Chapter 292 - Chapter 292 292 Thats not the same thing
Chapter 292: 292 That’s not the same thing Chapter 292: 292 That’s not the same thing Luo Xiyun noticed Chen Xu’s gaze and her face turned slightly red. She stumbled over her words, “You… don’t look at me like that, even… even though we’ve broken up, but still, we’re friends…”
“Right, friends,” Chen Xu said with a hint of a smile.
That smile made Luo Xiyun feel a bit uncomfortable.
“Pass me the vegetables,” Chen Xu had already turned on the stove. She quickly handed over the vegetable basket.
As the vegetables hit the pan, there was a sizzling sound.
Luo Xiyun watched his profile, saw sweat trickle down his forehead, and pulled out a tissue to help wipe it away.
“Thank you,” Chen Xu turned and gave her a beaming smile.
“…You’re welcome.”
The dish was quickly ready, and after serving it, they sat down at a table laid out with a variety of dishes.
“Why did you make so many dishes?” Luo Xiyun had wanted to ask earlier. Usually, there were just three dishes and a soup, but today there were several more.
Chen Xu crossed his arms and said, “Today is a special day; it’s the sixth anniversary of my entrance into this dream world. It’s worth celebrating.” After saying this, he snapped his fingers.
A robot carrying a bottle of red wine came in from the outside.
Luo Xiyun looked at it curiously, having never seen a robot here before. She noticed this one seemed different from those she had seen before.
The robot approached the table, placed the red wine on it, then stepped back and performed a gentlemanly bow to Luo Xiyun. As it stood up, a rose suddenly appeared in its hand.
“Thank you,” Luo Xiyun said with a smile as she took the flower.
The robot then made its exit.
She waved to it, “Goodbye.”
“Its hardware isn’t sufficient to add a language module, so it can’t speak,” Chen Xu explained from the side.
Luo Xiyun was a little surprised, “Did you make this yourself?”
The robot’s movements were smooth and natural, particularly when it set down the wine, which required extremely delicate control, not just any commonplace technology.
“Mm, I built it to the level of current real-world chip capabilities. That’s about as far as it could go,” Chen Xu said while opening the wine and pouring two glasses.
“Here,” he lifted one of the glasses.
Luo Xiyun picked up her own glass, clinked it gently with his, took a small sip, and then set it back down.
“Come, try this.”
Chen Xu picked up a piece of pork and placed it in her bowl, “In these two years you’ve been away, I have been studying recipes in my spare time. This Dongpo pork is something I learned to make during this time. To learn it, I even built a pig farm at the base…”
Most of the time at the dinner table was filled with Chen Xu talking and Luo Xiyun listening. She occasionally interjected, her eyes never straying from him.
Compared to yesterday, Chen Xu was much more talkative, and his entire demeanor seemed different.
This was a welcome change.
What worried her most was the possibility of Chen Xu closing off his heart in such an environment.
That version of him frightened her.
What caused such a change in him in just one day, she had her guesses.
If there was one major difference between this visit to the dream world and the previous ones, it was her less icy attitude toward Chen Xu.
Was it her concern that had allowed his closed heart to reopen?
Luo Xiyun looked into his eyes. They held a warmth she recognized.
Before she knew it, she had drunk quite a lot of the red wine. Chen Xu had mentioned that he brewed it himself. It wasn’t strong and had a unique flavor–perhaps due to being grown on this alien planet.
At some point, music began to fill the living room. It was a violin piece, its melodious and lively tune lifting the spirits.
Chen Xu put down his chopsticks, stood up, and approached her, extending his hand, “May I have this dance?”
Luo Xiyun’s hesitation lasted only a second before she placed her hand in his, letting him pull her to her feet. A firm grip on her waist, and she was swept into the dance, moving involuntarily with his steps.
Chen Xu had never danced with her before because he had never learned.
At this moment, she didn’t want to know who he had learned from. She simply focused on his eyes, enjoying the intoxicating blur of the moment…
…
The next day, Luo Xiyun woke up feeling a bit heavy-headed. She had a low tolerance for alcohol, and the few glasses of red wine she had the night before had surpassed her usual limit.
She was alone in the bed, her clothes intact.
She couldn’t remember how she had returned to her room last night, only the dancing, and later, Chen Xu kissing her.
Then, she pushed him away.
She sat up, looked at the tightly closed door, as if trying to see through it to Chen Xu on the outside–at this time, he was surely making breakfast in the kitchen.
“That bastard…”
She took a deep breath, suppressing those thoughts that shouldn’t have been there.
Closing her eyes for a good while, she opened them again, her mood somewhat calmer, then got out of bed and walked into the bathroom.
After freshening up, she changed her clothes before opening the door and stepping out.
Chen Xu was nowhere in sight, but the table was set with breakfast, still steaming.
The scene gave her a sense of familiarity.
“Angry?”
She sat down at the table with this thought in her mind and felt a touch of delight.
The familiar Chen Xu seemed to have returned.
Since entering this dream, aside from the first few days, they had always had breakfast together. Now, with only herself, it felt somewhat unusual.
After eating breakfast and washing the dishes, she went outside.
She didn’t head to the study room, but to the adjacent control center. It was her first time there, and as she approached the door with a sign hanging above it wondering how to get in, it automatically opened.
Chen Xu wasn’t inside, only two bio-engineered attendants.
“Madam.” They stood and saluted upon seeing her.
Luo Xiyun found the address a bit jarring. Still, she didn’t correct them. Chen Xu had said they were like robots, understanding only to complete tasks, and that it probably wouldn’t matter if she told them otherwise.
She asked, “Where is Chen Xu now?”
One of them answered, “Mr. Chen is in the plantation area.”
The title “Mr. Chen” felt dissonant to Luo Xiyun. She asked, “How do I get there?”
“Take the train, input your destination, and it will take you where you want to go.”
“Thank you.” Luo Xiyun turned and left.
Exiting the control center, she found an entrance to the train. She’d ridden this when she’d followed Chen Xu to the baby care center before.
Once on the train, she stated her destination, and two minutes later, she arrived.
Stepping through a door, she came upon a green expanse of plants, her spirits instantly lifted.
“Living amongst the steel jungle, coming back to nature feels completely different, doesn’t it?” Chen Xu’s voice came from not too far away.
She turned to see him, ten meters away, bent over in a lettuce patch, cutting a head of lettuce and placing it in a basket beside him.
She walked over, looked at the large vegetable field with all sorts of leafy vegetables and melons, and asked, “Did you grow all these vegetables yourself?”
“Fully automated farming, I don’t have to lift a finger, just come here to pick occasionally.” Chen Xu put away the knife in his hand and pointed in another direction, saying, “Over there is the livestock area. We have pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese–you name it. Whatever you want to eat, you can find it there.”
Luo Xiyun said somewhat pensively, “Who knows when we’ll have technology like this in reality.”
“We will definitely achieve it in our lifetime,” said Chen Xu, picking up the basket of vegetables. “Do you want me to show you around?”
Luo Xiyun didn’t answer his question but instead asked, “What are you doing out here so early in the morning?”
Chen Xu replied, “I felt a bit uneasy, came out to clear my mind.”
“Don’t forget what you promised me. You shouldn’t have done that.”
Chen Xu looked at her and said, “You promised to never leave me your whole life. Did you keep that promise?”
“That’s not the same thing at all.”
“In my eyes, it’s exactly the same.”
