Chapter 265 - Chapter 265 265 Landing

Chapter 265: 265 Landing Chapter 265: 265 Landing “Yang Jinxia?”

Liu Yumeng found it hard to believe when she heard this name and wanted to confirm she hadn’t misheard, “Is it the one from Jinxiu Investment Group?”

Luo Xiyun was somewhat surprised, as Yang Jinxia was always low-key and not many people knew her name. It was unexpected that Liu Yumeng had heard of her. Nevertheless, she didn’t dwell on it and said, “Yes, it’s her.”

“How… could… that… be?”

Liu Yumeng was somewhat tongue-tied, trembling slightly due to the shock.

Since she knew about Jinxiu Investment Group, she was naturally aware of the company’s significance. In the industry, it was famously well-regarded; it was once calculated that the total value of the shares directly owned by Jinxiu Investment in several dozen listed companies exceeded one hundred billion.

That was just the tip of the iceberg, and therein lay countless indirectly-held shares whose exact quantity was unknown.

And Yang Jinxia, as the de facto controller of Jinxiu Investment, was undoubtedly a business tycoon who could rub shoulders with high-profile figures who frequently appeared in the news, able to engage with them in lively conversations.

Moreover, she was so young and beautiful, a modern society legend.

Having become aware of such a person in the world, Liu Yumeng developed a near-reverential admiration for her.

Now, however, she had learned from Luo Xiyun that her idol was romantically involved with that scumbag. She was struggling to accept it.

The two women remained silent, each lost in their own thoughts.

…..

“Preparing to enter the dream. This dream is not time-limited and will automatically end when your character dies. Note: All rewards in Star-level games must be obtained within the game; no points or rewards will be provided by the system.”

Chen Xu was slightly startled when he saw this prompt. Before he had time to think deeply, another prompt popped up, “Do you want to enter the game store to buy items?”

“Yes.”

He made his decision without hesitation. Game Coins were hard to come by, but this star-level game was crucial for him. It was time to use them.

He originally had three thousand Game Coins. After replaying two games, which cost him twenty, he was left with two thousand nine hundred eighty.

He spent a long time in the store, carefully selecting items, and spent a thousand Game Coins.

When he left the store, he was a bit pained to see one third of his hard-earned Game Coins spent, hoping it was worth it.

Then, his vision darkened, and when he opened his eyes again, he found himself in a scene reminiscent of a spaceship’s cabin.

“…We are the second batch of explorers on this planet…”

He heard a man’s voice and looked in that direction to see a man in a white protective suit speaking.

This time, the dream wasn’t a lonely journey for him alone.

Feeling slightly excited, he found the bearded man talking somewhat familiar.

Looking in other directions, besides himself, there were ten other people–men and women–sitting in their respective seats, attentively listening to the bearded man speak.

Suddenly, someone raised their hand and asked, “Lead, I heard the previous batch of explorers on this planet lost contact. Is that true?”

The bearded man paused and replied, “Yes, I think you should have heard the news. This mission carries certain risks. That’s why the company agreed, exceptionally, to let us bring these lethal weapons.”

In conclusion, he cautioned, “Everyone be careful, don’t fall here.”

Another person spoke, “I’ve heard this planet is quite special. Previously, the Exploration Task dispatched many unmanned explorers and robots, but as soon as they enter the atmosphere, they lose signal.”

The bearded man said, “If this planet weren’t so unusual and couldn’t be explored by conventional means, why would the company spend lots of money to hire us?”

Several people laughed, while more wore serious expressions.

Finally, the bearded man announced, “The landing craft will touch down soon, prepare yourselves.”

Following that, no one spoke, each silently making their preparations.

Through these dialogues, Chen Xu also roughly understood the background of the game. The game was named “Exploration Team,” and clearly, the main objective was exploring this mysterious planet.

A few simple exchanges had revealed the dangers of the planet–drones and robots lost contact as soon as they entered the atmosphere. Thus, sending an exploration team was indispensable.

Before them, another team had already lost contact, leaving their fate unknown.

He sorted out the context in his mind, feeling informed. Another thought struck him, “Jinxia and Jinxuan will definitely join me in the game. I wonder where they are now, hopefully not in some place tens of light-years away.”

He was somewhat plagued by the system’s cruel sense of humor. They weren’t playing by the usual rules; since they were his companions, why didn’t they arrange to act together instead of separating?

The problem was, unlike last time, their distances weren’t displayed. However, he assumed their distance wasn’t too far, most likely on the same planet.

“Starting deceleration, prepare for landing.”

Suddenly, an electronic voice rang out. Chen Xu felt a strong sense of gravity, and after ten seconds, that feeling disappeared.

“Landing successful.”

The electronic voice sounded again. The man with a goatee stood up and said, “Leave one person on the landing craft to keep watch, everyone else, come with me. Let’s clear the surroundings and prepare to establish the camp.” Pointing at Chen Xu, he said, “You stay behind, remember, keep an eye on things for us, and notify us immediately if there’s any anomaly.”

For some reason, Chen Xu had an ominous premonition, and before he could react, the man with the goatee had already left the cabin with others.

At this moment, screens around the cabin lit up, displaying views outside the spacecraft–every inch of the ground and the sky, not missing any blind spots.

“How’s the situation outside?”

The man with the goatee’s voice came through, though it was somewhat distorted.

Looking at the monitor, the area outside the landing craft was flat land covered with some low shrubs. Beyond that were some bare, large trees.

Since there were plants, there likely were animals too, possibly even intelligent beings.

Thinking this, he said, “No abnormalities.”

“Good.”

Following the goatee’s voice, a door opened, and a huge engineering vehicle drove out, followed by another, and in total, five vehicles.

Once the engineering vehicles started operating, they began leveling the ground, removing excess sand and gravel, and laying foundations…

Chen Xu wasn’t idle either; one screen continuously displayed prompts of data being received and analyzed. On another side, it indicated that the signal with the Explorer, a mothership currently stationed beyond the Solar System’s orbit, had been interrupted.

Looking towards the camera facing the sky, he saw thick white clouds and wondered if the signal interruption was related to these clouds.

As he pondered, suddenly, he saw a dense mass hurtling towards them.

Immediately after, an alarm went off.

“There’s a large number of unidentified objects approaching.” He promptly alerted the goatee and his group.

Soon after, the spacecraft emitted a warning, “The spacecraft has entered first-level combat readiness. Defensive system activated.”

The engineering vehicles outside stopped working and started moving towards the landing craft.

They hadn’t gone far when they suddenly stopped.

“What’s happening?” Chen Xu tried clearing up the situation, shouted a few times into the communicator, but received no response.

A warning appeared on the screen, “Signal interference detected, connection with engineering vehicles disrupted.”

Just then, the dark mass in the sky got closer and Chen Xu could see it clearly–they were a flock of black birds.

“Fire, eliminate them.”

In this situation, he decisively gave the order.

“Weapon system activated, ready, three, two, one, fire.”

Countless lasers shot out, piercing through the flock of black birds.

Yet, Chen Xu felt no joy in his heart; instead, his heart sank. Their numbers were too great.

Within just ten seconds, the flock had descended. Under the fire from the landing craft, their numbers were nearly halved. Those black birds had targeted the five engineering vehicles.

“Please, let there be no issues.”

His heart tightened, but at this time, he was helpless. The landing craft’s weapon system should have been powerful, but he hadn’t anticipated facing so many small, swift targets.

The engineering vehicles were also firing.

Minutes later, the gunfire over there gradually ceased.

Chen Xu’s heart sank further.
