My Refrigerator Turned Into A Dungeon -
Chapter 303
Special Labyrinth Entry License Application 5: Skill Demonstration Interview
The battle has ended.
What unfolded in the world created within my heart was an intense and brutal battle of supreme mental strength. But in the end, I persevered and won, while the psychic old lady collapsed after spraying blood from her nose.
I'll keep the details of this battle under wraps.
However, if I had to mention one thing, it would be that my slime macho folder flared up. I'll just leave it at that.
The psychic old lady was carried off on a stretcher by the medical team, but before being taken out of the room, she blushed and gave me a thumbs-up, as if wanting to say, "That was a good fight..."
Seeing this, the male staff member in glasses who had taken over from the old lady looked at it and said...
"Ah, yes... seems like you're alright. Please move to the next interview room."
It appeared he took that as a sign of passing.
And so, I passed the first interview and managed to keep my secrets safe....
However, six men were waiting for me when I arrived at the second interview room.
Apparently, in the second round, it was 6:1. It wasn't the previous one-on-one style, but rather a format more like an entrance exam.
First, there were three scary-faced older men in suits sitting to the right. They were probably police officers or military personnel, glaring at me as if to intimidate. On the left were two government official types with cold expressions. These were probably people sent from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, clearly unmotivated and expressionless.
In the middle of these extremes was a man in a white coat, smiling gently, clearly out of place. He must be a doctor or a researcher, as he seemed completely different from the others.
"Well then, let's begin the interview. You are Egetsu Nakihito, correct?"
"Yes."
The man in the white coat, holding some documents, spoke to me, but I had to stand as there was no chair provided.
The situation was starting to feel like when I had to quit my previous job, making me feel uncomfortable. The floor was covered with thick rubber mats, and logs and iron bars were lying around.
Hmm… it looks like here they’re going to make me activate my abilities and directly observe them.
"Your skills are… [Salt], [Craft], and [Meditation]? That's quite an unusual combination."
"Are you kidding me?! There’s no way monsters in a dungeon would have skills like these!"
Despite the man in the white coat speaking calmly, scary-faced older man A immediately raised his voice and ruined the atmosphere. Ah, this feels like dealing with the manager from my last job.
"Well? I don’t know anything about that. I just had them when I realized."
"I see! So, you learned them on your own. That's quite rare, but it's not impossible."
"..."
I lightly dodged the question, but the man in the white coat responded without issue.
Perhaps irritated by this, the scary-faced man A fell silent. Hmm, maybe he got transferred to the Special Labyrinth Task Department against his will? Even if that’s the case, it’s still bad form to take it out on someone who isn’t involved in your situation.
"You won’t understand by just talking. Anyway, let’s see these skills."
"Alright, Egetsu-san. [Meditation], you’re able to meditate, correct? Please demonstrate it here."
Encouraged by the older man B, who seemed reasonable despite his stern appearance, I decided to show my skill.
"Understood. Activating skill [Meditation]! (…mmm)"
I calmed my mind, felt the flow of energy, and unlocked my chakra instantly.
"…Done. That was the skill [Meditation]."
"Are you mocking me?! You just closed your eyes!"
Now, scary-faced man A slammed the table and shouted.
Well, you might not have felt it, but if someone who could sense it had been here, they’d be thinking, “Wow, this guy’s chakra is fully open!!” and be seriously surprised. Hmmm, maybe this guy was also pushed out of the Self-Defense Force or something?
"Um, there doesn’t seem to be any other ability users here, does there? If that’s the case, you won’t be able to fully understand the skill, right?"
"Wh-what did you say?!"
"Oh, no, I also have a status. But I’ve never fought, so I probably look like a regular person."
"I see, so that’s the case."
Ignoring the noisy man A, I decided to talk only with the man in the white coat. It was probably better for both of us.
"Now then, please use your [Salt] skill."
"Alright. Let me spread some fine salt on the table."
I approached the conference table and sprinkled fine white salt onto the surface.
"How lame…"
"Ha~..."
Hey, I can hear you, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism.
And the scary-faced men clearly sighed in disappointment. But I’m not about to explain the full extent of my [Salt] skill to you. Feel free to think of it as a lame skill.
"Ho~! So this is the [Salt] skill? Wow, the particles are really fine!"
However, the man in the white coat was fascinated by the somewhat unimpressive [Salt] skill.
"Oh! This is delicious! This is really good salt!"
Ah, I see, you’re the type who wants to try everything. That’s very much the researcher vibe. I get it.
"Now, for the final skill, please show us [Craft]. Is there anything you need?"
"No, I’m fine. I’ll just use the salt to make a craft."
So I created a small salt castle the size of a palm. I didn’t have a specific model, but since I put a shachi (a fish-shaped ornament) on the roof, maybe it resembles Osaka Castle.
As soon as the scary-faced man C, who had been silent until then, saw it, he jumped out of his chair and yelled.
"What was that creation speed!? What did you just do?!"
"Huh? Creation speed? Well, that’s probably the effect of the [Meditation] skill."
Apparently, they were surprised at how quickly I could create and shape the salt. So I just played it off as the result of [Meditation].
"Can you make weapons with that salt?!"
Man C asked further. Hmmm, military types are always focused on weapons.
"Ah, well, I could probably make small ones…"
Before they could ask me to create a sword or spear, I quickly made a salt vajra modeled after the one Unkai-san gave me and handed it over.
Heh, how about that? It might look impressive, but they probably won’t know what to make of it.
"Hm… it’s hard…!"
"It’s heavy! This is comparable to quartz!"
"What?!"
But as soon as they touched something that looked like a weapon, the scary-faced men got all excited.
"Ah, I’m tired now. Hah… I’ve made two pieces, so can we call it a day?"
"Oh, of course. Can I keep these?"
"Yeah, go ahead."
"Thank you. Then the interview is over."
"Thank you very much."
Heh heh heh. I successfully escaped with my move, pretending to be the annoying junior coworker persona from one of my 48 personas. Well, both of them won’t be infused with much magic, so they’ll disappear completely in a couple of hours anyway.
