My Multiple Identities Revealed After Marrying the Bigshot -
Chapter 224: People Fear Comparison
Chapter 224: Chapter 224: People Fear Comparison
This was something Lu Zhenguo had never considered before.
But people are afraid of comparisons.
Originally, before Lu Youxi came to the Imperial Capital and was still in Hexing Village, he also didn’t know what the Imperial Capital was actually like. His understanding of the Imperial Capital all came from Lu Zhenjia and Ge Guifen.
He thought that surviving in the Imperial Capital was particularly difficult, with enormous pressure.
However, after following Lu Youxi there, he found out that although the pressure was indeed great, there were also many opportunities.
As long as you were willing to work hard, you could always find a way to make money.
No matter how much you earned, survival was definitely not a problem.
Let alone comparing it with Hetai Town, even Fengnan City, offered many more opportunities.
Now, if someone said how hard it was for Lu Youbang in the Imperial Capital, he wouldn’t believe it.
Why could Lu Youxi make money while also in the Imperial Capital?
Why could Lu Youxi make money and not neglect her studies at the same time?
Lu Youbang just wasn’t working hard enough.
Therefore, Lu Zhenguo started to think less of Lu Youbang.
With the comparison to Lu Youxi, Lu Zhenguo now didn’t hold Lu Youbang in high regard.
Lu Zhenguo wasn’t very good at hiding his expressions, and some disapproval seeped through on his face.
Although Lu Youbang didn’t know what Lu Zhenguo was thinking, looking at Lu Zhenguo’s expression, why did it seem like he looked down on him?
There was a slight look of dissatisfaction on Lu Zhenguo’s face towards him.
Lu Youbang stiffened harshly.
Why should Lu Zhenguo look down on him?
Was it because he came to the Imperial Capital and had a house that he started feeling like he was a resident of the Imperial Capital, and his pride rose accordingly?
Lu Youbang suppressed the displeasure in his heart and said to Lu Zhenguo, "Uncle, Grandpa had a stroke."
"What?" Lu Zhenguo was shocked as if he had been struck by lightning. How could such a sudden thing happen!
"Your Grandpa had a stroke? How did he have a stroke?" Lu Zhenguo was shocked, so much so that he was a bit unsteady and even staggered backwards a few steps.
Lu Zhenguo stood at the entrance of the internet café, with two low steps in front of the café’s door right behind him.
As he stepped back, he almost stumbled over the steps.
Lu Youbang pretended to help Lu Zhenguo briefly, "I don’t know how it happened, it was just sudden."
"Just now, Mom called me and I didn’t know your phone number, so I could only come here to find you." Lu Youbang explained further, "Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t deliberately pry into anything. It’s just that everyone at our school knows that Youxi owns this internet café, so I came here to try my luck and see if I could run into you."
Lu Zhenguo wasn’t in the mood to ponder why Lu Youbang knew to find him here.
Lu Youbang’s additional explanation was purely superfluous.
But now, Lu Zhenguo couldn’t distract himself with those thoughts, asking hurriedly, "What did your mom say?"
"Let me tell you in detail." Lu Youbang then described how Old Madam Lu found Old Master Lu unresponsive in the morning, how Dr. Zheng came to see him, and afterwards, they took Old Master Lu to the town hospital.
"Now we’re just waiting for a bed at the city hospital," Lu Youbang said, "Normally, he should have been admitted to the town hospital first, so that if anything happened, such as his condition worsening, it can be discovered and treated promptly. But because the family really can’t afford the hospital expenses for that long, we had to take Grandpa back home to wait for a bed at the city hospital, and he needs to have surgery."
Lu Youbang sighed, blaming himself, "It’s because I’m useless, not as good at making money as Youxi, and here I am, the older brother, being outdone by my younger sister. At a critical moment, I’m of no help at all. Now the family can’t even come up with the money to pay for Grandpa’s surgery."
After finishing his speech, Lu Youbang suddenly came to his senses, hastily explained, "Uncle, don’t take my words to heart, I didn’t come to ask you for money. It’s just that Grandpa having a stroke is no small matter, and I thought you should be informed."
Lu Zhenguo now couldn’t really listen to his roundabout explanations, simply nodding absentmindedly, "I understand."
And then, he had no further reaction.
Lu Youbang frowned slightly, dissatisfied with Lu Zhenguo’s reaction, and could only say, "Uncle, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to school."
Lu Zhenguo nodded unconsciously, "Okay, go ahead."
Not forgetting to admonish, "When you go back, focus on your studies, don’t think about anything else."
Lu Zhenguo’s intention was for him not to worry too much about Old Master Lu’s stroke.
He was still young and should prioritize his studies; if any issues arose, the family elders would take care of it.
But in Lu Youbang’s ears, it sounded different.
Lu Youbang wasn’t very pleased, his face grew dark, his lips pursed slightly in dissent, he nodded and said, "Then Uncle, I’ll be leaving."
Lu Zhenguo nodded, and didn’t say anything more.
Lu Youbang left with a frown, wondering if his visit today had been in vain.
Could Lu Zhenguo really let go, disregarding whatever happened to the Lu Family’s elders?
Lu Zhenguo went back into the internet café absentmindedly, continuing his work, cleaning up.
He just talked less and was often distracted.
In the evening, guessing that Liu Yushu was about to prepare the boxed meals, Lu Zhenguo went home to carry them.
"I’m back, it will be ready soon, wait a moment," Liu Yushu was busy in the kitchen and called out to Lu Zhenguo.
"Okay." Lu Zhenguo responded simply, without much desire to chat.
After Liu Yushu finished packing the meals into disposable boxes and into a foam container, she realized something was amiss.
Lu Zhenguo usually helped out, but today he didn’t.
After she finished her task and came out of the kitchen into the living room, she found Lu Zhenguo sitting on the couch, lost in thought.
"Zhenguo, what happened?" Liu Yushu asked.
Lu Zhenguo didn’t hear her, and Liu Yushu called out twice more, each time louder than the last.
Lu Zhenguo finally heard her, came back to his senses, and was about to speak when the door opened again.
"Mom," Lu Youxi burst in.
"Surprised, Liu Yushu asked, "Why did you come back today?"
It was only Wednesday, and Lu Youxi usually came back on Fridays.
"Dad, you are here too, I was just about to go to the internet café to find you," Lu Youxi said anxiously, "Aunt Lin just called me, saying that Grandpa had a stroke!"
Lu Zhenguo looked at Lu Youxi in surprise.
He didn’t expect Lu Youxi to know as well.
Mainly, he hadn’t anticipated Aunt Lin would tell Lu Youxi about it either.
Nor did he expect that upon learning it, Lu Youxi wouldn’t plan to hide it from him, instead rushing home to tell him.
Seeing Lu Youxi’s flushed face, still gasping for breath, Lu Zhenguo’s face showed a touch of relief.
"Yes, Youbang came looking for me today and told me," Lu Zhenguo said, "I just didn’t expect you to know."
"Sit down and rest for a bit, don’t rush," Lu Zhenguo was calm now, seeing Lu Youxi so anxious, "Grandpa having a stroke came suddenly, we are far away in the Imperial Capital, and getting anxious is no use, nor can it be solved immediately."
