Chapter 212: 212 Background Chapter 212: 212 Background “I tricked you.”
Yang Jinxia suddenly chuckled, “You didn’t take it seriously, did you?”
Chen Xu looked at her, but didn’t feel any sense of relief. The way she talked about those things just now, it didn’t seem like she was joking at all.
Every time he thought about the possibility that one day, Yang Jinxia would show up with a child, claiming him to be the father, he felt a splitting headache. Luo Xiyun would definitely be unable to accept such a thing.
“You…” He wanted to say something, but when the words reached his lips, he didn’t know how to say them.
He knew very well, if Yang Jinxia really decided to do so, he had absolutely no way to stop her. A person like her, once she made a decision, couldn’t be swayed by words.
“Where were we?” Yang Jinxia seemed not to notice his grim expression and continued on her own, “Right, passing on the family line. Interestingly, there isn’t a drop of the Yang Family’s blood in me. You’re so bent on continuing the Yang lineage, but in the end, who can you really deceive? You can’t fool anyone.”
Chen Xu, although somewhat confused, picked up on the mocking tone in her voice, and a trace of doubt emerged within him. Her attitude towards her grandmother seemed a bit strange.
Thinking back to the uncomfortable feeling he had earlier, he began to speculate vaguely that her feelings towards her grandmother were not simple; it seemed that there was some resentment mixed in.
“From a young age, I only had you as a relative, and I did everything you told me to do. You told me to befriend Xiao Ya, so I tried hard to get close to her, to please her.”
Chen Xu noticed something off in her tone and looked towards her. He saw her expression somewhat distant as if lost in memories, so he didn’t interrupt her, just quietly listened.
“You had me marry into the Luo Family, and although their youngest son disgusted me, I still went through with it.”
“Later on, you wanted me to seduce Luo Zhenghai. I hadn’t even started acting on it when you fell ill.”
Chen Xu was somewhat surprised. Although he didn’t know who Xiao Ya was, he was aware of the Luo Family. It was shocking that the old woman had wanted Yang Jinxia to seduce her own husband’s brother.
And from her words, it seemed she really intended to follow her grandmother’s wishes. It just happened that the older woman fell ill before she could.
“I know, when you first married into the Yang Family, it was their most glorious era. Later, the Yangs fell into decline, and you were never content with that, always wanting to revive the Yang lineage. Unfortunately, the men of the Yang Family had short lives; your husband died, and your son died too, leaving only a few women behind. The older ones wanted to split the inheritance, and the younger ones wanted to remarry.”
“Watching the Yang Family on the verge of disintegration, and ending the family line, you finally couldn’t bear it anymore and thought of a method…”
Chen Xu could guess what method her grandmother had used. How could such things be kept secret from others? One could imagine what gossip she had to endure since she was a child.
Then, Yang Jinxia continued, “…but what you didn’t expect was that your daughter-in-law couldn’t accept such a thing, preferring death over submission. Afraid of causing a death, you had to abandon the idea. In the end, you took the matter into your own hands.”
Chen Xu’s mind exploded with shock upon hearing this. He thought he had misheard and just stared at her, dumbfounded.
“You went around telling everyone that child was your granddaughter, but there’s no such thing as a secret in this world. Did you know Xiao Ya even used this as a joke on me and shared it with her little boyfriend?”
“You never told me what the Yang Family was like back then. But I know that everything you did was to recreate your past glory. As long as it was achievable, you were willing to pay any price.”
“Even when you fell ill, what stayed on your mind was the business empire you had built your whole life. Am I right, my mother?”
Yang Jinxia’s tone was devoid of any fluctuations, very calm. For Chen Xu listening by her side, however, a chill seeped into his bones.
After a while, she suddenly turned to look at him and said, “Chen Xu, do you think I should be grateful to her, or should I resent her? She gave birth to me, but didn’t acknowledge me, and she used me as a tool to fulfill all her different purposes.”
Chen Xu didn’t answer; he hadn’t yet recovered from the shock of the revelation. He was also unsure how to judge their relationship.
……
Even after leaving the hospital, Chen Xu was still somewhat stunned. He thought a lot about the various encounters he had with Yang Jinxia since he met her.
He always found her mysterious and elusive. She was like that in his dreams, and even more so in reality. Some of her behaviors truly baffled him.
It was not until just now, having learned about her background, that he finally glimpsed the corner of her heart that she kept hidden away. He could at last understand that some of her seemingly absurd behaviors were driven by deep psychological reasons.
In the past, he was wary and even somewhat fearful of Yang Jinxia.
Now, he felt some sympathy for her. Growing up in such an environment, it was understandable that she would turn out the way she did. If blame were to be placed, it could only fall on her biological mother.
He drove to the company, and on the way, he kept thinking about her. The more he thought, the more unsettled he felt.
When he got back to the company, it wasn’t even noon yet. Secretary Jin greeted him as he entered, “Mr. Chen, you’re back.”
“Hmm,” Chen Xu walked into his office and sat down. He saw that she remained standing in the office and asked, “Is there something you need?”
Filled with curiosity, Secretary Jin asked, “Where did you go with Mr. Yang?”
He wondered, “You know her?”
“I accompanied my former boss on a visit to see her. I only met her once, but she left a deep impression.”
Hearing her say this, Chen Xu felt moved and asked, “Just how big is her company, really?”
“You don’t know?” Now it was Secretary Jin’s turn to be curious.
He honestly responded, “I don’t know much about it.”
Secretary Jin was dying to ask how he knew Yang Jinxia, but she held back and said, “Her Jinxiu Investment is one of the most powerful investment companies in the country. However, she keeps a low profile and never accepts interviews, so she doesn’t appear in the public eye, and not many people are aware of her company.”
“Jinxiu Investment isn’t a public company, and aside from her, no one knows how much assets it holds. Just the shares that have been disclosed are enough to make her one of the wealthiest people in the country, as they put Jinxiu Investment within the top ten shareholders of several internet giants.”
Chen Xu fell silent; he knew Yang Jinxia was rich, but he never imagined she could be that wealthy.
“So how does she compare to Mr. Luo of Tianluo Group?”
“That’s really hard to compare, since they’re in different industries. Besides, at their level, it’s hard to say who is more formidable than the other. If they were to clash, it’s likely neither could do much harm to the other.”
