At the Lu Family home, a 24-hour caregiver had been hired previously, but Lu’s mother’s health had improved in recent months, and she no longer needed to be bedridden every day, so the caregiver returned to the hospital.

However, Lu Weixi had made arrangements with her in advance that if care was needed again in the future, they would pay extra for her services. Since there was only one patient at the Lu residence and they paid well for minimal tasks, she was certainly willing to accept.

Housework fell back on the shoulders of Lu Weixi and her mother. Lu Weixi was busy with work and would usually hire an Aunt from a domestic service to clean the house, but when it came to cooking, Lu’s mother preferred to do it herself. And Lu Weixi wouldn’t let her mother labor alone; she usually helped out as well. Lu’s mother was now calling her over to assist.

“Anything is fine,” Lu Weixi replied offhandedly, then turned to Qin Zhiyou and asked him to leave, “You go first, I will bring this up with Mom.”

“What if your mom doesn’t agree?”

Lu Weixi didn’t answer. In truth, considering Lu’s mother’s level of aversion to Qin Zhiyou, it was highly unlikely she would easily agree. Even if she did, it would weigh heavily on her mind, but Lu Weixi still needed to try.

“You go ahead, we can talk more about this tomorrow.” Lu Weixi pushed him toward the window. When Qin Zhiyou had entered, she had casually closed and locked the window; now, she had to unlock it to let him leave.

Qin Zhiyou didn’t want to leave without any sort of concrete news, even if he had to go, he at least wanted to cheat a bit of sweetness out of the situation.

“Do you have to go to work tomorrow? Do you need me to drive you?”

“I have my own car, and it’s not on your way.” She had a car, so why would she need him to drive her? Besides, Qin Zhiyou driving her would not only inconvenience him but also increase the risk of him being discovered by her mother.

“There’s no such thing as ‘not on the way’; it’s very much on the way. And now that you have a child, you need to pay more attention to your diet.”

“I will take care of that myself, and just because I have a child doesn’t mean I can’t take care of myself. I still need to work.” Lu Weixi took out her keys, ready to unlock the door, “Go ahead.”

But Qin Zhiyou caught her hand that was attempting to unlock the door, “I can leave, but you have to give me a little peace of mind first.”

“What peace of mind?” Lu Weixi was momentarily taken aback, then thought for a moment and added, “Since I left the hospital this time, I won’t give up on this child anymore. Whether my mom agrees or not, this conviction won’t change.”

She considered this to be the “peace of mind,” believing that as long as the child was there, reconciliation would just be a matter of time, unless Qin Zhiyou dared to stir any unpredictable trouble at this juncture.

“No, what I mean by peace of mind isn’t that.” Qin Zhiyou shook his head, then wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her close to him. One hand held her waist, and the other supported her head, both earnest and intimate. Lu Weixi was stunned at first, but soon his breath was close at hand, and in every inhalation, there was a familiar scent. Because of their months apart, they didn’t have the excessive familiarity of an old married couple, there was a bit of thrill and also a bit of comfort.

Lu Weixi’s hand holding the keys was still on the windowsill, when, unexpectedly, her mother knocked on the bedroom door, “Xixi, what are you doing?”
