My Servant System -
Chapter 1354 - 1353: Group Onslaught (17)
I only found myself distracted - by both the beauty of what had just happened as well as the intrigue Leone had just drummed up in me because of her actions - for but a moment, and after that moment passed I immediately looked towards Leone to tell her to destroy the Core.
That was what was keeping me from receiving a notification, and even without it I had a feeling in the back of my mind that was telling me this Dog Goddess was still alive, but apparently she had the same feeling I did since during my loss of focus she just eradicated the rest of the Dog Goddess' corpse.
Three swift and very loud blasts were unleashed as she turned the sand around her into glass, each explosion blowing away large portions of the monster and terraforming more and more of the desert we were standing on.
After the third there was nothing left behind besides a few specks of blood and the occasional scrap of flesh or chunk of bone, but even then she seemed to be determined to ensure that this ember breathing, fiery spear wielding monster was truly dead.
All of the scraps were burnt to a crisp as well, and before I could have really participated much more in this the thing was actually dead, which I knew when the chime in my head told me so... which could have also been tinnitus, given how many explosions had happened in a short time.
Or blood, cause I was probably bleeding internally considering how my head was still throbbing, or how I was swaying a little as I endured the wave of exhaustion that washed over me immediately.
Casting a few healing spells on myself and just idly watching Leone for a few seconds, I relished the bliss of having my mind go completely blank as it healed all of the bruising from earlier, that agony receding ever so slowly and leaving me feeling normal once again, which was actually blissful compared to what I remembered.
When my mind was finally back to functioning order I remembered that it hadn't been just the Dog Goddess that had been summoned, and thankfully Leone had just checked on me from afar before she too remembered that, heading off to go help Mom in the tail end of her own fight.
Where we had handled it with a slow start and an explosive finish, the Demoness had apparently bene consistently whittling her opponent down with cuts and burns, slowly picking the Serpent Goddess apart and having her reveal an opening not too far after Leone joined the fray.
It was another reminder of how potent the 'power of friendship' was since a terrifying sword and fire wielding warrior paired with a fire slinging mage that both had the capabilities to destroy a city made quick work of whatever was in front of them.
Who would have thought that a giant blade and an extensive array of magical missiles could turn a single target into a pile of bloody parts on the ground if given the chance to unleash themselves fully?
This was truly an unfair fight, and I imagine the boosts Leone was receiving with her special Vampire form was part of the reason everything had seemed so easy this entire time, so I was intrigued to find out what 'downsides' would come from this when we finally returned to camp.
Were there any aftereffects that I needed to worry about, or some kind of potential alteration to her mental state or personality that came from being in this form for so long and relying on its power for her continued survival?
So many questions and so little time - and so little brain power to be relegated to something for future me - was how I got myself out of my own problem, instead walking over towards the kneeling Serpent Goddess and watching as her head was lopped off before the two incinerated her.
I didn't need to verify that it was all over because the brazier did it for us, flaring to life again and showing off the orb that signified the completion of this wave, and at the end of that was the reward...
Immediately I doubled back and rushed over to the spot the Dog Goddess had once occupied, searching for her golden spear and immediately grabbing onto it as I rewarded myself with something extra, even if it weighed a whole lot more than I thought it might.
Dense didn't even begin to describe the thing, and the moment I tried to utilize my shoulder to support some of the weight I was carrying I actually felt the bones creak a little, giving me a momentary fright before I just settled into a more comfortable stance.
"We definitely cannot do another one. Too tired, drained and unprepared for anything else."
Mom looked like she wanted to a little about that, though after a moment - and a glance at Draka - she let out a reluctant sigh and nodded, grabbing the reward sheet and imprinting her mana into it to let the Trial know that we were prepared to leave.
As she passed it to me to do the same, I got to see that the reward for the 'wave' we had just completed was actually what I had wanted the whole time; it was a 'storage bracelet' that would definitely help out with our return journey, and it was extremely exciting to read.
We all got one too which made it even better, so I was very much looking forwards to having it in my hands when we were outside and done with this Trial, especially since my curiosity was taking over as I had to wonder how large the storage space was, what its limitations were, and just what kind of shenanigans I could get into now that I had it.
I mean, technically speaking - since I had never heard of one existing in this world, or at least to the point it was common knowledge - couldn't I begin stealing wholesale now?
Who would be able to catch me if the item they were looking for was just gone, and no one could tell that it was located within a bracelet of all things?
On the other hand I imagine the bracelet was enchanted with Space Magic, so it probably had a very potent mana signature that even the average person could pick up on... or maybe it wouldn't, but that was something I was going to have answered in just a few more moments time~!
