My five ghostly husbands -
Chapter 137 Different
Chapter 137: Chapter 137 Different
"How was work today?" Julian asked as he casually took the lunch bag from Adrian’s hands.
"It’s fine," Adrian said, his voice calm but filed with exhaustion. Without another word, he headed straight to the washroom to freshen up.
By the time he returned to the dining table, Karl had already prepared his plate and set it neatly in front of him.
"Eat while it’s still hot," Karl said, nudging the plate closer.
Adrian sat down, quietly eating as the warmth from the food seemed to ease some of the tension in his shoulders.
Once he was done, Karl placed the small chocolate bar in front of him without a word.
Adrian raised a brow, his eyes flicking from Karl to the chocolate.
"Wife went to the market today and brought chocolate for us," Milo said excitedly before Adrian could ask. "She said whoever wrote the most words would get the biggest bar."
Milo pointed proudly to Julian, who was happily nibbling on his larger bar.
"Julian got the biggest, I’m second, and brother Karl..." Milo smirked, glancing at Karl. "Well, he wrote the most, but he copied from us, so he got the smallest one."
Adrian’s gaze shifted toward Karl, who sat quietly, arms crossed and a pout firmly on his lips.
"I didn’t copy everything..." Karl muttered under his breath, though even he didn’t sound convinced by his own defense.
Adrian listened without interrupting, his dark eyes softening as Milo continued explaining the whole ordeal like it was the most important story of the day.
By the time Milo finished, he leaned forward expectantly, waiting for Adrian’s reaction.
Adrian exhaled softly, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "Sounds fair to me."
Karl groaned, slumping back in his chair dramatically. "You’re supposed to take my side, Brother Adi."
"I’m on the side of justice," Adrian replied calmly, breaking off a small piece of his chocolate and popping it into his mouth.
Milo snickered, and Julian hid his smile as he watched Them on side.
"Don’t worry, Karl," Adrian added as he slid the rest of his chocolate bar toward him. "I don’t need much. You can have the rest."
Karl’s eyes widened, but he tried to play it cool. "Well... if you insist."
He grabbed the bar quickly before Adrian could change his mind.
Milo frowned, crossing his arms. "How come he gets more chocolate after cheating?"
Julian grinned, leaning back in his chair. "Because he’s the youngest in the house... by his brain."
Milo burst into laughter, nearly falling off his seat. "That’s true!"
Karl’s eyes narrowed as he shot up from his chair, pointing an accusing finger at Julian. "What do you mean I don’t have a brain!?"
Julian chuckled, raising his hands in defense. "When did I say that? I just said you’re young at heart."
Milo laughed even harder, clutching his stomach. "He totally meant you don’t have a brain!"
Karl’s face flushed as he crossed his arms. "I’ll have you know, I wrote the most words today. If I don’t have a brain, how did I do that?"
Julian smiled. "You copied those words, remember?"
"It still takes effort to copy!" Karl huffed.
Adrian, watching the entire scene unfold with amusement, shook his head.
Karl plopped back into his chair, pouting dramatically. "I don’t care what anyone says. I’m eating this chocolate, brain or not."
And Adrian suddenly fell in deep thought, Ruby was really changed, He was stil feeling suffocating inside.
Ruby, on the other hand, found herself becoming increasingly busy as she focused on designing robes. The time she had felt far too short, and the pressure of her growing to-do list left her feeling a little anxious.
She knew she didn’t have much time to spare, and the pressure was starting to build Since that festival was near.
It would take at least four or five days for her to receive the official confirmation letter.
Once that arrived, she would need to apply for a loan to officially launch her business. Afterward, she had to find and hire skilled workers who could bring her designs to life, sewing each robe with precision according to her instructions.
In her past life, Ruby had spent countless hours designing game characters and their outfit.
This experience made her feel confident – she knew she had the skills to create unique and beautiful designs. But she also understood that designing was only part of the work. She needed to find talented people who could bring her ideas to life. It was important to find those with sharp eyes, steady hands, and the ability to sew delicate and elegant pieces.
