My Favorite Game Followed Me! -
Chapter 460
A couple of hours later, everyone in the merchant caravan woke up. Anton and Anna joined the Rimande’s family for breakfast, and after a few minutes of waiting for the packing to complete, they were on the road to the kingdom of Ormunda.
Rimande informed them that they would arrive in Ormunda a couple of hours after noon. During that time, Anna was relentless in her pursuit of power, not stopping practicing her memorization to the amazement of Oscar, the rank five wizard brother-in-law of Rimande.
“It's true what they say. There's no such thing as pure genius. I can see your sister working hard, even though she was supposedly a genius. I don’t think I can put my focus on doing my memorization like her.”
Anton just smiled at the mage and then started questioning him and Rimande again regarding information about the kingdom. Rimande and Oscar just sighed and started answering all of his questions, which was still just common knowledge that one could learn on any street in the kingdom.
When Rimande or Oscar diverted the questioning towards Rendindura, Anton simply didn’t answer them, and forcefully returned to knowledge about Ormunda. When Oscar kept returning to topics about Anton and Anna’s previous continent and even the destruction of the ship Amelia, Anton simply asked the mage to stop.
“Our emotions toward our previous homeland and our previous ship are still raw. Both of us are in deep grief because we lost all the people who were with us trying to escape the undead, so please forgive me if I don’t want to reopen my wounds regarding that topic.”
Oscar had the grace to look embarrassed, and Isolde glared at his brother. That awkward topic didn’t make Anton stop asking for information about the kingdom, and because of that, he truly learned a lot.
Anton didn’t know if Anna was listening, but she never stopped looking at her grimoire. When noon arrived, they didn’t stop to eat and just soldiered on. Anton and Anna were used to not eating during noon, but Donald, Rimande’s son, and his sister were beginning to become antsy due to hunger.
“You both just have to wait since we’re arriving at the kingdom soon!” Isolde scolded her children.
The gates of the kingdom had a long queue, but the movement was extremely fast, so those in the queue would just have to wait, at most, five minutes before it was their turn. Since Rimande was a known merchant, he also handled Anton and Anna’s entrance tax, which wasn’t that big.
Once they were inside the kingdom of Ormunda, Anton and Anna couldn’t help but act as rubes from the countryside. The sights within the kingdom were truly magical. It was one of the instances that Anton could say that he truly did transmigrate into a magical world.
Zalnothel was a small town compared to Ormunda. The buildings alone rivaled any modern city that Anton had seen on Earth. The main difference was, the buildings on Earth conform to the architectural building standard, looking almost the same in the distance, but the buildings in Ormunda were so different and unique to each other that one could almost believe that their architecture designer was under hallucinogenic drugs when they made the designs.
There were buildings that looked like crystals growing from inside a magical cave. Some buildings looked like corals from deep within the sea. Some looked like flowing water that was somehow frozen in time, and much, much more. The buildings alone would inspire artists, wherever they came from, and for a moment, Anton and Anna returned to a time when they were innocent little children, listening to magical tales of kingdoms ruled by magical princes and princesses. There was even a castle that looked like the Disney Cinderella castle, and Anton pointed it out to Anna, which made Anna gasp in wonder. The fact was, they had not even seen the whole kingdom. Just a tiny part of it, and that tiny part was enough to overwhelm both of them.
Rimande and Oscar looked at them with indulgent smiles on their faces, but with no mockery. Any guests who arrived in the kingdom, however they declared that they were jaded when it came to powerful kingdoms and cities, would have the same reaction as Anton and Anna.
Even those who lived in the kingdom, like themselves, gave themselves a moment to appreciate how truly magical their kingdom was.
Anton knew that it would take weeks, probably months, for him to become a little familiar with Ormunda. Their sibling's first goal was to find a magical academy that Anna would enroll in, and because of how relentless Anton was in gathering information about the kingdom from Rimande and Oscar, Anton and Anna had already decided which Academy they would try their hands at.
The school they had decided on was called the Magical Academy of Evocation Wizards. According to Oscar, the school was mostly focused on battle spells and battle mages. Not only that, the school didn’t discriminate in accepting any students, whether they were nobles, commoners, came from a wizard's family, or the student was the only wizard talent in the family.
That meant that Anna probably wouldn’t encounter any form of bullying. Not only that, but scholarships were available as long as the student in question deserved it.
The problem was, the magic school in question was a couple of hours away from where they were. Thankfully, Oscar offered to guide them, and in return, Anton would give him one of the enchanted items that he created, and any one would do.
Anton knew that Oscar’s main purpose in acquiring several repeat items was, he probably planned to reverse engineer them, causing the items to be destroyed. His only opinion on that was that more power to those who wanted to try. His items were geared towards easing the life of users, and based on a casual inspection of the surroundings, those kinds of items were very common in Ormunda.
Oscar hired a carriage that was being pulled by some sort of huge lizard. During the travel to the Magical Academy of Evocation Wizards, Anton and Anna’s faces were glued to the carriage windows. Anton saw that anyone who noticed them gaping at the wonders of the kingdom of Ormunda only had indulgent smiles on their faces, and he became aware that a lot of people were sporting the same faces as them, eyes open wide and with mouths open.
Whenever they passed something interesting like a magical shop that sold unique things or a shop that sold spell books, Anton and he thought his sister, as well, had the urge to stop the carriage to peruse the items being sold, but due to the lateness of the hour, they decided to let them be and would just come back another time.
They reached the academy at around six in the evening.
“Is it not too late already?” Anton asked Oscar.
“Not really. I’m quite sure that your sister will be accommodated by the school,” Oscar answered.
They arrived at such a huge establishment that the only thing Anton and Anna could do was gape at the towering edifice. Especially when Oscar told them the building that they were looking at was only one of the buildings of the academy. The design of the first building alone was so reminiscent of an old school castle that it brought to mind the most famous wizarding school from the most famous wizarding novels back on Earth, that for a moment, Anton had the desire to enroll in the school.
Unfortunately, the draw of the dungeons was still mightier, and he had already promised himself that he would focus on his Diablo II system before attending to the standard magic of this world.
