Chapter 107 - 107 39
107: 39.

Dependent on Each Other_3 This is a sight rarely seen in the material world.
Perhaps, due to the spiritual impact caused by the creature from the Star Realm, Lady Cui Si began to have some wondrous associations at this moment.
She vaguely remembered…
Over a year ago, when she found little Murphy, it was also a cold, snowy day.
That day, she had just completed the initial ceremony for a wealthy businessman who traveled between the local area and Charldo Harbor, granting him the coveted “eternal life”.
As a result, the man bestowed a third of his wealth on Cui Si, who had made a special trip to Cardman City to visit her.
Cui Si initially planned to use this newfound wealth to buy a wine cellar and renovate her manor.
A short while later, she found a starving Murphy on the edge of the city.
It was snowing heavily that day; very cold.
Eighteen-year-old Murphy, clad in thin clothes, lay there on the cold pavement.
It was the eighth year of the Ten-year War, and runaways like him were everywhere.
People died daily in Cardman City due to starvation.
Cui Si had forgotten why she decided to take Murphy in.
Maybe she had a random thought during a night of heavy drinking, or maybe she had a sudden surge of kindness.
Perhaps she couldn’t bear to see such a lovely life taken away by death.
Either way, it felt like she’d gained a new ward in the blink of an eye.
As always, the earned money was quickly spent.
But this time, the new addition seemed different from all her previous wards – he actually chose not to leave her, like an unending, tender dream.
“Cui Si…Cui Si…are you alright?
Don’t scare me…open your eyes!
It’s me!
Cui Si…”
The familiar voice seemed to be coming from beyond the horizon, gradually pulling the bewildered Cui Si’s consciousness back to the physical world.
In her haze, she saw Murphy’s handsome, adorable face again.
Yet she knew, this was just the lingering effect of the psychological manipulation by the creature from the Star Realm, the final vision she saw near her end, was this young lad…
But little Murphy had long left!
The boy had followed her advice, left Cardman City for a safer place, and had evaded her as well as misfortune.
So, how could he possibly be beside her right now?
The black snow in the sky began to fall heavier.
This was a sign of impending danger, but she no longer intended to resist this damned fate.
She had never had a smooth life!
From cradle to grave, she had had enough of destiny’s four hundred years’ worth of mockery.
“Cui Si!”
Another call disturbed Cui Si who wanted to close her eyes amid the snow.
She tried to reach out to disperse the illusion before her eyes, but the hand she lifted was caught the next moment; she was then held in a more warmth-emitting embrace than what a vampire could give.
He was half-kneeling in the black snow, holding her tightly as if she were his most precious possession in life.
“Thank heavens, Cui Si, you…you’re still alive…I’m back now, Cui Si, it’s Murphy.
I’m sorry, I was late, but I’m so relieved you’re alright…”
This alien but painfully real hug jolted Cui Si back to her senses.
She shook her head violently, feeling her body being lifted from the ground, finally understanding the situation.
Almost immediately, a surge of fury ignited in her heart.
“Didn’t I tell you to leave!
Why are you back!
You disobedient boy!”
She scolded him, trying to slap Murphy’s face, but, due to her weakness, she couldn’t carry out the action.
Murphy simply covered her with his midnight cloak and carried her on his back.
“Don’t be afraid, I’ll get you out of here.
Hold on!”
Murphy gently spoke to Cui Si on his back.
He braced himself against the increasingly heavy black snow and moved forth to the collapsed city wall.
Cui Si, who was on his back, weakly buried her head on Murphy’s shoulder.
Unluckily, during the battle just now, it seemed as if sand had gotten into her eyes, now making her eyes uncomfortable, prompting the emission of some weak substance.
Fortunately, vampires don’t shed tears, so no one could see her dreadful expression at the moment.
Otherwise, she’d surely be ridiculed, right?
After all, the world she was familiar with, the world of vampires, was far harsher than the midnight blessing and the current warm embrace.
“Little Murphy…”
“Hmm?”
“I want a drink…”
“You still want to drink at a time like this!
Hold it in!
I’ll find you a better one once we’re out.”
“No…Without a drink, the pain from my injuries…”
“So that’s the reason you’re addicted to alcohol?
Why didn’t you say so before?
Okay, I’ll help you look around on the way.
Just bear with it for now.”
“Okay.”
Under the gloomy, gray, and increasingly dangerous sky, the whirlpool of Spiritual Energy from the Star Realm looked like a black sun.
Amid the cascading black snow, it emitted an eerie, dark light, stretching Murphy’s shadow on the snow-covered ground so long that it merged with Cui Si’s.
As though the two could never again be separated.
Hmm, the last ward of Lady Cui Si in her long life seemed truly different from all the other ungrateful individuals.
Perhaps all the luck she had stored throughout her unfortunate life was expended on that icy cold night a year ago?
