My five ghostly husbands
Chapter 146 Out of place

Chapter 146: Chapter 146 Out of place

Ruby’s sharp eyes scanned the crowd, noting the presence of several good-looking ghosts. However, she couldn’t help but think, They’re not as naturally handsome as my husbands. Unlike the polished appearance of these ghosts, many of whom wore makeup or accessories to enhance their looks, her husbands had an effortless charm. Their handsomeness was raw and real, not something achieved by powders or makeup.

As she continued walking, her attention was drawn to a loud, familiar voice. Sylvia.

Sylvia stood near a rock surrounded by few scattered items, her white sun hat perched atop her head, casting a shadow over her sharp features. Her face was twisted in frustration as she barked orders at a group of assistants.

"Why don’t you arrange the props I asked for?!" she yelled, her voice sharp enough to make a few assistants flinch. "I told you to prepare them yesterday! How am I supposed to shoot without the props?!"

Ruby smirked slightly, amused at the scene. Sylvia’s temper seems to be her brand, she thought, though she kept her expression neutral.

Her eyes moved to the set, where a large glass pavilion stood tall. The structure gleamed under the light, its clear surface reflecting the surroundings like a dream. Ruby instantly noticed its material resemblance to the floating cubes she had seen during the land car race.

Lyra and her friend exchanged a smug glance when they saw Ruby approaching. They could see her observing everything around the set with wide eyes, like she was seeing it all for the first time. To them, it was clear that Ruby was completely out of place.

Lyra couldn’t hide her smirk as she leaned toward her friend. "Look at her, acting like she knows what she’s doing," she whispered, her voice dripping with mockery. "I can’t wait to see her mess up. Sylvia will lose it, and she’ll be kicked out in no time."

Her friend giggled, whispering back, "I bet she’s just bluffing. What does she even know about editing or shooting scenes?"

Meanwhile, Sylvia’s sharp voice cut through the chatter. "Miss Ruby, you’re finally here," she said, trying to keep her temper in check. Her patience was already wearing thin from the chaotic morning.

Ruby nodded politely, walking up to her. "Director Sylvia," she greeted.

Sylvia’s eyes narrowed as she spoke, her tone brisk and impatient. "I don’t like wasting time, Miss Ruby. You said you could do this, so prove it. Everything is ready for the new scene we’re shooting today. Whatever you need to do, get it done fast! Ara, bring the script!"

A round-faced witch wearing a yellow robe hurried forward, holding out the script. Sylvia took it and handed it to Ruby with an expectant look.

"Make it quick," Sylvia added, her tone firm.

As Ruby scanned the script, Lyra whispered to her friend again, loud enough for others nearby to hear. "Does she even know how to read? Look at her pretending."

The actors standing nearby overheard Lyra’s comment and started laughing. They clearly thought the idea of Ruby handling the shoot was ridiculous.

One of them, a tall ghost with silver hair, sneered. "This is a joke, right? Director Sylvia is usually so strict. What’s she thinking, giving this to her?"

Another actor, a witch in a red robe, chuckled. "Exactly. What’s she going to do now? I bet it’ll be worse than what Lyra did."

Their laughter grew louder, and Lyra smirked, feeling satisfied. In her mind, Ruby was already failing, and it was only a matter of time before Director Sylvia would lose her temper and humiliate her.

Ruby, however, remained focused on the script in her hands, ignoring the whispers and laughter around her. Her eyes scanned the pages with sharp concentration, her mind already formulating a plan. They can laugh all they want, she thought. Let’s see who’s laughing when this is done.

Ruby had handled much bigger challenges in her past, where she managed large-scale projects and created immersive game environments. In those games, she mastered perspectives, camera angles, and scene settings, making this task feel relatively simple.

"I am ready," Ruby said, her tone calm and confident as she looked at Director Sylvia.

Sylvia nodded sharply, gesturing for the actors to step forward. The witches with cameras moved into position, adjusting their lenses and tripods. Ruby walked behind one of the witches operating a camera, her red eyes focused on the equipment.

The crew exchanged confused glances, their brows furrowed. A few whispered amongst themselves, but no one dared to voice their doubts out loud.

Ruby didn’t care. She wasn’t here to win their approval, she was here to work.

She watched the setup closely. The script might have called it sci-fi, but from what she’d seen so far, it felt more like fantasy. Sure, there were some futuristic elements like land racing and a more advanced ghost world, but it lacked the technological innovation and depth she associated with true sci-fi.

Still, it wasn’t her place to critique their vision.

Ruby’s focus was on the camera lenses. As she peered into one of the viewfinders, Director Sylvia stepped up beside her. Sylvia’s sharp voice rang out as she commanded the crew, "Positions! I need all of you ready to move on my call."

The actors shuffled into place, their postures stiff as they tried to follow Sylvia’s instructions. A soft breeze rustled through the set, stirring some of the props. Ruby noticed the actors looked unsure, likely sensing the tense atmosphere created by Sylvia’s no-nonsense demeanor.

Ruby adjusted her stance slightly, observing the angles of the cameras. She tilted her head, analyzing the scene through the lens.

"Your left angle needs to capture more of the background trees," Ruby said softly to one of the witches.

The witch glanced at her, startled, but adjusted the camera as instructed. Sylvia glanced at Ruby, her expression unreadable, but she didn’t object.

"Everyone in position!" Sylvia barked, her voice echoing across the set.

Ruby folded her arms, her sharp gaze fixed on the scene.
