Farm Warrior

Under the gentle sunlight, the sprawling rural landscape unfolds.

Amid such peaceful scenery, a brutal slaughter was taking place. A tractor was running over goblins fleeing through the fields.

"Grandpaaa!"

"Wait, what?!"

At that voice, I couldn’t help but glance between Serai-san sitting in the passenger seat and the figure driving the tractor in the distance. It seemed that the one running over the goblins was Serai-san’s grandfather.

"Egetsu-san, hurry! Faster!"

"Got it! Leave it to me!"

With that, I pressed hard on the van’s accelerator to speed up.

However, even though the straight-line distance didn’t seem too far, the roads winding through the rice fields and farms made it hard to get closer quickly. Meanwhile, unfazed by our concerns, the person driving the tractor continued to slaughter goblins one after another.

"Hey, Coach, is that...?"

"Yeah, it’s that dog. It must’ve gained dungeon abilities."

Goblins are considered relatively weak. But even so, a goblin is still a monster, even if it’s a weak one.

They wouldn’t be so easily run over by a slow tractor. However, a dog, darting like an arrow, was cutting off the fleeing goblins’ paths, barking fiercely and pouncing on them. The goblins, frozen in fear from the dog’s momentum, were being crushed under the tractor.

The dog’s extraordinary mobility and its cleverness in guiding prey to the powerful tractor for the finishing blow—this was no ordinary dog. Yeah, there’s no doubt that dog gained abilities in a dungeon.

After what felt like a long time driving alongside the tractor, we finally arrived at the edge of the field where it was running. Serai-san, not caring about getting her shoes dirty, sprinted straight toward the tractor.

"Grandpaaaa!"

Perhaps noticing her call, the grandfather turned his face toward Serai-san and stopped the tractor.

"...Oh, if it isn’t Machi. What’s up?"

"Ugh! What’s up?! I was worried about you! And what are you even doing?!"

"Huh? Pest control. Those damn monkeys have been causing trouble lately."

"No, Grandpa! That’s not a monkey, it’s a dungeon monster!!"

As Serai-san pointed, the dog was voraciously eating a mountain goblin that had been run over by the tractor, while a sizable number of chickens had appeared out of nowhere, busily pecking at the scraps.

Hmm, what a wild scene.

"Wait, male and female...? A pair of monkeys?"

"Nooo! It’s not a monkey, it’s a goblin! Ugh!"

It seems explaining things to the grandfather will take some time.

……

And so, we finally arrived at Serai-san’s family home.

"Wow, it’s a big house."

"Yeah. It’s much larger than I heard."

Serai-san, who had returned home with her grandfather, opened the main gate from the inside. The house was much bigger than I had been told. The wall facing the road was high, and the distance from the gate to the house was about 30 meters.

As we drove into the property, we noticed a gentle slope, with the ground about 80 centimeters higher than the road.

Hmm, this must be for flood prevention. The elevation difference between here and the lowest field nearby must be around 4 meters. With just this, the place already feels like a fortress.

There were no neighboring houses, and on the side facing the fields and rice paddies, camellias were planted as a hedge.

Behind the wall was a spacious garden with enough room to park several cars. To the left, at the back, was a two-story modern house with solar panels on the roof. To the right was a large, traditional single-story old house.

The older one was the main house, and the newer one was built by Serai-san’s parents.

"You can park the car by the shed over there. There’s space."

"Got it. Moving forward slowly, then."

Following Serai-san’s instructions, I drove the car toward the shed opposite the main house.

The shed was made of blue corrugated metal and might have the largest footprint of any building on the property. It was two stories tall, with three high-performance, expensive-looking agricultural machines stored on the first floor.

"Welcome to my family home. Egetsu-san, Shizu, thank you so much for coming with me. I’ll introduce you to my grandpa now, so follow me."

Well, well, it’s great to see Serai-san’s grandfather in such good spirits.

But I never expected him to be running over goblins with a tractor. Truly, the land of farmers has been opened. It seems Serai-san’s grandfather was a farm warrior after all.
