Chapter 86: I haven’t seen her yet!
The room was in chaos.
Zhao Yan stood frozen, watching as the medical staff scrambled around Hua Jing’s convulsing body.
The woman who had checked on her just minutes ago was in a frenzy. She ran her hands over Hua Jing’s wrist, her expression twisting into frustration.
"I just checked her!" she exclaimed, her voice sharp with disbelief. "She was fine a moment ago! What happened?"
Another nurse, a younger woman standing near the door, looked equally bewildered. "No one has entered this room since you left," she said quickly. "I didn’t see anyone come in or out."
"That’s impossible," the first woman snapped, already moving to Hua Jing’s arm. Her sharp gaze landed on a tiny mark—just barely noticeable, a minuscule red spot near Hua Jing’s wrist. Her breath hitched.
Her eyes widened.
"Someone was here."
A hush fell over the room.
Zhao Yan felt a slow, burning fury coil deep in his chest.
The nurse raised her head abruptly. "Someone injected something into her."
The realization sent a ripple of shock through the others.
"Secure the entire ward! No one leaves this building!" she barked.
The nurses and doctors scrambled, the room erupting into panicked movement.
One of the men rushed out to alert security.
Meanwhile, the lead physician pressed down on Hua Jing’s chest, her hands moving in precise, rhythmic compressions.
"Come on, Hua Jing, breathe!" she urged.
Zhao Yan watched, helpless. His hands clenched into fists, his mind swirling with rage.
Why her? Who wanted her dead?
Was it the same in the other world?
Had someone been trying to kill her all along?
The anger boiled over.
Zhao Yan turned on his heel and stormed out.
His vision was blurred with fury as he followed the nurse who had run to report the attack.
He didn’t know why, but something in his soul pulled him toward the man.
And then—
A force yanked him forward.
Zhao Yan felt his body shift unnaturally, like being dragged into an invisible current.
Before he could react, he was inside.
Inside the nurse.
A sharp gasp tore through him as he suddenly felt weight, a heartbeat, breath in his lungs.
He was no longer just watching.
He was inside the man’s body.
The nurse stumbled mid-run, gripping the wall for support as something unfamiliar coursed through his veins—Zhao Yan’s spirit.
The nurse’s fingers twitched. His pulse pounded.
Then, Zhao Yan moved.
It was his body now.
He took control, forcing the nurse’s legs to keep running, even faster this time.
Several staff members looked at him in confusion as he sprinted through the hallway.
"What’s happening?" someone called out.
He didn’t stop.
Instead, Zhao Yan barked out in the man’s voice, "Someone attacked Hua Jing in the VIP ward! We need to find them now!"
A ripple of panic shot through the hospital.
People turned, whispering in shock.
The security officers at the reception area snapped to attention as Zhao Yan approached.
"We need to lock down the hospital!" he shouted, panting.
The guards exchanged looks of alarm, immediately reaching for their radios.
But Zhao Yan’s sharp eyes caught something.
A shadow moving near the exit.
The man.
The one who had injected Hua Jing.
He was slinking toward the doors, his posture tense, his steps quick but calculated.
Zhao Yan didn’t hesitate.
"That’s him!" he roared, pointing directly at the figure.
The officers hesitated. "Are you sure?"
"Yes! That’s him! Catch him!"
The moment Zhao Yan pointed, the suspect froze—his body stiffened.
His instincts must have screamed at him, because a second later, he bolted.
"Stop him!" Zhao Yan yelled.
But before anyone could react, he moved.
With strength that was not his own, fueled by his own burning rage, Zhao Yan forced the nurse’s body forward in an unnatural burst of speed.
He ran.
Faster than he should have.
People gasped as he launched himself forward.
At the last second, he leapt.
The world blurred as Zhao Yan threw his borrowed body at the fleeing man, tackling him to the ground.
A sickening crack echoed through the air as the impact sent them both skidding across the hospital floor.
Pain lanced through his knee, but Zhao Yan barely felt it.
His rage drowned it all out.
The man thrashed beneath him, cursing, trying to break free.
But Zhao Yan’s grip was iron.
With all his might, he drew back his fist and slammed it into the man’s face.
A sharp crunch followed.
The attacker groaned, his head snapping back from the force.
Zhao Yan didn’t stop.
Another punch.
Then another.
The man’s struggles weakened, his breath ragged.
Before Zhao Yan could land another blow, a security guard yanked him back.
"What are you doing? This is a hospital!" the officer snapped.
Zhao Yan, still inside the nurse’s body, struggled against the hold, his breath ragged.
But it was over.
The other officers had swarmed in, pinning the attacker down.
The syringe was pulled from his pocket—a clear, damning piece of evidence.
Zhao Yan breathed heavily, his vision swimming.
It was done.
The man had been caught.
But just as suddenly as the battle ended, Zhao Yan was pulled again.
A force yanked him up—ripping him from the nurse’s body.
His soul was light again, drifting aimlessly through the space.
His borrowed body stumbled, blinking in confusion.
"What... happened?" the nurse muttered, holding his own hands as if he no longer recognized them.
But Zhao Yan had no time to focus on that.
His essence shot upward, back toward the VIP wards.
He surged past the doors, past the woman who had been checking on Hua Jing.
He was heading toward her—
But something changed.
As he moved through the hospital, his form wavered.
A pull, stronger than before, dragged at him.
His weightless body grew heavier.
The air around him thickened.
And then—
A black void opened before him.
Zhao Yan tried to stop.
Tried to resist.
But he was already falling.
His soul was being pulled into something deep, something unknown.
A blinding light flashed before his eyes—
And his last thought was,
"No! I haven’t seen her yet!"
Then, the darkness swallowed him whole!
