Chapter 249 - Chapter 249 249 Guilty
Chapter 249: 249 Guilty Chapter 249: 249 Guilty A year later, looking back at the times spent with Luo Xiyun in the post-apocalyptic world, Chen Xu felt a unique sensation.
Seeing those corresponding scenes, he could still recall the feelings and thoughts he had at the time.
When he saw himself telling Luo Xiyun, “Let’s both mind our own business,” he found it particularly amusing. It made him wonder how their relationship might have unfolded if he had approached things differently.
He felt that, most likely, it wouldn’t have developed to this extent.
Next, were the scenes of them staying together in the villa.
To be honest, he never understood when exactly Luo Xiyun had started liking him. He was a bit slow in matters of the heart.
It was in a dream where he, unintentionally turning the bathroom glass transparent, saw her showering and she caught him; her reaction then made him think it through. He felt that she wasn’t against taking their relationship a step further. It was this realization that emboldened him to take decisive action, allowing their relationship to break through.
Logically, she must have developed feelings for him even earlier.
Now, as he watched the playback, he noticed things in her expressions and tone that he hadn’t before. Her attitude towards him had grown warmer and more dependent just days after moving to the villa, and he had been oblivious to it at the time.
He watched their everyday interactions–especially when Luo Xiyun subtly flirted with him–and he couldn’t help but smile knowingly.
Then, the day finally came when Luo Xiyun deleted all his romantic movies; furious, he purposely turned off the heater and moved into her room.
While she was bathing, she accidentally hit the switch turning the bathroom glass transparent.
Seeing this scene again still gave him a sudden thrilling feeling. He hadn’t planned anything at that moment, but the incident hit him hard.
Soon after, Luo Xiyun came out and immediately sensed that he had touched that switch. Her expression, a mix of embarrassment and annoyance, was particularly enticing.
Nothing happened that night.
The next day, he went out to look for supplies, planning to go further than usual. A blizzard struck, his car broke down, and he had to walk back. He fell and lost consciousness midway, and it was Luo Xiyun who came looking and rescued him.
After this incident, their relationship seemed to naturally progress.
At night, he crawled into Luo Xiyun’s bed…
The scene cut off, and it was already the next morning.
“What happened?”
He was bewildered; it was their first time together, and he wanted to relive it, but this was what it came to?
He replayed the previous night, hoping for a different outcome, but it skipped to the next day just as he got into the bed.
Is there no justice?
He was furious. This was his own experience, and it was all censored–why?
He fast-forwarded further; each time they clapped thunderously, the scene would jump right over–none were spared.
“Isn’t this video of me? Why censor it?” He grew angry and summoned the artificial intelligence.
Promptly, he received a response, “According to relevant laws, this device does not have the rights to record players’ private lives.”
Hearing this explanation, Chen Xu thought for a moment, and it seemed reasonable–since these videos were recorded without his knowledge and consent, recording them was indeed inappropriate.
“Well, at least those memories will always be in my head.”
He thought to himself and continued reading, skipping over large sections.
At the time, the weather had become increasingly extreme, as if the world was ending. They were both aware that death could come at any moment, so they seized every opportunity to be affectionate.
He decided to pull up to the last day, always curious what the dream world would become after his death, whether it would collapse immediately or continue for a while.
Soon, he saw the scene where Luo Xiyun took him to the mountain top to watch the rising sun.
At the time, he was in his final moments, uttering a few words before his head tilted and he died.
The dream did not disappear. He saw Luo Xiyun reach out to touch his carotid artery, then her face turned deathly pale, “…What good are you? I’m unhappy, and you can’t speak sweetly to comfort me. You don’t even let me have the better food. You leave things all over the place, I scold you, and you… argue with me. Sleeping… snoring…”
As she spoke, she had already leaned on his legs, weeping uncontrollably.
All these were things he had not known; Luo Xiyun had never mentioned them to him. Seeing her sorrowful state, he felt somewhat guilty and moved.
At the time, he had treated her like a copied virtual character, and his attitude was indeed a bit rough.
However, seeing her saddened by his death, deep down he was pleased; it meant that she did have feelings for him.
Watching Luo Xiyun lying on his legs for several minutes, and the dream world still not vanishing, he became curious again if this dream would continue indefinitely.
Then, Luo Xiyun in the scene stood up, pulled him up from the wheelchair, and strapped herself to him.
“What is she planning to do?”
Chen Xu watched her actions, puzzled, then saw her supporting herself on the wheelchair, laboriously standing on top of the railing, his heart suddenly tightened.
Beyond the railing was a cliff.
In his ears, he heard Luo Xiyun’s soft voice, “How could you leave me alone? You haven’t confessed your love to me, haven’t proposed, haven’t put a ring on my finger… yet want me to fall in love with you, what a jerk.”
After saying this, she closed her eyes and fell forward.
Chen Xu instinctively reached out to grab her but was helplessly unable to do anything but watch her plunge down the cliff with his body.
He was completely stunned.
…
The lights in the hospital room had been turned off. There was a faint light coming in through the window, not dark enough to be pitch black.
Chen Xu suddenly opened his eyes, gasping for air, sweating profusely.
Then, he controlled his breathing and looked toward Luo Xiyun, only able to faintly see an outline. Yet, the image of her jumping from the cliff kept appearing in his mind.
He had thought about what Luo Xiyun’s reaction would be in the dream after his own death. He had never imagined that she would die for him.
Standing on the railing, she showed no fear; her expression was calm from beginning to end, it wasn’t an impulsive decision.
And those two straps, deliberately taking him to such a place, clearly, she had planned this long ago.
His mind was a mess, as various thoughts surfaced.
He had originally thought that among the three women, Luo Xiyun’s feelings for him were the shallowest. But the scene he had just witnessed proved him wrong.
Hearing again the words she had said before jumping off the cliff, he felt terribly upset and muttered, “You’re right, I am truly despicable.”
