Chapter 100: Your presence brings me bad luck!
Chapter 100: Your presence brings me bad luck!
Hua Ling’s smug expression faltered.
For a split second, just a mere fraction of a moment, hesitation flickered in her eyes.
Has she truly suffered?
Hua Ling wasn’t sure, but a small part of her imagined it.
A dark glint passed through her gaze, and she took a step closer.
Then another.
And another.
Her smile was sweet, but her words were razor-sharp knives.
"Were you waterboarded?" she asked, her voice silky smooth.
Hua Jing stiffened.
"Were your hands tied behind your back?"
Hua Jing’s fingers curled into her sleeves.
"Were your legs hit with a metal pipe?"
Xia Lin let out a sharp breath, looking at Hua Jing with concern.
"Was your hair pulled so much that your scalp bled?"
Hua Ling took another step closer, her breath almost brushing Hua Jing’s cheek.
"I guess not."
She laughed softly.
"And you call that torture?" she sneered. "This cannot even hold a candle to what my mother and I did to you at the Hua Mansion."
Hua Jing’s body went rigid.
Her mind raced, piecing together the memories of the original Hua Jing in this world, the torture, the pain, the inhuman treatment she had suffered.
Her heart pounded.
Rage—dark, seething rage—bubbled up inside her, filling every vein, every muscle, every inch of her being.
She clenched her fists, forcing herself to breathe evenly.
Her mind flashed with an image.
HuaLing’shead... bashedagainstthefloor, overandoveragain, untilnothingwasleft!
Until her mangled flesh mixed with the blood such that no one could even try to recognize her!
Her body shook with restraint.
No.
She couldn’t lose control now.
Not yet.
Revenge had to be meticulous. Calculated. Slow.
So instead, she did the one thing that would get under Hua Ling’s skin the most.
She smiled.
A slow, chilling smile that made Hua Ling’s confidence flicker for a brief moment.
"Your first mistake was allowing me to become the Seventh Consort," Hua Jing said softly.
Hua Ling’s brows furrowed.
Who in the world wanted Hua Jing to be the seventh consort?
She had tried to kill Hua Jing on the night of her honeymoon but this trash had survived!
"With this newfound power," Hua Jing continued, taking a single step forward, "I will ensure that the next time you see me, you will be on your knees."
Hua Jing cold already picture Hua Ling, on her knees and full of blood begging for forgiveness. She could not wait for that day to come!
Hua Ling laughed dryly, but there was an edge to it.
"On my knees? Because of you?"
"Yes."
Hua Jing turned to Xia Lin, her voice loud and clear.
"Xia Lin, tell me. What powers does the Seventh Consort have?"
Xia Lin perked up immediately, taking a step forward.
"The Seventh Consort holds authority over certain palace affairs," she began confidently.
Hua Ling scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"She has the ability to oversee matters concerning palace servants."
Hua Jing’s smirk grew wider.
"She also has the right to manage several estates granted by the royal family."
Hua Ling frowned.
Xia Lin wasn’t done.
"And the Seventh Consort—" she paused for dramatic effect, "has the favor of the Crown Prince himself."
Hua Ling’s face twisted.
Hua Jing let out a mock gasp, her hand coming to her lips.
"Oh my, did you hear that, dear sister?"
Hua Ling’s fingers trembled, her nails digging into her palm so hard they nearly drew blood.
But Xia Lin wasn’t finished yet.
"And if the Seventh Consort were to rise in favor, she could potentially be chosen as—"
"Enough!"
Hua Ling’s voice shook.
Xia Lin smirked slightly, satisfied that her words had done the damage they were supposed to.
But Hua Ling redirected her anger.
"You lowly servant," she hissed. "How dare you speak when others are speaking?!"
Hua Jing’s smile vanished instantly.
Her eyes darkened dangerously as she stepped in front of Xia Lin.
"Watch how you speak to her," she warned, her voice dropping to a deadly low tone.
Hua Ling snorted.
"You wouldn’t dare."
Hua Jing raised a single brow.
"Try me."
The two women locked eyes, the tension in the air suffocating.
Hua Jing’s voice lowered further, her words slicing through the air like a dagger.
"You saw for yourself just how much the prince likes me. Just how much he loves me."
Hua Ling stiffened.
"If one day I am to become Empress of this nation..."
The words hung in the air, heavy with unspoken meaning.
Hua Ling’s breath hitched.
Her heart pounded violently against her ribs.
The Empress?
No.
No, no, no.
This couldn’t happen.
This mustn’t happen.
She clenched her fists tighter.
"That’s if you become Empress," she spat bitterly.
Hua Jing tilted her head, her smirk returning.
"Don’t worry."
She leaned in, voice barely above a whisper.
"I will."
And with that, she turned away, her expression cool and composed.
"Now get the hell out of my courtyard."
Hua Ling’s face burned with rage, but before she could say another word, Hua Jing delivered her final blow.
"Your presence brings me bad luck."
Hua Ling’s breath caught in her throat.
Her entire body shook with unrestrained fury.
She wanted to scream.
She wanted to tear Hua Jing apart.
But the fear—the fear of what Hua Jing could become—was stronger.
So she did the only thing she could do.
She turned on her heel, her robes swishing behind her, and stormed out of the courtyard.
Her chest heaved, her eyes burning with anger.
This isn’t over.
Not even close.
And as she disappeared into the distance, Hua Jing let out a slow, satisfied breath.
A dangerous gleam flickered in her eyes.
"You’ll see, dear sister," she murmured. "You’ll see soon enough."
When she first came here, she wanted to leave immediately because of the absurdity of everything but now that things has already changed this much, she knew that things had to change!
The consorts who had made her go through torture yesterday and the Hua family, they had to pay for everything they did.
No mercy!
To do that, she needed to be one thing in this universe,
The Empress!
