Chapter 357 - Chapter 357 Chapter 356 Licking a Bun (15)
Chapter 357: Chapter 356 Licking a Bun (1/5) Chapter 357: Chapter 356 Licking a Bun (1/5) In the damp cave, Shao Zifeng followed the gaze of the small deer.
He saw star blue light particles gathering in one place.
As the light grew brighter, a nest made of various items appeared in Shao Zifeng’s line of sight.
The nest, constructed between two colossal rocks, could have been easily overlooked if not for the small deer’s guidance.
The nest’s inhabitant was unknown, but the materials were diverse, ranging from birds’ feathers, animal fur, plastic bags, and metal sheets to wooden planks, even human clothing, and something resembling a backpack.
Huh.
Backpack…
emmm
Contemplating the backpack mixed within the nest, Shao Zifeng felt a stirring of curiosity.
However, he did not act rashly.
The presence of a nest in the cave further confirmed the existence of unknown creatures.
He planned to familiarize himself with the environment and eliminate any dangers before attempting to retrieve the backpack.
“Little deer.”
“Yo~”
The small deer nodded gently, its eyes shimmering with light. The gathered starshine particles suddenly scattered, illuminating every corner of the Underground Cave.
Just as Shao Zifeng was about to continue exploring, he froze because he had just realized the nest was actually at the end of the Underground Cave.
In a depression not far from the nest, what Shao Zifeng thought might be a path turned out to be a burial ground for bones.
Bones of varying sizes accumulated in the hollow, some still with strands of flesh attached, the rotting odor intensifying as one drew closer.
“Carnivorous animal.”
Shao Zifeng became even more cautious; he signaled the small deer with a glance, telling it to stay alert.
He himself advanced carefully towards the depression, hoping to find some clue.
Now buried under an iceberg, it was uncertain when rescue would come. If he could find an exit himself, that would be ideal.
Even if not, identifying potential dangers in advance would save him from constant anxiety.
The small deer moved cautiously at Shao Zifeng’s side, emitting a soft glow, its little ears quivering, vigilantly observing the surroundings.
Crack.
Approaching the depression, a faint snapping sound tensed Shao Zifeng’s body. He felt the ground give way beneath his feet, as though stepping into mud.
Looking down and carefully lifting his foot, several star blue particles swiftly floated over. The previously rock-strewn ground turned muddy, with fractured bones visible in his footprint.
At that moment, Shao Zifeng’s pupils constricted as he noticed several disordered footprints not far from his own.
Carefully crouching, he examined the two sets of footprints while the small deer helpfully directed a few starshine particles to provide light.
Judging from the tracks on the ground, they were unlike any bird or beast footprints he knew. If they had to be compared, they bore a slight resemblance to bird tracks.
However, in comparison to bird tracks of similar size, these were much more robust, conveying a sense of power.
The ratio from toe to claw was exaggerated; based on that ratio, the creature’s claws could be much longer than its toes.
Dinosaurs.
Small carnivorous dinosaurs.
This idea suddenly surfaced in his mind, but was quickly dismissed by Shao Zifeng.
Or perhaps they, like the Ice Horned Whale, were.
Mutant creatures from beyond Earth?
Maybe only that could clearly explain why there would be dinosaur-like creatures in Antarctica.
Sensing Shao Zifeng’s emotional fluctuations, the small deer tilted its tiny head.
“Yo?”
“Cough, how do I know? Of course, through my sharp observation!”
“Yo yo.”
“You see this footprint, it displays this and that characteristic, each fine crack on the edge can prove it is…”
“Don’t look at me with that kind of gaze.”
“Alright, I admit I was spouting nonsense, go on, take a guess if you’re so capable.”
“Yo yo yo!”
“So you know you’re a deer, huh? Is there any deer as lively and cute, thoughtful and virtuous as you?”
The familiar quarreling dispelled some of the oppressive feeling in the Underground Cave.
Shao Zifeng, the player, slapped on an unexpected flattery, making the little deer lose its composure in an instant and show an embarrassed expression.
And so, the last round of this quarreling match ended with victory for player Shao Zifeng.
Throwing a proud glance at the shy deer, Zifeng sidestepped those footprints and took a few more steps forward.
He roughly examined the skeletons in the depression, most of which belonged to a variety of small animals, and half a piece turned out to be human remains.
Why half a piece, you ask? Because the remains only consisted of the upper half, with the pelvis and below nowhere to be found.
Asking the little deer for help with flipping it over, Zifeng fell into silence upon seeing the decaying skeletons crumbling to dust underneath.
If all these skeletons were the food of the mutant creatures in the cave, then his previous conjecture that the nest belonged to an exotic mutant creature would be overturned.
The “Unknown Recovery Event” was barely more than twenty years ago; there was no way that it could have decomposed the bones below to this extent.
What in the world is this…
Zifeng’s mood grew heavier, he took a deep breath and turned to walk toward the nest.
If he couldn’t figure it out, he might as well not think about it at all and find something enjoyable to do.
Like licking a packet?
“Little deer, light me up.”
“Yo~”
The cheerful little deer hopped and skipped behind Zifeng, while the floating Starshine particles gently danced, quickly gathering above the nest amidst the other light particles in the cave.
This nest built between the boulders wasn’t very tall, about up to Zifeng’s waist, but it was quite large in area, with room for three Zifengs to lie inside without any problem.
Moreover, one could tell that the nest was used long-term, the lower layers of fur and miscellaneous items were compressed, and there was a thick layer of filth inside the nest.
The materials used in the nest were differentiated into several layers. The ones at the bottom had decayed to the point that their original forms were hard to discern, but the materials used in the upper layers were much more familiar.
For example, there were pieces of clothing and something resembling a backpack in the middle and upper layers, and above those were fresh fur and a large number of plastic bags.
Zifeng tugged at the backpack a few times, only to find he couldn’t pull it out with his strength alone.
“Little deer, help me tear this apart.”
“Woo~”
Upon hearing him, the little deer looked up slightly, its eyes twinkling with Starshine, the sheen swirling within.
Crack.
A few faint sounds of cracking echoed as the rocks on the left and right of the nest shattered, and several emerald-green vines thrust into the nest, breaking through the rock.
The nest trembled slightly as the vines penetrated it, quickly swelling in size and creating small gaps between the items.
At the same time, an unpleasant, offensive odor spread.
Crackle–
The next moment, the nest was violently ripped apart by the vines, which were now laden with all manner of debris.
A stench of decay assaulted the nostrils.
“Yo~”
The vine holding the backpack extended in front of Zifeng, its tip blooming with a few small white flowers.
The white blossoms trembled gently, emitting a fresh, fragrant scent.
It seemed the little deer was truly in a good mood.
The vines even bloomed with flowers.