She knew that while she could create the designs, the real success would come from building a team that could turn her ideas into something special, step by step.
Even if Ruby started everything on her own, she knew she wouldn’t get far fast enough. The workload was too heavy for one person.
No matter how skilled she was at designing, sewing large batches of robes in time for the Diamond Moon Festival wasn’t realistic. The process, from cutting fabric to stitching, adding embroidery, and final touches, was exhausting and time-consuming.
Rather than burning herself out, she decided it was time to build a team.
She needed people who could understand her vision and execute it precisely. Once they learned her methods and grasped the designs, her workload would ease. With the right hands, she could double or even triple production.
That thought brought her a sense of calm.
Ruby flipped open her notebook again, jotting down the key things she needed:
1. Two or three skilled seamstresses/tailors – People who knew how to handle delicate fabrics and follow intricate patterns.
2. An apprentice or assistant – Someone younger who could learn and help with smaller tasks, cutting fabric, or organizing materials.
3. A supplier connection – Someone reliable for beads, threads, and fabrics at reasonable prices. (Ethan)
She tapped the page with her pencil thoughtfully.
🪄
It was midnight. The house was silent, the faint creaks of wood settling under the cool air the only sound.
While everyone else was asleep, Adrian lay awake.
He sat up on the edge of his bed, running a hand through his dark hair, his eyes fixed on his open palms. Guilt pressed down on his chest, sinking deeper with each breath.
After a long moment, Adrian exhaled quietly and stood, his footsteps light against the wooden floor. He walked toward the wardrobe, opening it carefully. His hand slipped inside, searching until his fingers brushed against the familiar stack of gems.
The money he had stolen from Ruby.
His grip tightened around it as he pulled it out, staring at it for a long time.
Without a sound, Adrian stepped out of his room and into the hallway. The house felt colder at night. Shadows stretched across the walls, but Adrian barely noticed them as he moved toward Ruby’s room.
The door was slightly ajar.
Adrian hesitated for a moment but gently nudged the door open.
She was curled up on the bed, her hair spilling over the pillow, a notebook clutched loosely in her hand.
She had fallen asleep mid-work on her designs.
Stepping carefully, Adrian approached her table and placed the stack of gem down. The small clink of metal against wood echoed in the stillness, but Ruby didn’t stir.
As Adrian stood there, his gaze lingered on Ruby’s face longer than he expected.
The soft lights from the hallway cast a warm glow over her face, highlighting the gentle curve of her cheek and the faint rise and fall of her chest as she slept peacefully.
Her lashes rested delicately against her skin, long and fluttering slightly with each breath. Her lips, naturally pink, seemed even more lush in the dim light.
She looked different.
Not in a way that was obvious, but subtle—like something had changed.
His chest tightened with an unfamiliar feeling.
He had known Ruby for two years now, but somehow, standing there in the quiet stillness of the night, it felt like he was seeing her for the first time.
When did she start to look so beautiful?
Adrian’s fingers twitched at his side as if wanting to brush the stray strand of hair that had fallen across her face, but he quickly curled them into a fist, forcing himself to step back.
"Don’t be stupid," he muttered under his breath, shaking his head lightly.
He tore his gaze away from her, silently cursing the odd warmth that spread through him.
With one last glance at the notebook she held close to her chest, Adrian turned on his heel and headed toward the door.
He hesitated at the door, his hand hovering over the handle.
But no matter how much he tried to walk away, his gaze kept drifting back to her.
A soft sigh escaped his lips as he turned back, stepping quietly toward the bed.
Carefully, he leaned down, his fingers brushing against hers as he gently slid the notebook and pencil out of her grasp. She stirred slightly but didn’t wake, her breathing steady and calm.
He placed the notebook on the table beside her bed, his movements slow and carefull.
As he straightened, his eyes flickered to her face once more.
