My Soul card is a Reaper -
Chapter 782 - 782: The world of Irth (part-48)
Uriel frowned and gave another look at Tellus. The latter spoke. "The orders are absolute. The Supreme Angel will not revive."
Adam took a step forward, the air around him crackling with power as he shot the zodiac sealing technique onto Tellus. This seal didn't have ten zodiac runes, but instead, there are twelve in number. "The Supreme Angel is the matter of Angels, not you, Azrael," Adam said coldly. "You killed my disciple, the daughter of an Archangel, and the future Supreme Angel. You will pay the consequences for that.
Uriel, still standing at a distance, watched the scene unfold, his expression unreadable. He had known Adam would arrive, but not this quickly, much less the fact that he hadn't anticipated such a swift and effective response. The power of the Zodiac seal was formidable, and even Uriel, with all his wisdom and foresight, had to admit that he didn't have an answer for that sealing technique as it locks down any Archangel. It is the power bestowed by their Creator onto Adam, specifically to anchor down the Archangels.
Adam, now standing over Tellus, glanced at Uriel. "Anyway, I will handle him from here onwards."
The Reaper sighed, seeing the sudden turn of events. "If only Azrael had acted a tad bit earlier and listened to my words, this wouldn't have occurred, as by then the Jewel of Light would have been a part of his body. Now… I can only see terrible events in Azrael's future, and with hope of saving him is only like one in every ten events. Nevertheless, worst comes to worst, I will have to release the protos source and take him away."
Azzy stood frozen, his eyes locked on Claire's lifeless form in Adam's arms.
Tears flowed freely down his cheeks, each drop a manifestation of the torment he felt. His hands clenched into fists at his sides, but he couldn't bring himself to move. The world seemed to blur around him, and only the image of Claire's lifeless body remained in sharp focus.
The Reaper's voice echoed faintly in the back of his mind, but it felt distant, muffled by the weight of his sorrow. "Azzy, you've done what needed to be done," the Reaper said, but Azzy could barely hear the words, his mind consumed with anguish. "This isn't the end. There's more at play here, but right now, you need to face the consequences of your actions."
**
Sometime later, at Silver City, Realm of Elysium;
Azzy's heart pounded against his chest as he stood in the center of the grand colosseum, golden chains rattling around his wrists.
The ancient stone walls of the arena echoed with the murmur of thousands of angels, seated in the audience section. They were all here to witness his punishment.
Eleven Archangels sat in their towering thrones, some with curious gazes, while some were cold.
The crowd hushed as Azzy's eyes scanned the room, trying to catch a glimpse of his old teammates among the sea of angels.
While he couldn't find them, he saw Claire's disciple in the front row, whose face twisted with a mix of hatred and betrayal. She thought he was a close friend, but he ended up killing her master? Did he get closer to her in order to target her master, all along? She couldn't help but assume.
He was forced to his knees on the judgment platform, his mind and his gaze blank. The scene of Tellus killing Claire is still fresh in his mind, and he felt like he had been abandoned by fate.
Adam, sitting high on the god's throne, glared down at him, his voice booming across the colosseum.
"Azrael," Adam's voice echoed, "You stand here, accused of many crimes. Infiltrating Elysium is your first crime. Impersonating an angel is your second crime. Infiltrating the Knight Academy is your third crime. Infiltrating the God's Palace is your fourth crime. Abducting Claire in her most vulnerable state is your fifth crime. Killing her is your sixth crime, and stealing a fragment of our Creator's soul is your last crime. You have not only broken the laws of Elysium over and over again but also hurt the future of the entire Elysium to the point that no amount of forgiveness can redeem your sins."
Azzy didn't flinch, though every word hit him like a hammer. His head remained low.
"Do you have anything to say in your defense?" Adam demanded with an unyielding tone.
For a long moment, there was silence.
Azzy stared at the ground for a moment, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts. He wasn't sure what Adam wanted. Was he expecting him to plead? Azzy didn't know, but he never planned to. "I've got nothing to say." His voice was low in resignation. "If anything, I blame my own stupidity. I trusted the wrong people, and I paid the price. I realized too late."
In reality, he wasn't just talking about Uriel. He was also talking about the Reaper, lurking in the back of his mind, the one who had played him like a puppet. Azzy's hands clenched into fists, the anger bubbling inside him like molten lava.
As the silence stretched a bit further, Azzy's thoughts drifted back to something that had been bothering him for days. "I don't get it. In my future, Claire is alive... we're... married. We have a kid. But here? She's dead. Gone. And I'm the one who killed her."
Was his future destroyed, or the future self he met just someone from the destroyed timeline?
His real timeline can only be destroyed when he, himself, comes down from the future and changes some events and roots an alternate timeline. If such a case occurs, even more future himself comes down and erases the one who tried to change the timeline and reset the timeline.
And the one who can only bring someone from the destroyed timeline is himself.
Either one seemed impossible. So, it would only make sense if either that future timeline is still intact, and Claire could be revived somehow.
All of a sudden, a ray of hope ignited in Azzy's head. He didn't understand how he had never thought this way during the past 24 hours in his imprisonment at all. Perhaps it was because he was too sorrowful to realize the truth.
And that hope made him think of any way to escape. His connection to the sword of light had been severed after his soul orb was sealed. He doesn't want to trust the Reaper anyway, even to save himself. His master is worlds away. And he doesn't want to rely on Tellus either, the one who killed his love. In the end, the only thing he could depend on was the Protos' energy. He had to release the seal on the Protos' source and destroy the seal on his soul orb, summon the sword of light, and escape. He had to do all of these so quickly before they even realized it.
"Let's see how long you can keep me here," Azzy muttered under his breath, his determination solidifying with each passing second. "Because I'm getting out of here, no matter what, and look for a way to revive Claire. I need to wait for the right opportunity. It is when he strikes me and forcefully invokes the protection from Protos energy."
