My Goalkeeping System -
Chapter 546 - 546: No Technique
Just as Dave said, he had never really thought of any technique when shooting, the way he shot had been the same for as long as he could remember, just like most other people
Left foot stationary as his right foot was his strong foot, arms swaying back to facilitate movement and also add power.
It was just like everyone else, but Gregory did notice something different the moment Dave struck the ball.
Just before the goalkeeper hit the ball, his left foot would stretch back a little and twist downward.
The young striker just stood there and watched as the ball flew toward the post with a little bit of curve. It ended up hitting the crossbar right at the edge before falling off.
Seeing that, the youngster couldn't help but smile.
He was about to say something but stopped when he saw the goalkeeper drop another ball on the ground before taking two steps backwards.
This time, Dave sent the ball flying down the middle.
Unfortunately, his accuracy was a bit off as the ball ended up falling into the goalpost just before it could make contact with the crossbar.
'Here it comes.'
[ Quest failed ]
'What do I care?'
Catherine couldn't help but sigh in response to that remark.
"Your accuracy is way better than mine," Gregory commented from the side.
It looked like Dave was finally done giving him a demonstration, so he said what he wanted to say.
"Well, you still had a long way to go," Dave said with a smile.
<I could say the same to you>
Dave had insisted that he didn't have any specific shooting technique so Gregory didn't say anything more about that, but he did try to imitate the little changes he saw in Dave's movement before he kicked the ball.
It wasn't something that came to him naturally so it didn't really do much to improve his shooting accuracy.
_________ ________
The days went by and the team continued their training as they were getting ready for their match against Norlin FC on Sunday.
The Semi-final of the Bilbeth Super Cup was a very important place for Unique FC to be. So, any team that managed to make it this far in the tournament could not be considered small in Noman's eyes.
Norlin FC might be a second-division side, but the coach had absolutely no reason to underestimate them. Maybe they only succeeded in knocking out their quarter-final opponent because they foolishly underestimated them.
That said, the coach still had to consider the Europa Conference League and the league. Some players needed rest to be in good form for other games so there was no way he was going to use his full fighting force against Norlin FC.
This was what the coach was currently discussing with his players who were all sitting on the ground looking up at him.
It was a Saturday afternoon; the sky was quite cloudy and the wind a bit chilly, but for the players, this was a very nice condition for training.
According to Norman, he was going to start the match with the four-four-two formation and a few starting players were going to be rested on the bench.
For the two attackers, Gregory was going to be starting alongside Merino. Fred was on the bench and Fredinho was left out of the squad completely.
This version of four-four-two only required one attacking midfielder. The position was taken up by the player currently on loan, Henry Shaw.
He hasn't had much playing time for a while so Norman was giving him a chance.
The two central midfielders were Edward on the left and Frankie on the right, Martinez was naturally the defensive midfielder.
Mateo, Ferran and Minino were left on the bench.
The defence really didn't have that much change except for Jonas replacing Roland in the left-back position.
Dave was naturally the man in between the sticks. As long as he wasn't injured, Norman would make sure he was always there.
Anyone who saw the current lineup would think that Unique FC wasn't taking the match seriously.
Whether or not he was taking it seriously, the answer would be found on the pitch.
After listening to everything Norman had to say, Catherine had a few words to say to Dave.
<Looks like he wants to play a more defensive game>
'Why do you say that?'
<Look at the midfield. Other than Henry, the other midfielders are defence-oriented, I would expect him to go all out against a team like this>
'Putting it like that makes me feel like you're underestimating them. The midfielders might be defence-oriented, but that doesn't mean they can't attack. Besides, we haven't talked about tactics yet so no one knows what the coach really plans to do.'
<Fine, I'll wait until I hear what he plans to do>
"Mm." Dave smiled joyfully.
That was one of the few times that he had managed to win an argument against Catherine.

Dave returned home after training to find Emma in the living room.
She was sitting on the couch peeling an orange.
After walking in, Dave suddenly paused and stared at her quite intently.
What he found strange was the fact that there was a knife sitting on the table but she seemed to be insistent on using her hands despite the fact that she was struggling.
Emma clearly heard Dave walk in but because she was too focused on her battle with the orange, she didn't spare him any glance.
It was only after waiting for a while and not seeing him that she remembered to turn to the door.
The two made eye contact at that moment, and her expression seemed to be one of helplessness; she looked like she was about to cry. Dave felt his heart ache at that sight.
"Look at you, you're about to be defeated by an orange."
<I feel like the orange has already defeated her>
Dave made his way to her and took the orange from her.
He didn't use the knife but unlike Emma, getting the peel off the orange was much easier for him.
Emma just sat there and watched with admiration in her eyes.
Once he was done peeling the orange, he took out a piece.
She didn't even need to be told and just opened her mouth to receive the treat.
Dave placed the piece of orange there and she quickly closed her mouth to savour the flavour.
"It's a good thing you came just in time." She smiled.
"Or else you would have cried because of an orange." Dave teased as he reached out to caress her protruding stomach.
Emma ignored him and took another piece of orange to eat.
"Are you hungry?" Dave asked.
His wife's appetite had been off the charts since she got pregnant, she would sometimes wake him up at night to get her something to eat.
Well, it was just sometimes initially but it had been happening a lot recently.
As a result, she looked a bit fatter and rounder now. She had commented about it once, but Dave said she looked just fine.
"Yes." Emma responded to his question with a nod.
"I'll make you something then." He smiled at her before getting up on his feet to disappear into the kitchen.
