Chapter 290: Chapter 289: Explosive Wherever I Go (Vote for Me) Chapter 290: Chapter 289: Explosive Wherever I Go (Vote for Me) Hearing the citizens’ words of admiration, Lady Silver Fern quickly dismissed Qiuqiu from her mind.
Since it had known when to retreat, her goal had been accomplished, and she needed to hurry back for a beauty sleep.
Okay.
Having used so many skills, she deserved several servings of ice cream as a reward!
With that thought, the silhouette of Lady Silver Fern slowly vanished into the night sky.
Seeing this, the citizens, filled with gratitude toward Lady Silver Fern, left one after another.
“Lady Silver Fern is so beautiful,” said the young investigator, his face wearing an infatuated smile as he gazed at the spot where she had disappeared.
The older investigator kicked him, “Stop daydreaming and get back to work.”
“Work?” the young investigator blinked, “Isn’t it over?”
“Take everyone from the clubhouse for questioning, or how do you plan to explain this to the higher-ups?”
“Oh.”
The actions of the dozen investigators were swift; within minutes, all the technicians and customers receiving services at the clubhouse were taken away.
Looking at the dozens of men and women before him, the young investigator licked his dry lips and clicked his tongue in astonishment.
When he noticed a particular person in the crowd, his eyes lit up, “Isn’t that the deputy…”
“Shut up,” the older investigator glared at him fiercely, “If you want to keep your job, act as if you didn’t see anything.”
“Alright, let’s wrap this up.”
Whir.
The young investigator looked around, puzzled.
“What are you looking at?”
“Didn’t you hear something strange?”
“Strange noise?” The older investigator slapped him on the head, “Stop slacking off, let’s go.”
“But really…”
Boom!
A loud explosion sounded.
From the nearby clubhouse, a hot wave burst forth, and the ear-splitting boom sent up billowing smoke clouds, engulfing the area like a sandstorm lifting into the sky.
The European-style clubhouse collapsed amidst flames, and terror-stricken screams tore through the streets.
The visible shockwave swept across, flipping cars, igniting their fuel tanks, and sending up plumes of black smoke.
The surrounding buildings cracked, all windows shattered instantly, and chunks of stone mixed with steel rebar fell like meteors, rolling down the street upon impact.
Citizens who had not yet left covered their ears and screamed in horror.
The entire city was enveloped in flames, the red glow and thick smoke standing out against the night sky.
The sudden explosion left everyone stunned.
Inside a seaside villa far from the clubhouse.
The man in sunglasses, looking at the smoke rising over Christchurch City, angrily smashed his wine glass to the floor.
All present trembled, bowed their heads, and dared not look at him.
He scanned the room, panting. If Bob hadn’t left, he’d have killed him.
Now he just hoped this farce would end soon; the bigger the mess, the less likely he was to be able to cleanly extricate himself from it.
On the cruise ship.
Cang Haiyuan and Yang Qi’s group, watching the explosion over the urban area, swallowed hard.
This completely went south.
Damn, this trip to the Antarctic isn’t going to get screwed, is it?
“How much longer till we get there?”
Cang Haiyuan, with trembling hands, took out a metal cigarette case from his pocket and placed a cigarette between his lips.
Click.
The lighter was too damp to ignite. After several attempts, he threw it into the sea in frustration.
Yang Qi licked his chapped lips, “The Xuelong had a little accident, the Professor has to come by himself, so…”
“Fuck,” Haiyuan cursed aggressively, “the guy who causes an explosion wherever he goes is truly terrifying.”
At the city’s docks, Mirage Beibei struggled to drag the unconscious Shao Zifeng to the surface.
Turning its head with small blinking eyes, it felt returning the same way seemed unrealistic, so it decided to drag the passed-out Zifeng to the shore.
Looking at Zifeng’s hugely swollen belly, Mirage Beibei felt at a loss.
Suddenly, its eyes brightened, and it waddled over to Zifeng’s chest with small, pattering steps.
“Beibei.”
“Beibei.”
With every shout, Mirage Beibei would jump up.
It was trying to press the accumulated water out of Shao Zifeng’s chest cavity.
Boom.
An unexpected explosion made the jumping Mirage Beibei stiffen, before landing squarely on Shao Zifeng’s chest.
Splat.
It collapsed into a puddle, like a smashed egg.
“Cough, cough…”
A stream of water spurted from Shao Zifeng’s mouth, and clumps of dark red blood clots surged from his nostrils.
After a long moment, he opened his eyes and asked hoarsely, “Where am I…”
“Beibeibeibeibei.”
Seeing that Shao Zifeng was awake, Mirage Beibei quickly returned to its original form and ran to his ear, loudly babbling.
Christchurch City.
Lady Silver Fern hovered in mid-air, the night breeze fluttering the light veils around her.
Looking down at the deep pit below, belching thick smoke, her chest rose and fell rapidly.
“Roar.”
Opposite her, Qiuqiu, having dispelled its gigantification, wobbled as it flapped its ethereal dragon wings, its dim eyes filled with a sense of gratification.
Lady Silver Fern fixed her piercing gaze on the panting Qiuqiu.
“You! Are! Seeking! Death!”
“Woof.” Qiuqiu grinned, revealing a mischievous smile.
Swish, swish, swish!
Countless petals appeared out of nowhere, and then vanished in an instant.
“Roar!”
A dull metallic film surfaced on Qiuqiu’s body, the rarely used defense ability.
But the film was exceptionally frail against the onslaught of the petals.
Scores of ghastly wounds appeared instantly on Qiuqiu’s body, the torn scale armor raining down like blood in the flames.
Lady Silver Fern looked on indifferently at the dragon opposite her as more petals emerged around her.
Qiuqiu let out a pained roar, its massive flame wings shredded like tattered cloth, its body swaying as it plummeted into the roaring inferno below.
Boom.
A plume of ash rose from the flames.
Pant.
Qiuqiu uttered heavy breaths.
All around were blazing flames, its scar-covered body twitching, the blood that seeped out quickly desiccated by the intense heat.
Qiuqiu raised its eyelids to look at the furious Lady Silver Fern, mockery in its dim eyes.
Its body grew heavier and heavier.
Struggling to lift its paw, Qiuqiu looked at the wounds there as darkness gradually closed in.
It had been a long time since it had suffered such severe injuries.
Last time…
Last time was…
“Qiuqiu.”
A gentle voice sounded.
In the darkness, a soft white light suddenly shone, and the person, radiating a hazy glow, walked over and opened his arms towards it.
“Ying.” Qiuqiu ran swiftly and jumped into his embrace.
Warm hands caught its bare body, the long fingers reproachfully tapping its little nose.
“Don’t do this next time.”
“Ying.”
Qiuqiu lay on the ground, its bloodstained mouth gently murmuring, as if responding to the person.
The fire crackled as it burned, and Qiuqiu’s dim eyes slowly closed.
“Qiuqiu!!”
Just as it was about to fall asleep, a familiar voice burst beside its ear, like thunder.
It struggled to open heavy eyelids.
Within the raging flames, that familiar figure staggered toward it.
Just like the one in the white light before.
