. That’s all I need to finish him,» Akashi explains.

Shin grows pensive.

The Sacred Flame flares up from his body, hotter than before.

Akashi steps back instinctively to avoid getting burned.

Even Shin’s white flame sword grows longer and thicker.

Akashi eyes him with a puzzled look.

«You do realize the Sacred Flame is useless against someone wielding Corrupted Flame like his, right?»

Shin shakes his head.

«That’s true, but not entirely.

Just like Corrupted Flame cancels out the Sacred Flame, the reverse is also true. They nullify each other, and the stronger one wins. In this case, the balance tips in his favor.

But if the two kids and I pour all our energy into it, he’ll have to burn just as much to counter it. And with that dagger you mentioned—draining him bit by bit—we might weaken him enough to give you that one second you need.»

«Sounds insane... but I don’t think we have a better option,» Akashi mutters.

Then Shin cups his hands like a megaphone and shouts:

«HAKUTO! CHANTAL! UNLEASH YOUR SACRED FLAME! WE HAVE TO HIT HIM TOGETHER!»

Hakuto and Chantal exchange a puzzled glance.

Akashi had told them using that power would be a waste.

But they obey immediately.

Their trust in Shin outweighs any doubt.

Suddenly, their bodies erupt in brilliant, white flames—Chantal’s tinged slightly pink from her vampire blood.

They wait, eyes locked on Shin, ready to move at his signal.

Drakhul isn’t far.

He’s holding Itsu by the skull-shaped helmet, lifting him off the ground.

The helmet begins to crack under the pressure.

Then, a punch straight to the chest.

Itsu is launched like a bullet.

He crashes to the ground.

His Innatus-form’s protection shatters.

Blood pours from his mouth and nose.

A sharp pain in his chest nearly stops his breath.

He lies motionless in a pool of blood.

Shin gives a small hand gesture—

Then charges at Drakhul, flames trailing behind him and scorching the ground.

His sword is raised, ready to strike.

Hakuto and Chantal follow.

Shin attacks head-on.

Hakuto and Chantal strike from the sides.

The Corrupted Flame blaze around Drakhul as the three blades collide with him.

«That old man was right...»

Akashi murmurs as he watches.

The Sacred Flame surrounding the three humans fades, moment by moment.

And so does Drakhul’s.

Akashi lunges forward—his hand stretched out.

«Blood Word lv.4: Deathorns!»

Massive, sharp spikes burst from the ground beneath Drakhul, piercing his limbs and halting his counterattack.

Drakhul releases an even greater surge of energy.

He shatters the massive spikes summoned by Akashi.

Almost all of the Sacred Flame from the three is extinguished in an instant.

But unleashing so much power forces him to lower his inner defenses.

The dagger’s roots spread wildly inside him, bursting from his mouth, piercing muscle and bone.

It’s not the pain.

It’s not the energy drain.

It’s the dense, tangled mass of roots inside his body that makes movement nearly impossible.

The fuchsia flames are sucked back into his body—a desperate attempt to burn away the roots.

But he’s too late by a second.

Akashi reaches him—hand stretched toward Drakhul’s face.

His fingers wrap around the violet eye with a white cross-shaped pupil—The Eye of the Fallen One.

Akashi’s hand tightens.

He presses deep into the socket.

Then...

–SQUISH!

He rips the eye out with all his strength.

At that moment, the fuchsia flames vanish completely.

With nothing blocking them anymore, the white flame-covered swords of Hakuto, Shin, and Chantal finally strike true.

Shin slices off Drakhul’s head.

Hakuto cleaves him across the chest.

Chantal cuts through his thighs.

The undead’s body splits into three parts, burning as they fall.

They crumble into ash, scattered by the wind.
