Chapter 159: Are You Hinting at Me, Kid?

Chapter 159: Chapter 159: Are You Hinting at Me, Kid?

Liu Yushu always felt that she owed Lu Youxi.

Originally, when Lu Youxi was in Hexing Village, her life had been tough.

It was with great difficulty that she became independent from the Lu Family’s elders, only to end up getting married to Zhou Shuyan. She had barely stayed at home for a few days before she left for the Imperial Capital.

Lu Youxi went to the Imperial Capital to study, but her parents couldn’t help her at all. They could only cobble together two thousand yuan for her entire year’s living expenses, and they couldn’t even manage to cover her tuition fees.

It was Lu Youxi herself who had the ability to earn money and rent such a nice apartment to move them there.

Today, Liu Yushu wasn’t reluctant to spend money and bought many ingredients, wanting to nourish Lu Youxi properly.

Lu Youxi told them that she ate well in the school cafeteria.

But Liu Yushu always felt uneasy without seeing it for herself, wondering whether Lu Youxi was just saying that to reassure them.

Even though Lu Youxi was capable, Liu Yushu thought that Lu Youxi must have been economizing to come up with that much money in a short time.

There had to be tasty dishes in the cafeteria, but Lu Youxi probably hesitated to indulge, so Liu Yushu thought of cooking Lu Youxi some nice dishes whenever she came home.

Usually, when Lu Youxi was at school, they would manage their household frugally.

"Xiao Zhou, try this and see if it’s to your taste. Let me know if there’s something specific you’d like to eat, and I’ll cook it for you tomorrow," said Liu Yushu.

Zhou Shuyan loved Liu Yushu’s cooking; in fact, she was a very skilled cook.

Life was tough in Hexing Village, where they ate only the cheapest vegetables, barely affording much meat, and sparingly using oil.

But even under those circumstances, Liu Yushu still made delicious meals.

Now that conditions had improved, they could afford a variety of ingredients, which truly showcased Liu Yushu’s culinary skills.

"This is delicious." Zhou Shuyan kept praising as he ate.

It was evident that he genuinely loved the food and wasn’t just paying lip service.

"How about you, Youxi?" Liu Yushu promptly asked Lu Youxi, watching her reaction closely.

"It’s really tasty, much better than our school cafeteria, and even tastier than that small restaurant we usually go to," Lu Youxi nodded continuously. "We didn’t have the means before, so my mother’s cooking skills were wasted as we had only a few dishes. Now that we can afford more, everything you make is just delicious."

Liu Yushu was beaming, "As long as you like it, that’s great. I’ll cook different recipes every day as long as you’re home!"

"Those dishes we had at the restaurant yesterday, I remembered them all. I’ll figure it out and cook them for you," Liu Yushu added.

Lu Youxue was also eating blissfully.

He had never eaten such delicious meals at home before.

"If there’s anything tasty at your school cafeteria that you like or want to eat, come tell me, and I’ll make it for you," said Liu Yushu, worried that Lu Youxi might have been passing up more expensive, tasty dishes at the cafeteria to save money.

She thought that if Lu Youxi really liked them, she surely would’ve remembered, and Liu Yushu could try to replicate them reasonably well.

"Don’t mention it, the braised pork at our school cafeteria is exceptional," Lu Youxi said with a smile. "It seems like they fry it first before braising. The meat is incredibly fragrant, and even the fatty bits lose most of their oil, making them much less greasy."

"I’ll work on that," Liu Yushu said with a smile.

"Mom, I’ve been away from home for just over a month, but it feels like it’s been ages since I last had your cooking," Lu Youxi admitted as she ate. "I’m not exaggerating, what you cook is even tastier than at small restaurants."

Hearing this, Liu Yushu was thrilled and felt even more motivated.

She resolved to earn more money. Even if it meant hardships and fatigue, it was key to be able to cook Lu Youxi more delectable meals.

The food prices in the Imperial Capital were really high, with vegetables and meat costing much more than in Hetai Town.

After dinner that night, Liu Yushu didn’t let Zhou Shuyan and Lu Youxi do any chores; she and Lu Zhenguo did the cleaning.

It was unclear how Liu Yushu had been instructing Lu Zhenguo during the time Lu Youxi was away, but now he even took initiative without needing any prompt, voluntarily washing the dishes.

Liu Yushu didn’t even bother with pleasantries before leaving the kitchen.

"Mom, is dad always the one doing the dishes?" Lu Youxi whispered.

"Indeed," Liu Yushu replied softly, smiling. "Since we stopped living with your grandparents, your dad has really changed. When your grandparents were around, they constantly imposed their traditional male values on him. Things like ’men shouldn’t do housework or enter the kitchen.’ Even though your dad is nice, he couldn’t help being influenced."

"After your grandparents moved, your dad slowly started to change," Liu Yushu explained with a smile.

"How did you talk to him?" whispered Lu Youxi.

"Honestly, I didn’t say much; I just did a lot of tiring work around the house, and your dad noticed," Liu Yushu replied. "He naturally started taking over some of the chores he could manage."

Liu Yushu glanced at Zhou Shuyan. There were some things she found awkward to discuss in front of him, so she decided to wait until he was not around to talk more with Lu Youxi.

However, Zhou Shuyan took the initiative, "Actually, you can tell from Dad’s actions, when it comes to men, it’s not about being taught; it’s all about personal motivation to do chores or not."

Liu Yushu: "..."

Alright, this son-in-law had learned to jump into conversations now.

What he said was pretty much what she wanted to tell Lu Youxi.

"Mom, don’t worry, when I live with Youxi, I won’t have her do any chores," Zhou Shuyan thought to himself, planning to have housekeepers take care of everything when he and Lu Youxi lived together.

"It’s not exactly like that," Liu Yushu was of course happy but still politely added, "Sharing responsibilities is best."

"No way, not even sharing," said Zhou Shuyan. "I definitely can’t let Youxi do any work at all."

Lu Zhenguo, who had just finished washing the dishes, happened to walk in as Zhou Shuyan said this.

Lu Zhenguo: "..."

Are you pointing at me, kid?

Lu Zhenguo couldn’t help but wonder if maybe Liu Yushu had been doing a bit too many chores.

What else could he do now?

He was the one taking care of the cleaning and dishwashing at home.

Since his cooking really wasn’t very good, Liu Yushu didn’t let him cook anymore.

As for doing laundry, Liu Yushu used to handle it.

But now with a washing machine at home, there was no need for Liu Yushu to do it herself.

After some thought, Lu Zhenguo realized he probably didn’t have much else he could do.

That evening, under the watchful eyes of Liu Yushu and Lu Zhenguo, Zhou Shuyan and Lu Youxi returned to their room.

Liu Yushu had already tidied up Lu Youxi’s room.
