My Servant System -
Chapter 1352 - 1351: Group Onslaught (15)
Those thick chains of ice that had erupted out of those spires clung to the Dog Goddess, spreading across her skin and battling her flames as they held her in place, weighing her down and impeding her momentum.
Even as she unleashed a storm of fiery ash onto herself the chains held relatively strong, continuing to wrap around her and pull her towards the ground as the spell continued to feed off of itself to function properly.
It worked far better than I had intended, and whether that was thanks to the verbal component of the spell that I had tracked on as a whim or if it was just my genius coming through on the runic components that I had created oh so long ago... I was unsure, but I was certain of its current potency.
Anything that could take this oversized mutt and wrangle her down to the ground was an incredible spell in my book, but such a spell came with a cost, and that cost ended up being a large portion of the mana within my Core.
That and the newly formed mana pathways aching like hell as their overuse was made known to me, and this was clearly a mixture of not only growing pains but also the fact that I had been fighting for so long while using mana.
By my rough, very quick estimation that spell I had cost relied on roughly twenty percent or so of my total capacity, but I was already teetering around having sixty to seventy percent after everything that had happened, so I was definitely around half or so at this point in time.
The problem came entirely from just using that much all at once alongside said mana being spread across fresh pathways that hadn't really been used all that much yet, so for them to be 'broken in' via such a spell was obviously not the smartest thing to do.
But the result was one I was able to handle, just so long as I was given a few seconds to catch my breath and steady myself, which our canine headed opponent was so generous to give... thanks to the chains that pulled them towards the frozen sands.
"Never thought I would be the one to tell you that you need to work on your stamina, but... here we are."
Leone's mutter made me growl as I gathered myself again, something I immediately regretted thanks to the dull ache from the earlier headbutt; the Vampire just smirked at me before she went ahead and began to prepare a spell of her own while the Dog Goddess was chained down.
I thought she might go ahead and attempt to mimic me since it had clearly worked so well, but then I immediately remembered that I had a System backing me up - a System I was neglecting immensely - while she had only her natural given talents.
Which were high, don't get me wrong, but her talent with Incantations was still rather raw, so she stuck to what she knew and stared at the writhing, growling Dog Goddess as she showed off one of her more unique talents.
Layering one Ritual Circle within another, I immediately noticed that the smaller of the two - the one that was embedded into the other - was a darker, richer red that I just loved, while the larger one was the crimson I was accustomed to when dealing with her spells.
Two separate elements were being used here, with the Blood Mana she had been gifted thanks to her ancestry being embedded into a larger, more traditional fire spell, something that even the Dog Goddess could understand as she started to struggle against the chains even harder than before.
Each yank caused a spire to crack, each wave of burning ash melted some more of the frost spread across her black skin, her flames continued to fight against the chill as she sought out her freedom, but it seemed to be in vain as she remained where she was, kneeling and slowly having her arms pulled to the sides and then back.
Getting to my feet and gathering up my mana once more, I joined Leone as I swiftly prepared an offensive spell, wanting to take advantage of this opening that I had created so that we could kill this monster before she could cause any additional problems.
The flames she had enveloped herself in were a clear indicator that she had more left in her Core, and the control needed for such a raw and instinctual Mana Cloak was worrying, so I wanted to nip this problem at the bud before she decided to go ahead and blossom completely.
"Go first."
Leone's voice spurred me on as I went ahead and summoned a gigantic lance of ice, its spiraling tip giving it the ability to penetrate through her armor while the barbed, hooked cross bar beneath it would ensure that the moment it passed through her, I could yank it back and 'catch' her again.
So with my lover's permission I gave the lance a spin before hurling it forwards, aiming for center mass but accepting that the Dog Goddess was going to writhe around in hopes of escape, so I focused mainly on just getting it to land anywhere.
Watching it punch through her shoulder and sail cleaning through her body was satisfying, especially since it sent a wave of her blood cascading down onto the frozen sand, that red liquid sizzling against the ice before it turned into tiny crystals as it froze over completely.
For a split second I was distracted by the pretty crystals I had created, but I still yanked back on the lance and pulled it towards me, causing the barbed hooks to dig deep into her back and yank her forwards, drawing out a pained howl as she continued to writhe around in agony.
Encasing my legs in ice and pulling on the lance with my magic, I held the Dog Goddess in place and gave Leone an easier target, relishing the opportunity to assist in killing something as strong as this monster.
It was surely going to die the moment Leone hit it with this spell, right..?
