Chapter 321: Chapter 321: Perhaps This is Fate

"I’ve booked the ticket for the day after tomorrow to go back," Lu Youxi said.

"No rush, come over for dinner at my place tonight," the village chief said. "We can have a good chat."

Lu Youxi thought for a moment and replied, "How about tomorrow? Tonight I want to spend some time with Grandma Xu. Although it’s a bit late, I hope to make up somewhat for the regret she must have felt being alone at home during New Year’s Eve."

The village chief initially wanted to invite Grandma Xu over as well, but then he thought about it and felt that she was an elder and it wasn’t appropriate to ask an elder to come to their house.

They should be the ones to visit Grandma Xu.

The village chief really had something to discuss with Lu Youxi, so he said, "Why don’t we go to Grandma Xu’s place tonight as well? It’ll be lively if everyone gathers together."

The Village Chief’s Wife gave him a glare, "Wow, you really do love to impose on others!"

Liu Yushu replied with a smile, "What’s so troubling about that? It’s fun when there are more people. Come on over!"

Liu Yushu said, "I’ll show off my cooking skills for you all, I’ve learned a lot of new dishes."

The Village Chief’s Wife promptly said, "Then I’ll go over early to help you out."

With so many people coming, they couldn’t let Liu Yushu handle everything by herself.

Liu Yushu indeed couldn’t manage it alone, so she didn’t refuse.

So, Lu Youxi and the others hurried back to Grandma Xu’s house.

While Lu Youxi and the group were still at the village chief’s home, Grandma Xu heard from the villagers that Lu Youxi and the others had returned.

She heard that Zhou Shuyan’s mother had also come to wish her a Happy New Year.

Grandma Xu had not yet seen Lu Youxi, and she didn’t know where they planned to stay this time.

If only they could stay with her again.

Grandma Xu couldn’t help but walk to the courtyard entrance and stand there looking around.

She told herself not to get her hopes too high because they had their own things to deal with.

But she still couldn’t help but anticipate their arrival.

After waiting for a long time without seeing anyone, and as the sky gradually darkened, she began to feel a bit dazed from standing so long.

Grandma Xu sighed and was about to go back inside when suddenly she heard someone call out, "Grandma Xu!"

Grandma Xu was startled for a moment and quickly looked over, seeing a line of people gradually approaching in the distance.

Lu Youxi quickened their pace, running to the front of the group.

Arriving before Grandma Xu first, "Grandma Xu, Happy New Year!"

"Good, good, good!" Grandma Xu nodded repeatedly, her smile so wide she couldn’t close her mouth.

"Grandma Xu, do you have enough space at your place? We’ve come back, and we have nowhere to stay," Lu Youxi said, holding onto Grandma Xu.

"Yes, yes, yes, I just did a big cleaning before the New Year, the rooms are so clean. Bedsheets, quilt covers, everything is new," Grandma Xu quickly said, the word "home" from Lu Youxi warmed her heart incredibly.

It really felt like her own child had come home!

"Come on in!" Grandma Xu beckoned to the group who had now reached her.

"Aunt Xu!" Xu Jingmin approached Grandma Xu.

Before, both Lu Youxi and Zhou Shuyan had called her Grandma Xu, and Xu Jingmin had followed suit without thinking, so she had called her Grandma Xu as well.

But this was indeed inappropriate; it wasn’t right to call her by her son’s generational title.

So when she faced Grandma Xu, Xu Jingmin changed her address.

"I am Shuyan’s mother," Jingmin said, gripping Grandma Xu’s hand.

Grandma Xu’s hand was rough but warm, and as Jingmin held it, she felt a warmth that seemed to reach inside her heart.

"Aunt Xu, I share the same surname as you, my name is Jingmin," Jingmin said, with tears welling up in her eyes, "Thank you, thank you for saving my child. If it hadn’t been for you, I might have no child left. I almost... already having lost my husband, I could have lost my son too. Thank you for saving him."

"Oh, it’s nothing, it’s all in the past," Grandma Xu quickly comforted her, her hands clumsily trying to reassure Jingmin.

Jingmin’s hands were too delicate, like those of a young girl’s, and Grandma Xu didn’t dare to hold them too tightly, afraid that Jingmin might find her hand’s roughness unpleasant.

Instead, it was Jingmin who held onto Grandma Xu’s hand very tightly.

"Also, it wasn’t just me who saved him, Youxi was there too," Grandma Xu hurriedly explained, worried that Jingmin might misunderstand that the credit was all hers, "I am old now and can’t do much. Lifting, carrying, running up and down, it was all Youxi."

"I know, it was you and Youxi together who saved Shuyan," Jingmin said, "No matter what, I am truly... truly grateful to you."

"Perhaps this is fate, my surname is Xu, and so is yours," Jingmin said with a smile.

"Stop crying," Grandma Xu quickly reached out to wipe her tears, belatedly remembering the roughness of her own hands.

Jingmin’s face was so delicate, she didn’t seem like someone with a son as old as Zhou Shuyan, and Grandma Xu was afraid she might cause discomfort, so she quickly tried to pull her hand back.

But Jingmin felt a warmth on her face, and a warmth in her heart too, and she rubbed her face against Grandma Xu’s hand.

How could the children of such a good elderly woman be so unfilial?

"Aunt Xu, not to hide it from you, my mother also passed away early," Jingmin sniffed, "Seeing you, I really feel especially close."

Perhaps, it was her mother’s blessing from beyond.

That led to the gravely injured Shuyan being found by Grandma Xu and Youxi.

"Child, stop crying, everything is okay now," Grandma Xu said gently.

Jingmin looked at Grandma Xu, who lived a difficult life herself, yet was still comforting her, and sighed in her heart.

"It’s cold outside, come into the house with me," Grandma Xu held Jingmin’s hand and said to everyone.

So, everyone, carrying big and small bags, following Grandma Xu with luggage in tow, entered the house.

There were two empty rooms in the house.

One room was perfect for Lu Zhenguo and his wife, and the other room was just right for Zhou Shuyan and Youxi to stay in.

But now with the addition of Jingmin, the arrangements became a bit difficult.

Jingmin, still holding onto Grandma Xu’s hand, said with a smile, "If you don’t mind, I wouldn’t mind sharing a room with you, is that okay?"

"Mind? Not at all; why would I mind that?" Grandma Xu hastily replied, "I’m actually the one who’s afraid you might mind sharing with an old lady like me."

"How could I? What kind of person do you take me for?" Jingmin said.

And so, it was settled.

Liu Yushu tidied things up a bit, and just as she was about to go to the kitchen, the Village Chief’s Wife arrived.

"Grandma Xu, Youxi," the Village Chief’s Wife wasn’t empty-handed; she had brought a freshly killed chicken, two fish, and some ribs.

"I haven’t come too late, have I?" the Village Chief’s Wife asked as she entered.

"No, I was just about to head to the kitchen," Liu Yushu said with a smile.

Seeing the Village Chief’s Wife with so much stuff, Grandma Xu asked hurriedly, "Why have you brought so much over?"

"We have a lot of people tonight, and my family of three is coming too, so we needed to add some dishes," the Village Chief’s Wife explained cheerfully, "There are some snacks too; they’re with Old Fang, I couldn’t carry them all. He and Yanshun will follow soon."

The Village Chief’s Wife was an efficient woman, carrying the items with her to the kitchen along with Liu Yushu, without delay.

Youxi took out the gifts for Aunt Lin and Aunt Liu, saying, "I’m going to pay a New Year’s visit to Aunt Lin and Aunt Liu now; it wouldn’t be good to delay until tomorrow."
