Chapter 109: Did you fat idiots not hear me?
The cry pierced the stillness of the night once more, sharp and desperate, pulling Hua Jing forward like a moth to a flame.
She moved swiftly, her steps measured and silent, her body blending seamlessly into the darkness.
The moon hung high above, casting a pale silver glow over the labyrinth of narrow alleys and low-roofed houses that sprawled outside the palace walls.
Her robes blew with the wind and she felt like the main character of some costume drama that was about to air!
Thinking that, she made it even more dramatic!
The air was thick with the scent of damp stone and the faint murmur of distant voices, but Hua Jing’s focus was singular—she had to reach the source of that cry.
Because of the alcohol in her system, she had one thing I mind,
All flowers must be protected!
Who would dare hurt a flower?
If she found that person, she was going to make him regret being born!
The houses here were modest, their roofs tiled with rough stone slabs that glinted faintly under the moonlight.
Hua Jing’s movements were deliberate, her feet barely grazing the ground as she navigated the uneven terrain.
She could hear the woman’s cries growing louder, more frantic, and her heart pounded in response. She quickened her pace, her eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of trouble.
Finally, she reached a small open pathway, a narrow space between two rows of houses. Below, in the dim light, she saw them—five men, their figures hulking and menacing, surrounding a young woman.
The woman was dressed in simple, tattered clothes, her face pale with fear as she backed away from the men.
There was pure terror in her face and something told Hua Jing this was not the first time she had been like this.
These men, they looked like they often harassed her like this!
Even though she was simple, she was quite pretty and Hua Jing instantly knew what was going on in the brains of these men!
Her hands were raised defensively, her voice trembling as she pleaded with them to leave her alone.
One of the men, a burly figure with a sneer plastered across his face, stepped closer to the woman.
"Come on, little flower," he said, his voice dripping with mock sweetness.
"We’ve been protecting you all this time. Isn’t it only fair that you repay us?"
The woman shook her head vigorously, her eyes wide with terror. "I never asked for your protection!" she cried, her voice breaking. "Please, just leave me alone!"
Another man, shorter but no less intimidating, chuckled darkly. "You’re too pretty to be left alone," he said, reaching out to touch her cheek.
The woman recoiled, slapping his hand away, but the man only laughed harder. "Feisty, aren’t you? I like that."
The third man, who had been silent until now, stepped forward, his voice low and menacing. "You don’t have a choice, girl. Either you cooperate, or we’ll make you regret it."
The woman’s breath hitched, her back pressing against the wall as the men closed in around her. "Leave me alone!" she screamed, her voice echoing through the alley. "Someone, please help me!"
Hua Jing’s jaw tightened, her hands curling into fists. She crouched low on the roof, her eyes narrowing as she assessed the situation.
The men were drunk, their movements sluggish and uncoordinated, but there were five of them—and only one of her. She needed to be smart about this.
As the men continued to taunt the woman, Hua Jing’s voice cut through the night, cold and sharp. "That’s not the way to treat a lady, is it?"
The men froze, their heads snapping up as they scanned the darkness. "Did you hear that?" one of them asked, his voice tinged with unease.
"I heard something," another muttered, his eyes darting around nervously. "But... there’s no one here."
The third man scoffed, though his bravado seemed forced. "It’s just the wind. Stop being so jumpy."
The men hesitated for a moment, their eyes still searching the shadows, but when they saw nothing, they turned their attention back to the woman.
The burly man reached for her again, his grin widening. "Now, where were we?"
Hua Jing’s patience snapped. She stood up on the roof, her silhouette outlined against the moonlit sky. "I said something," she called out, her voice dripping with disdain. "Did you fat idiots not hear me?"
This time, the men couldn’t ignore her. They spun around, their eyes widening as they caught sight of her figure on the roof. "Who’s there?" the burly man demanded, his voice shaking slightly. "Show yourself!"
Hua Jing smirked, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Oh, I’m right here," she said, her tone light and mocking.
"But I don’t think you’re in any position to be making demands."
The men exchanged uneasy glances, their confidence wavering. The shorter one took a step forward, his voice trembling. "Who are you? What do you want?"
Hua Jing tilted her head, her smirk widening. "I’m just a passerby who doesn’t appreciate seeing women being harassed by cowards like you."
She could not believe that even in this world there were still people like this!
How annoying!
The burly man’s face turned red with anger. "You’ve got a lot of nerve, talking to us like that," he growled, taking a step toward the building. "Why don’t you come down here and say that to our faces?"
Hua Jing’s smile didn’t waver. "Oh, I’d love to," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "But I’m afraid I might hurt you."
Before the men could react, Hua Jing leaped from the roof, her body twisting gracefully in the air.
This was a dramatic entry and even she knew but she did not care because a flower needed saving!
Her body was fluid as she blended with the darkness.
She purposefully chose the darkness so that this people might not know who she was but remembering she was in a disguise already, she chuckled and dashed.
The men had no time to react before she was standing right in front of them with a silly grin.
"Now," she said, her voice calm but laced with danger, "who wants to go first?"
