My Players Are So Fierce – Handsome dog Frank -
Chapter 96 - 96 36D plan_1
96: 36.D plan_1 96: 36.D plan_1 As Murphy returned to Cardman City with the loot and survivors, the successful defense operation subtly altered many affairs.
In the Pioneer Fortress located in East Prussia, adjacent to Transylvania, a commander wearing the uniform of a Major of the Golden Flower Kingdom briskly approached the office of the frontline commander, clutching a document and adjusting his self-presentation.
Upon ensuring that all was in order, he knocked on the sealed door.
This was driven not just by good upbringing and personal grooming habits, but also because of General Loren, the person the Major was about to meet, a commander who demanded utmost standards in all affairs.
As small as patrol routes within the fortress by the military police or seating arrangements during occasional officers’ dinners to as large as post-battle summaries of every military operation.
If the commanders and soldiers of the Exploration Corps did not want to be scolded or punished by the strict General, it was undoubtedly the right work attitude to do their best in all aspects of their responsibilities.
A famous quote from General Loren aptly depicted his personality: “Death always favours those who are dutiful.”
“Enter!”
A deep voice sounded from within the office.
The Major entered, saluted the general plainly and efficiently, who was bent over a map behind his desk, and reported:
“General, the frontline special task report has arrived, and it includes an encrypted message that requires your urgent attention!”
Finishing his sentence, the Major then lowered his voice:
“It pertains to the ‘goods’.”
“Hmm?”
The general, who had been studying the military map, looked up at this statement, revealing his prime, sharply defined face.
While not necessarily handsome, his knife-sharp features, stern square face and a well-groomed beard gave him a sturdy, old-fashioned and stern aura.
Casting his pen aside, he stroked his favorite beard, jumped down from his chair, straightened his general’s collar, and strode in front of the major.
Finally, the general looked up at him.
Uh, everyone rumored that General Loren Fredrick had courage and strength that defied his height, but this wasn’t merely flattery or praise.
It was a fact.
General Loren of the Golden Flower Kingdom, King Louis’ most trusted commander, a shining star of war sprung from the Old Imperial Guard, the intense pride of the Greenie Corps, and the half-dwarf who singlehandedly assembled and trained the Exploration Corps into the kingdom’s largest military force during the Ten-year War…
He was of half Silver Dwarf heritage.
This made the General stand out among the dwarves, yet he was still visibly petite in front of the 6’3″ Major…
But no one would dare belittle General Loren!
Exactly as no one would underestimate the lethal war-axe swung by a dwarf on the battlefield.
Those who dared to disrespect him over his height would likely not live to see the sun the next day.
Additionally, there was an unwritten rule within the Exploration Corps to avoid referencing ‘short’ in official and casual conversations.
Note that this was not a request!
Despite the General assuring all his soldiers on the first day of the corps’ inception that he didn’t mind them discussing his height, it was evident that his dwarf heritage was quietly and stubbornly influential.
Notoriously, dwarves on the mainland had a reputation for being touchy.
On the third month since the creation of the army, a certain brave Junior Lieutenant, who out of drunkenness disrespectful compared his enemies’ courage to that of dwarfs, was cast into the frontier.
Everyone soon understood where the General’s bottom line was.
Although the Junior Lieutenant was fortunate to survive four tough battles and swiftly promoted to the rank of Colonel, this was nonetheless a tragic tale.
Now in the office, General Loren, hands clasped behind his back, looked up at the Major – a man whose extraordinary height irked him but whose superlative work capability and potent background were undeniable.
The Major stood at attention, his manner devoid of any discourtesies that could be faulted.
Consequently, General Loren asked in a deep voice:
“What went wrong with my goods?
According to the timetable, they should have reached the Andma Hills by now.”
“The transport team was ambushed, General.”
The Major briskly walked to the military map of the Transylvania region, stationed on the wall.
He picked up a red thumbtack and precisely pinned it next to the Polluted Swamp.
He pointed there and told the frowning General:
“The incident occurred last night, around 9 o’clock.
Sixty elite Blood Vulture Midnight Hunters and their armed Blood Servants attacked the transport team that had just left the Polluted Swamp.
The psychic commanding the team resisted and ordered the Wolf Poison clan’s warriors to safeguard the goods while they retreated.
However, cunning vampires had prearranged an ambush at the edge of the Smugglers’ Forest.
Our valiant soldiers were defeated, and the goods have been confirmed lost.”
“So, how was this news transmitted back?”
General Loren did not dwell on the theft of the goods he had paid a high price to secure but instead retorted:
“So, not all of the transport team was wiped out?
If any of them survived, why have they only provided such a poor report?
Who was the commander responsible for the enemy’s interception operation?
And who was the last vampire to make contact with the goods?”
